  1. Rommi is a 400 dog so maybe we need to travel up, not that we would be a real danger to your placing or winning
  2. Kaffy I am feeling the same. I did want to use my boy at stud and the 12 month implant I thought would be okay for the time frame, now luckily my bitch had a longer cycle, but even then it will be close. Had I known I would have used the 6 month one and would have been covered for what needed to be and had plenty of time for it to wear off properly. You can get it surgically removed if required. I really thought Lewis hadn't changed much but he is eating better - as he was pre-implant - and his attitude to training is much much better and much more drivey and much more resiliant and he has stood up to Rommi on a couple of occassions, where as he didn't when he had the implant. He has also "thickened" up for want of a better term. His muscle seems harder and whilst not bulky he seems thicker, but not fatter. In a way I am thankful it is available as it would have meant desexing one permanently otherwise, but I still wish I had of gone the 6 month one-especially after getting that info. Within 3 months Lewis's testicles were around a third their size but didn't shrink after that time so I would think his will probably stay that size now. I hope my "diary" is helpful as I didn't really find much info about peoples experiences when I was looking. I know every dog is different and responds differently but I hope this may help someone
  3. Blimey they can move - Go the Dobe!!!!!!
  4. I think anyone can get their dogs hips scored, but if they need to be recorded or have the info used to register litters etc they need the info. The vet hospital I worked at sent xrays of a couple of unrego'd and crossbred dogs to be scored, my unrego'd Rottis elbow xrays were sent off as well - that was 14 or so more years ago though so not sure if that makes a difference??
  5. Seperate by a puppy pen. Also it would depend on the bitch. When my Dobe had a singleton puppy we were told wasn't there, she would take any dog who went within 12 feet of her whelping boxes head off. She was in a completely seperate room. Also had to keep her away from people she didn't know until the pup was older for the same reason. With Rommi as she is softer we will try the puppy pen in a room that is out of the way but leave the door open etc and see what she wants.
  6. Yep it has have seen some done myself.
  7. Hopefully he does get the dogs clipped now - poor things, and good on you for following it up.
  8. Okay my latest update. Lewis's implants's 12 months was up at the start of August. Now I thought that his fertility should return fairly quickly after that date (unless he was going to be one of the ones that didn't would be just my luck!!!) Anyway I was chatting with our vet about it who told me that after the implant has worn off there will be a period of around 60 days before the testosterone is at a level high enough to produce sperm, then another 60 days before that sperm is available and present in ejaculate. So essentially the 12 month implant will last a minimum of 16 months. So I emailed the company and this is the reply I got Now I may just be very blonde but to me if something is labelled as 12 months I would assume that they should be back to normal fairly close to that time. I have never been told at anytime that it will take a minimum of 16 months, and yes I read up their page and didn't see these figures. I googled and found some info from the European market which stated theese figures, hence why I emailed them. Now in my case I had to use this for a medical reason, but had I known this I would have only used the 6 month on as with the return to fertility times the 6 month one would have easily covered the time I was wanting to cover, where as the 12 month one last 16 months may be too long - we will see I guess. Anyway, at this point Lewis does have slightly larger testicles and is marking more and is not putting up with Rommi trying to push hima round so I am confident he has started producing testosterone I just hope he has viable sperm within the time we need it. Basically the 6 month implant will last at least 9 to 10 months, and the 12 month one will last at least 15 to 16months, when it comes to return to fertility - not necessarily testosterone production and behaviours associated with that. So something to keep in mind.
  9. How cool is that, the barking was a bit funny, it was like he just couldn't contain the excitement any longer What a clever lad
  10. I tried it on my Whippet bitch and it caused sloppy poo and flatulence which she did not have before, nor has after.
  11. Unfortunately OSO there is 1 clear bitch in the country. Oh well that paints a different picture................ Maybe collect him and you may be able to use the semen later to increase the gene pool.
  12. If he is a carrier and has many other things to offer then I would use him to DNA tested clear bitches only. I wouldn't say no I will not use him as he will not be affected and neither will his babies if the bitch is clear. You help expand the gene pool without producing affected dogs.
  13. I did on my Dobe but eventually went with a paracord one and prefered it.
  14. What has being a sighthound person got to do with it?
  15. Umm yes they are try looking here http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/community/jack-russell-terrier.asp
  16. I would take it up with the owner and the club first. If the owner and club do not implement measures to ensure it doesn't happene again I would let the other option be known. Make sure you have photos of your dogs wounds. What Aussielover has suggested sounds the right way to go to me. I have heard cases where a club hasn't dealt with it effectively and the same dog has done the same thing 3 times resulting in a dog that was that traumatised it could not retrieve a dumbell with another dog withing cooee. I recently had an incident - not wounds though - where I was in the middle of doing jumping training when a dog came out of nowhere, went passed two other dogs waiting for there turn and T-boned my dog at top speed. She sent him flying, winded him and he landed a good three feet from where he started. How he did not injure himself badly I really do not know. The owner of the dog was taken aside and spoken to, educated. In this incident her mother had turned upa nd she let the dog off lead (outside class and when the dog should not have been off lead, and it was known as not reliable off lead) to say hello to her mother. The dog ran in the opposite direction to line my dog up and take him out, when I grabbed him she then came back to try and stand over him (I was ont he ground with him) I sent her on her way. My dog is very soft and I was very worried about long term metal trauma but we seem to be okay although a friends dog whom he knows trotted towards him when we were out yesterday and he saw her and ducked very quickly out of her way when she wasn't going to go up to him. Good luck with your now very traumatised boy and I hope the owner and club handle the incident appropriately.
  17. OH my, that would be a bit scary. The thump when he went into the bookcase, he was a heavy muscley snake!!!! And yes very cranky!!! Thankfully, happily removed !
  18. They are all in the novice classes The poor dogs are handler impaired :D My thing is trying to get between the show ring and the sport classes and remembering to change my shoes so I don't slip over and remembering what number goes with who and what class - I learnt early take a pen and write it on the back!
  19. I do ponder if in this day and age where many are brought up as we are all winners, yadda yadda, whether or not some do not like it as it fosteres a competive streak in people. Many young people are brought up that having a winner or loser is bad, some I know personally cannot handle critisism. I took a young friend to a show, her bitch (only one of it's breed) won her class and got non awarded for the challenge. She took it personally got her bitch desexed within a fortnight and vowed never to go back as she did not handle her bitch being non-awarded at all. Many people who apparently know, have told us to teach our young-uns there is no such thing as failure (even our school systems have no fail anymore)so in an atmosphere such as the show ring where there are failures and there are dogs non-awarded maybe they just cannot handle the fact they have failed when they have not been taught to have resilience?
  20. Any sport can be bitchy, anything that involves passes or a winner can be bitchy. Go past those people and find the ones who are not. I know some wonderful people in showing, obedience and agility. I know some I wouldn't waste my breathe on as well.
  21. I too have had some fantastic help via DOL and Dxeion was also wonderful in trying to help me transporting a dog and her husband was willing to go out his way to pick her up. DOL is a wonderful thing when someone needs help
  22. Will find out, I have a feeling they may be South
