Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
OSoSwift replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We have been having a parvo outbreak around here which for the first time ever that anyone knows of is killing dogs that are vaccinated but are under 12 months of age. Mainly under 6 months. All of the puppies I have heard about ahve had their puppy vaccinations at the recommended ages and are past the time when full immunity should occur. they are varying breeds and cross breeds. All we can summise is that it is a slightly different strain. So far no dogs over the age of 12 months have contracted it, but there may be some I haven't heard about. -

Probably your department of Concervation office would be a good place to start. -
awww he was cute. My sons school has a resident Bluey. He wanders around the play ground and if he is sighted just before the kids are due out for a play or to go home they pick him up and put him in the garden up the back out of the way of trampling kids. He has been there for ages.

Just choose a name and go with it, He will learn a new name very quickly. My mum had a black cat called Sebastian. When he got castrated my brother picked him up and said aww poor cat is now dooverless. Well Sebastian got lost somewhere along the line and much to my mothers disgust Dooverless stuck until the day he died

Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?

I think Becks means they have to have had a vaccination within the previous 12 months. Standard for kennels. Okay, yep that makes sense, I guess if you boarded them once a year, then yes they would have to have yearly vaccinations. My vets do not like the concept of titre testing and my dog club will not accept a titre test so at this stage it is trienniel vaccines for us - took me long enough to get that one accepted by vets and dog club! -

By choice that is what I'd do, but if mine have to go to kennels then they have to be vaccinated within 12 months of their stay Most kennels accept titres now They have to be vaccinated within 12 months??? it only takes a few weeks to get immunity, would they not accept a dog who had it vaccination say 4 weeks before their stay??? If they didn't stay often they may only need to be vaccinated every few years at most -

OUr old dog ahs not been vaccinated since he was 8, he is now 14 and a half. The young dogs get puppy vacc's, then at 15 months get a 3 year vaccine -
I saw a photo on anothur forum of a crate that was built in and looked great. Basically they had a bay window and had a window seat built in with two crates underneath and a thick cushion on top for the dogs to sit on and look out the window

That is very awesome , I am sure you will post lots of photos so we can see stripey puppies :D

I have been told in the past they are cruel prisons and cages. My dogs happily go in them and it keeps them safe from other dogs/people etc. At dog club I train two dogs. There is no way I would leave one tied up and train the other one when I have seen many dogs hassled by dogs and people and even some dogs attacked and they couldn't get away. I have had people ask, I explain, if they don't like it tough. Mine choose to sleep in crates at night with the doors open, and fight to get into their crate when I put it up at dog club/shows etc. Having them crated means they can relax, if I am holding their lead they never truely relax. This weekend coming up our weekend is going to be very full on and getting through it with as much rest as possible will be hard enough. If they could not realx and have proper rest in their crate then I am sure they would never make it through.

I think it may only apply to other dog prefix's not horse or cat ones for example. Good luck and I hope you get it as your prefix

Hello yes it was I wasn't sure of exactly how well she had recovered though

BG - There ia a lot of posts and info regarding FCE on a Whippet forum I go on, I can find you some links if you would like. One girl had hers happen when pregnant and couldn't move any limbs. the babies are now around 12 to 16 weeks and while she has one front leg that is not really flash she is getting around quite well. She wobbles and has a funny gait but her progress is remarkable. There is a Kelpie on here that has had it and I also know of a GSP that has had it and is now recovered. The best of luck from us

Agility Training Talk Thread

For tunnels I either clap my hands or say go, go , go so not a command I use in obedience. I also use wait for the table instead of stay -
All bar one of our dogs have had theirs removed. I have never had any wrist injuries. I am tossing up about what to do with my future babies though..........

I know of a person who bought a puppy they received a letter when he was around 6 months of age saying that the breeder was having to change their prefix and if they returned his papers they would be issued a new certificate with the new prefix on it. The reasons stated were the same as yours.

Good to hear Cooper is recovering well. It does do your head in when you think you have done everything and they still get in. I can understand your frustration. -
I cant see it being the same as a Phantom as we had the pups and she lost them ( reabsorbed at 42 days) This is just so odd, no breeders I have spoken to have seen or heard of the symptoms my bitch is having, very odd!! Do you thimk she may have a puppy there that was not picked up? My Dobe ended up with what I thought was a more full on phantom than normal as she had been mated. She had been xrayed and we were told no babies. She delivered one puppy at day 63 from her last mating. OMG I hope not, she has no tummy and as I said has lost a lot of weight, if there was one in there it would be an awfully small ooohhh I dont even want to think, but I am confident there is nothing in there, but thanks for the advice, she was only acrrying four and had none at the last us to make sure all was ok. I hope not either But my bitch looked completely normal (waist wise) just had larger than normal mammary development compared to her phantoms. I was less than impressed to find a puppy at 5.30 in the morning!!! Hope your girl is okay and it all settles quickly for her.
