Bloody hell, listening to that is just horrifying. And to think people were locking their doors and refusing any help. Such a sad reflection on society. Those poor poor people and her partner - my heart tore...............

I am sorry but you are in the wrong. Do not allow your dog to approach other dogs, especially if they are on lead. I don't care how friendly your dog is or you think it is. Dogs are on lead for all sorts of reasons not just because they don't recall. My dogs recall very well but that does not mean I let them off to run at dogs parks or other off lead areas. I don't let my dogs off because I do not trust people with no idea to keep their dogs under control. How about entertaining this thought. Your dog runs up to say hello to a Maltese that is on lead. You think the owner is being neurotic and over protective. Now think about it from the owners point of view. What about if this particular dog has, in the past, been grabbed by a dog whom she was told was friendly. It very nearly died as it is very small and one decent munch can see a dead dog. It took much angst and money and a whole lotta luck and eventually the dog was fine physically. Mentally they have been working on it - with the help of a professional trainer for months. The dog is now beginning to improve but the owner is worried that the same thing may happen again as the last dog was friendly wasn't it????? The world does not revolve around those who think that just because their dog is friendly everyone else has to suck it up.

No way should you feel ashamed of Ollies scores. Geez some of the scores we have had well, we just prefer to forget them!! Rommi got pulled early at her last sanctioned trial as she had a small meltdown and really fluffed it. You are out there, doing it and getting passes and titles - be proud Just how many Whippets are there out there actually competeing??? You are doing really well, so don't think otherwise!

I would do it as formsd signed (fully filled out) and payment at time of service. Then it would be a case of sorting out if there are returns if the bitch does not fall pregnant, what constitues a litter etc etc. Ir ecently ahd to start looking at this when I was approached about my boy being used at stud so I am still forming ideas but I live a fair distance from our captial so I think it all needs to be done and signed then and there then everyone knows where they stand. I really hope you get it sorted, and the demands after the mating would really pee me off. Infact if someone got too contrary I would even consider aborting the litter rather then being held to ransom. I sincerely hope it never comes to that but people throwing their weight around really craps me off.

My cat is on BH and is still eating it happily. She doesn't get offered an alternative though.

We had club trials and Rommi got 197/200 in novice and Lewis got 178/200 after dropping after his finish and copping a sunstantial - never done that before so goodness knows what he is thinking!! Now just need Rommi to settle and do that when we travel

Baby Puppies In The Challenge Line Up
OSoSwift replied to Bullbreedlover's topic in General Dog Discussion
So you don't have a bitch challenge and a dog challenge? You only get points for Best of breed. So one set of points per breed per show? -
No it wasn't done, and the vet did say that it has the best effect done early but this particular dog would still gain benefits from having the surgery done at 12 months. These benefits would have been greater if it had of been done earlier.

Those poor people and dogs, that would have been terrifying for them. They are very lucky it stopped when it did. Idiot owner for having no bloody idea. Rottweilers are the loveliest dogs, so obedient and well behaved unless d*$kheads with no idea create a dog such as these.

O.M.G - I am completely horrified. Desexing a large breed pup at 22 weeks is doing nothing favourable in regard to growing out to their full potential. I am also horrified that these proceedures are being recommended with teh same amount of though as a vaccine or flea treatment. It is massive, invasive surgery. My SIL had a young dog with confirmed hip dysplasia at under 12 months. The procedure was recommended for her dog - and rightly so. It was explained that the younger it is done the better, but that her dog would still gain benefits from having the procedure done even at 12 months. 22 weeks - gobsmacked.

