Toby, My 7Yr Old Lab Has Histiocytic Disease (Histiocytosis)
OSoSwift replied to labadore's topic in Palliative Care Forum
So very sorry to read that. You have done so much good for this boy. -
Mine always walk in collars. Generally martingales or limited slips. I would train a dog correctly in a check chain before I would walk it in a head halter or front attach harness.

Yep I have a dog here who at 5months post foster has become a foster failure. Some issues were apparent immediately but its only in the last month I would say I know her quirks well. That ad worries me also

Lots of dogs every day attend vet hospitals with muscle tendon and joint issues Sure but with no cause? I just wonder how many can be attributed to harnesses. You are probably never going to know. I just get frustrated when people use such things and don't put the effort into training them. I would put the effort into training asap rather than risk injury from using a front attach harness - or head halter. My dogs see roo nearly every time we walk. They are super dooper exciting as are rabbits. They jump up and down on the spot, squeak and yell but still dont hit the end of their leads.

I use food rewards in training but they know when we are training. We eat our dinner or whatever and they are on their beds asleep

That photo says it all -
She specifically stipulates the no pull harness. There are harnesses that don't cause an issue due to fit/design. I don't use harnesses but Sibes etc pull into appropriate harnesses and couldn't do it for the distances they do if their gait was impeded. This is in relation to front attach no pull harnesses and in my mine any harness that goes straight across the front of the chest. Y front type harnesses would be much less of an issue

Nope no issues here. If they begged or drooled they would be put outside. there is no begging. My kids can eat in the backseat of the car with a dog sitting between them and they won't even try and steal it. If they even look like sniffing they get growled at. They get what they get when I decide. I cannot stand begging

When in Sydney I saw a number of homeless people with dogs. The dogs were well fed and healthy. Just because you are homeless doesn't mean you cannot have a dog or look after it. I hope the pup is removed from these nutters and theyare charged with stealing

Locally to me, Tiger Snakes (black Snakes) strike first ask questions later and will stand up and strike before removing themselves. The dugites (brown snakes) will generally just escape as fast as possible and only arc up if they are cornered attacked. Give me a brown over a black any day. The Tigers flatten their heads at you and raise up to strike when you are metres away.

Getting Google maps locations etc changed is not as simple as it should be or you woudl think. From she would gets extremely frustrated!!! -

Singleton pups and the fact she was not with her mum from 6 weeks would be very big reasons why she is doing what she is doing. My singleton pup what a complete shocker. She had a hard as nails tempermant and any of the above had no effect in regard to reducing biting, them increased it. Re-direction and high value rewards for doing the right thing, ie touch nose to hands etc. They are an awesome little dog, but yes very tough little nuggets.

My then 12mo Whippet bitch worked beautifully to Novice trialing level at home, got to training eventually knowing it would drop back a bit. I think it took 6 weeks before she had all four feet on the ground!!!!! Keep taking her and keeping it calm :)

Best way with words. Hahaha. My desexed bitches are way more of a handful than my three entire males. Train them, use your common sense and think re risk assessment as you go about your daily lives. Nothing majorly different about owning entire animals unless your bitch is on heat of course.

I was going to ask if it was a prolapse. Sorry to hear that. Hope she is all okay now

1080 is an aweful way for an animal to die. If there are no other options and its a feral I don't like it but can deal with it. Feral cats are not real easy to shoot either. They are exceedingly cunning. We used to shoot feral cats but my dad did an extremely convincing cat call that got them very close so we got a humane clean shot. I am not sure what the answers are but we need to do something. In my area in the lare 1800 hundreds there was a massive rabbit plague. Some very (not) intellegent person came up with the idea of releasing cats into bushland to control the rabbits. Now we have lots of rabbits and a stupid amount of whiley feral cats that are freaking enormous!
