  1. Correct, work the clock face around the entry, get rid of luring ASAP. make sure you work entries with the dog on the right as much or more than the left, so it makes no difference to dog where you are. Sure Vickie will add to this soon, she's trialling this weekend.:D I won't have too many issues with one as he really clicks on quite quickly, but Rommi takes longer - due to my previous training - so I will have to remember to faze it out as quickly as possible. They can and do weave very well but sometimes they fluff the entry so I want to work on that.
  2. I cant see it being the same as a Phantom as we had the pups and she lost them ( reabsorbed at 42 days) This is just so odd, no breeders I have spoken to have seen or heard of the symptoms my bitch is having, very odd!! Do you thimk she may have a puppy there that was not picked up? My Dobe ended up with what I thought was a more full on phantom than normal as she had been mated. She had been xrayed and we were told no babies. She delivered one puppy at day 63 from her last mating.
  3. Okay that makes sense, however if I click as their head was in the gap they would pull out as a click is the end of the exercise. I do however use "good" as a "you are on the right track but keep going" type of command could I use that then treat instead??

My dogs also can and do do what they were originally bred for as well as being ANKC registered and they also compete in dogs ports.
  5. Make sure you get her undercoat out as much as possibly and shade, etc etc as suggested and she will acclimatise in time. Clipping them off can make them hotter as the skin hits straight on the skin and they can get very sunburnt, but also the undercoat is still there just as thick - if somewhat shorter so they can still get very hot. Grooming and making sure you get any dead undercoat out will be the best thing.
  6. You mentioned a dehydrated bone, I am guessing like a smoked one. I presuming they looked for a piece of this or fragments when the looked down his throat??? I recommend a second opinion ASAP
  7. I haven't as yet, only did the yard part this year and so far we haven't seen a huge amount of snakes (last year was our worst in 11 years) so thus far yes it is working, but I am still biding my time as I am sure when it is warmer more consistantly there will be more of them out and about.
  8. My Dobe bitch had shocking phantoms, labour the whole bit. She would collect soft toys, try and feed them and get very protective. As awful as it was I would let her collect her babies leave her a few hours then take the whole lot off her and once or twice even gave her a valium. By the next day she was over it. If I left the soft toys with her it would be weeks (only did that once).
  9. Idiagadog has awsome fencing. Photos have been put up before. It must be totally crushing to put as much effort time and money in as you have and still have a snake get in.
  10. No- mine are fine, but a friend had this issue with her girl to the point she almost ended up constipated. She changed back to her normal food and was fine. Mine are all fine on it, firm but not too hard.
  11. I support banding of tails. I have owned docked Rotti's and Dobes and while I would own a Rotti again with a a tail, I much prefer them without
  12. I have similar issues with Rommi in the figure 8. Her issue is she just LOVES sniffing new people and saying hello to anyone. When we train at our club she knows the people and sees them often so is no where near as distracted. When we go to a trial she controls the urge for a bit, but inevitably she goes across to my right as I am coming out of the figure of 8 as she has slowed down to have a sniff of the new person......it annoys the complete crap out of me and it is also why we struggle in SFE as she finds it soo hard to control her feelings of wanting to run up to the new person for a sniff and a pat. Quite often a very stearn stay works but not always!
  13. I fully understand feeling defeated. I had the same issue, 10 years and then I found a snake up in the roof of the dog runs......so I snake meshed to the roof, got the explanding foam out and attatched shade cloth around the bottom to stop the tiny baby snakes that may fit through the mesh as well. It is such a small area that I don't want them to go into and I make an effort to have no wood or junk piles anywhere and to have everywhere mowed and still we see them. I have told my husband if a snake gets in the dog yard after all the extra measures, I am moving to New Zealand.
  14. Yep they will, all Jenny's GSP have great temperments, upbringing and are gorgeous - yep I am possibly a little biased
  15. Jenny goes between Vic and Perth but I think she is going to Albany so should be over here at the moment I think. I have found that the boys tend to be a little more laid back than the girls - I am sure someone will tell me I am wrong though I also found the GSP's didn't have anything on my Dobes!! So maybe I am getting spoilt by Whippets for now but may need more of a challenge down the track. website - http://www.gsp.net.au/home.cfm They have a litter due around Jan 2012 Having said that my Whippets are very cruisy around the house but when I have them out and about they are hyped because I make them that way for training. Anyone seeing them only at training would think they are very full on, but when we are not training they are very cruisy. I have a friend that thinks they are very energetic dogs and finds it hard to believe they are only like that at training.
  16. How cool are mongeese - yep I think you are right SN :D Much braver than I that is for sure!
  17. Hmmm that weaver entry thing sounds like something I could use. Thanks for that will go and have a play So you use three poles, straight up as per what they would be for normal weaving and c/t as their head is level with the third pole. I am guessing because their is only the three, you then work on sending them from all angles?? Sorry for probably what is a dumb question but am wanting to get it right
  18. I haven't seen him in the flesh yet but I think Jenny is going to be in Albany - not sure though. She is trying to convince me I need a challenge again and I need one of his puppies ............not sure I need a challenge just yet!! Maybe when the kids are a bit bigger
  19. Wow the amount of Dobes has dropped off dramatically. Was just thinking I helped handle at a smaller show in Feb, 5 or 6 Dobes all bred by the one person. Last time I showed my Dobe bitch which was around 8 years ago there was 5+ per class on many occasions even at small country shows.
  20. Are you worried they may guts it down?
  21. Yep there are a couple in WA one lady owns 2 litter siblings, Hugo was the one that very nearly came home with me I want a liver with lots of bright white spotty spots just like Bailey had............one day
  22. I've heard they can be very clownish but make excellent companions. I'm getting a girl just so there are no plays for dominance with Rumor. I would love a white one with a black eye patch.. they just look so right! but beggars can't be choosers.. I'll be lucky if there are any girls at all in the litter. SO EXCITED! Thanks! In all my 20 years there has hardly been a time where I didn't own a GSP. He's a massive softie. He broke his leg as a puppy, was very timid and used to being indoors so the breeder (who we had owned GSPs from before) was waiting for the right family to come along and give him the life he needed. I had my heart set on a solid liver girl.. and ended up with a spotty boy! I couldn't speak highly enough about the breed. Are they Whippets in your signature? I've loved Whippets for a very long time and I was planning on getting one and somehow changed my mind to a MBT.. don't even know how, they're such opposites! I'll definitely own one in my lifetime though. Yep they are Whippets and a boofhead, love them, wonderful little dogs and quite a change from the Dobes I have had previously
  23. Where would you get a GSP from OSoSwift? We'll be ramping up our search for a puppy in a few weeks and any recommendations would be appreciated. We are definately getting one from the eastern states and have made a few enquiries - we just need to find the right one now and one which is having a litter with girls after we missed out earlier in the year! I know a few people who have both whippets and GSPs, they seem to go well together. I would get one from Jenny Cattell - Kobidan GSP's
  24. I have always wanted a GSP, have shown them occasionally for a friend. One in particular was my absolute love - just adored him. I very nearly came home with a puppy in my car from Perth once but at that point my income was lower and I really couldn't afford 3 big dogs. Broke my heart but I ahd to say no at that time. One day however I will have one......and another Rotti