Would You Have 2 Male Dobermanns Together?
OSoSwift replied to Perry's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would say no - never!!!!!!! I know of one person who has successfully, but to be honest his dogs were extremely soft and not typical of the Dobe temperment. I have had to break up a serious Dobe fight (two bitches, one desexed) and luckily on the scheme of things it went well, no major gashes and no-one died. Now you may think I am being melodramatic but I have seen and heard of the result of Two Dobes fighting or deciding they hate each other and it is not pretty and can be fatal. I know one who was nicknamed Chainsaw, but only to other male Dobes. One they decided they intensly dislike each other that is it, they can never be together again. I would NEVER leave two Dobes of the same sex together when I was not home. Mine were always in seperate dog runs when I was at work. After "F" day (fight day) they could be together on lead and in the car muzzled and I carried a horse whip on the front seat just in case!!! If they were in the dog runs and they both walked through the door into the house at the same time I could hear them rumbling and roaring. Tell her to get a bitch, trust me it is very stressful the day they decide they will not get along any more. -
I hope Ari is much better soon, it is so hard when theya re sick, but even worse when you don't know why. As for the ET. I have done it with a Whippet and a Dobermann. There is absolutely no reason why a Labrador should not be able to do an ET. My Dobe was not particularly tall but weighed around 30kgs. She cruised it in, had no pad issues and her heart rate was low throughout the ET checks. Lewis cruised his in easily as well. Whippets have thinner pads than many breeds and he was fine. As long as you condition them correctly they will be fine. You do not need to do 12kms a day, didn't even need to do that with the Whippet!! We started at 2kms every second day with a 6km walk (as per normal) in between. We worked up to 8kms at 10 to 14kms every second day, then 2 days biking one day walking in the last 3 weeks. The dog needs to average around 11kms during the ET. They will tell you if you need to slow down/speed up as you go past the checkpoints or you can have a speedo on your bike. Lewis was fitter than the other dogs there and had consistantly lower heart rates than any other dog. There were mainly Shepherds and a Dobe. He had trained, he knew when he was next to the bike he did not pull, he slotted into his spot and cruised along as we had trained - he wouldn't even pull when he saw a Roo or rabbit when training, it involved lots of springing around instead . He went on a fixed collar, I would worry to much about a harness rubbing. They should not pull they should trot along on a loose lead. The 20kms is really not that hard on the human, if you put the km's in to train you will be fit enough - just get a gel seat or cover

Why Are So Many Cats And Dogs Being Pts In Pounds?
OSoSwift replied to Leema's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think subsidized desexing and education will go a long way to reducing the amount of animals that end up in shelters and pounds. -
Oh no how awful..............RIP any doggies that didn't make it. Hope they get found and severly dealt with!

I have the arnica pilules which I have used on the dogs for various speed + impact injuries and it has worked well. I have the Brauer ones available at pharmacies. I also have the ointment and as I can see where the bruising is I thought I may as well apply this topically as well if it causes no issues with being licked off. If I rub it in well it shoudl be okay. I also have been given some very useful links that I am reading as well - thank you
-
I use Arnica on myself all the time but have a Whippet with reasonable bruising on his front leg and chest/armpit. He has pink skin and a thin coat so it is fairly easy to see. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could Arnica ointment on it to help reduce the bruising/pain? I am worried it may be toxic if he tries to lick it off. He hit a wire fence at speed so even though he is no longer limping I am sure it must hurt!

Grand Champions & (new Title) Supreme Champions
OSoSwift replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
There are four shows within 600kms of me that have so far attracted 210 and 254 dogs..................... If I had the time which I don't, I sure wouldn't have the money for a petrol champion not to mention a dog of the same breed as mine goes to pretty much every show and interstate and does heaps of winning and has lots of BIS so trying to drive around to gain a title wouldn't work anyway. I did like the idea of 25 points after 12 months of age. -
Baby Puppies In The Challenge Line Up
OSoSwift replied to Bullbreedlover's topic in General Dog Discussion
No I don't think they should be. Having said that I have only even known our system and it seems to work to me. There is the possibilty of class in group and in show awards to be won by young puppies. -
hehehehehehe he looks very pleased with his bows Personally I never put bows on a male dog unless the person knew I would or asked for them. Oh well occassionally I did it as a joke with the odd person that would find it as amusing as I did......but anyway he is well groomed, and happy just take the bows off when you get to the car
