  1. What a disgrace. Thats a lot of money to make, that is made not what they have recieved to then have costs taken out. Blood money.
  2. Mine are all crate trained and sleep in open crates by choice. I know if I travel they are happy sleeping in them, fly easily and are not stressed if locked up for medical issues. Mine are not crated cery often now but the training was done as a pup so is there. Havibg worked in vet hospitals and seeing the stress and trauma caused by not crate training on dogs suddenly havibg to be confined I will always crate train mine
  3. My boy is completely back to normal. We had one healthy litter, haven't done any more matings but he is as he was before having the implant - thank goodness :)
  4. With mine I do the I am going to do, regardless. However IF they do do what I want, ie stand still I reward them. In the beginning it may well be food treats, but also and mostly a happy higher pitched, Goooddddd yes Goooooddd puppy, how clever etc etc. If they stop struggling for 2 seconds ont heir way to starting another a quick yes or good, if they are standing still longer then a drawn out goooooddd yyeesss etc. If mine REALLY play up I will growl at them, then as soon as they pause heaps of praise. I try to ignore behaviour I don't want and reward what I do, but sometimes they can be determined, so then I will growl.
  5. Yep just far more noticeable in some than others :)
  6. Well since this was on the news and the person stated it happened to them, I think the chances of it being bullshit are vastly reduced.
  7. I have seen a grossly overweight Pug shown and awarded, it was obviously obese. Thankfully there are some showing over here that are in the dog sport rings and kept nice and fit as well as showing. Haven't seen many Bassets
  8. Seriously get over it! the dog IS being desexed, he has a fantastic new home. End of story really! He was not with a rescue, there was his back story a while back. And even heard of a bit of humour?? nope, I thought not!
  9. Fantastic update. hehehehe Oh well, he won't remember shortly, he will be too busy lounging on his comfy bed and playing in his 1 acre of yard :)
  10. I compete agianst BC's and other working breeds. Sometimes I get passes, sometimes they do - generally them :) - but I am happy to compete as I do. MAny times I see ultra fast dogs pull rails or make mistakes so it evens out. If you want to miss a height range, get a dog in a different one. I have a 400 and two 500 dogs.
  11. Chunkers - in the fridge pet food section at the supermarket are cooked balls of meat, no high amounts of salt and easy to break up. If you get a big bag put it into smaller bags and freeze if you don't use them in around 3 days, they are not filled will preservatives so will go smelly after 3 days in the fridge.
  12. You should be able to feel the last couple of ribs with slight pressure. You shouldn't have to dig and you shouldn't have to bump your hands over all their ribs. Obviously this is easier in a non-coated breed. Their ribs should not have cm's or inches of cover over them, ie between the skin and the rib, the last two should feel like skin (couple of mm's) and then rib. Not sure if that makes sense. I have a boarding kennels. Many of the dogs I see are over weight a vast number obese. If I said to those owners your dogs are overweight they would swear blind that they are not. They are not obese and have the idea of a waist but their ribs are under a good cm or two or three of fat. Most dogs I get in I would drop weight off if they were mine, there are a few I work to get them to gain weight and some are just perfect. I often get people lament they cannot get their dog to gain weight when it is a perfectly healthy lean fit (often ADD type)dog who I think is perfect! In many cases their vet has even told them they need to gain weight! I have had dogs in obviously carrying extra weight that the vet has okayed and had vets dogs in who need to lose weight.
  13. I do, but I live on 2000 acres, don't have a fenced back yard, do have livestock and lots of snakes :)
  14. I agree there are too many overweight dogs in show rings. I also remember that thread
  15. More Qualies, a nail in he coffin of country competitors
  16. Why? Can't leave puppies inside as they are in full destructo mode atm. Can't leave them crated because they can't hold on for hours on end. Can't leave them outside because apparently that's bad, too. Rubbish. I have a purpose built dog yard and mine are in that when I am not around from 8 weeks of age and sleep out there a lot of the time.
  17. Sorry for your situation. You already have some very good advice. Do not take the puppy my uncle became ill with Lepto and he was extremely unwell. do not risk it
  18. These are the ones who shouldn't have the dog in the first place. True but as we see, they do...all the time!
  19. Good god, I had no idea and would never have thought of that. To awful
  20. I accept that occassionally things can go terribly wrong when looking after animals of any sort. But I honestly could not forgive myself if it happened to any I was entrusted to look after due to my negligence or lack of adequate supervision. That was someones companion and beloved family member.
