  1. So sorry to hear Ness. To be honest this is what worried me about having Rommi's leg done. The what if's. What if I got a dog who was worse after surgery, or had a complication or what if???? I really hope she comes good with increased muscle tome. Thinking of you.
  2. You have got to be kidding, hit on the head with a hammer??? If it needs that to stop it attacking it should be banned, and if not what the bloody hell was the owner thinking, hang on, what the bloody hell was the owner thinking full stop?
  3. Words fail me, RIP all you poor innocents souls. Burn in hell you arsehole that do this.
  4. Our old dog was on them monthly and if you forgot by a week you could tell. Made a huge difference to him. My Whippet is going to start them in a couple of weeks
  5. Yeh, I-squeak order, count me in:)
  6. Rommi slept really well, didn't hear a peep put of her all night - same can't be said for the bloody cat!!!! She ate a small amount of tea, then slept with her snugglesafe disk. This morning she was much brighter, went out to the toilet, came in had a small amount of lactose free milk and some soft food with more space cadet pills :) Gotta love Vetbed, had some over her blankets incase she pee'd as she was too sore to want to toilet when I took her out last night. She pee'd in her bed but the Vetbed was as dry as dry, with all the moisture going through to the blanket underneath. So even though she had pee'd I had a nice warm and dry puppy dog this morning. She isn't even thinking about touching it down as yet - the vet said she might - but considering how soft Whippets are I think she is handling it all very well. I think she is going to end up with some rather full on clipper rash though, she has little nicks out of some of the corners! It is hard with such fine skin, but she has a few nicks.
  7. Yep all went well and she is now home drugged off her face and snoozing in her crate. She has Metacam and Tramal on board so is seeing pink elephants I think! He said it went well, her joint looked good and her tendon was quite damaged and would of snapped in time. He also said she was the smallest dog he had done a TPLO on, her little bones look so fine on the xray :) He also said her skin was very fine and to make sure she did not annoy the sutures as there was such a fine layer over the plate. So fingers crossed all goes well and she is back to sound after her 8 weeks recovery etc. Then there will be no more going lame, being locked up etc etc. Will try to get some photos later
  8. Sounds like they got away with some of the charges, but still a good outcome. Interesting to read though, they can own animals they already have but not buy any more. Do they own any or where they all seized? I don't think they should be allowed to have any
  9. HOW many times have I heard that...and still hear that....amazing how some beleive a mutt litter will 'contaminate' a bitch...many beleive that the bitch will NEVER produce a pure litter after a mongrel mating. I know someone who desexed a bitch they had planned to breed from becasue she got mated by a mutt. Why? becasue she would never be able to have purebred litters. I said to them so if I have a baby to a person with dark skin, then have a baby to someone with pale skin you think the second baby will also have dark skin genes? They replied no as the child has a different father so they will have the genes for dark and light skin respectively. I said well the same for your bitch, she has puppies to one father, then when mated the next time she has puppies from that father. The sperm live for a short period of time there is no way the sperm from the first litter would be there, or viable 6 to 12 months down the track. Nope would not believe me, apparently I was a stupid and a young - then, was a few years ago- know it all who had no idea! Right!
  10. Was at a show with my friends, we were trialling as well. Had all our crates set up next to eac other, two Goldies, my two Whippets and my other friends Dark Brindle Stafford bitch. Person walks along "oh look there are two Whippets and their puppy". My friend kind of went pardon, and they pointed to her Stafford. She got the giggles that badly she could barely string two words together. Amazing - my Blue Brindle Parti colour Whippet along with my Fawn Brindle Whippet produced a Black Brindle Stafford - AMAZING :) At the same show. Are they Italian Greyhounds? No they are Whippets. Oh are you sure Um yes I am Arent they a bit big to be Whippets Ah no my bitch is actually on the lower end of the standard Are you sure they are Whippets? Yes I am (daughter) Mum I think she would know what her dogs were. Mutters as walking off, they are the biggest Whippets I ahve ever seen, I am sure they are Italian Greyhounds!!!! Me thinks they have their sizes mixed up! Same place, different show Now see these dogs here, you can feed them as much as you like and they never get fat. They are Whippets Ahh not exactly my bitch in particular is a pig and would get overweight if I let her. Oh I thought they never got fat They sure can if you over feed them, just like any dog. Oh okay may I pat them Yep sure no worries at all Patting of dogs walks off turns to kids and says, she doesn't know what she is talking about, I know you can feed them anything and they never get fat. Sigh!
  11. The only reason I don't like the idea is no-one is there overnight, which I think is from around 6pm to around 7-7.30am or thereabouts
  12. Thank you all it does make me feel much better. Rommi is also crate trained so no issues there. I also have 5m X 2m fully enclosed dog runs and I have a 12 by 8 yard attached to that so have slightly increasing areas easily available that she is more than happy to be in. Lewis is going to be the painful one!!!!!!! Bloody sooky lala he is. They want to keep her overnight tomorrow night which I am not overly happy about but we will see I guess. I will have a sooky whinger if they do!. I know she will hurt more initially but am hoping that this will fix it once and for all.
  13. Rommi is having TPLO surgery Friday. She has had lameness and injury to her leg on and off for a while and the diagnosis is a partially torn cruciate with very small joint changes. The recommended treatment is TPLO surgery. They have given a 98% predicted return to function and she should be fine with training and Agility. It has to be done as I have struggled for some weeks to get her sound and it just wasn't happening. To be honest it is scaring me a little. The idea of chopping the bone in her leg, taking out the wedge then plateing it all back together seems so drastic. I know why they do it, and I know why it has a better prognosis than the traditional methods of repairing the cruciate, but well...............yeah............. I have her recovery and time line etc sorted after speaking to the vet - which also will include regular check ups and adjustements as required. It just seems such a huge thing to do. How have other peoples dogs gone after this surgery? Just quietly I am crapping myself!
  14. My Dobe bitched mated days 20 and 21, only had one puppy though.
  15. A metric cup cooking measure, flat with the top was 125gms :D
  16. I hope Rommi goes as well as your guys seems to be going. Great to hear they are all going so well though after so much time and pain!
  17. I have measured it for someone else, I think from memory it was 120 or 125 gms
  18. And those are the very reason many Giant owners don't allow dogs to do it - Far to much risk of injury. I agree. I ahve much smaller dogs but 2 years ago my MIL was looking after them for a week. I aksed her to stop them playing too roughly, she didn't and I have had a dog with a back leg prone to injury. Next friday she will have a surgery called TPLO for a cruciate issue. I would let them do that either.
  19. She initially first hurt her leg around hmmm 2 years ago I think???? Then it was a good six months until she had another episode, but it has been getting more often and taking longer to get her sound again. Yes I do Ptolomy - thank god. I think I covered my premiums for a while! And as we are building the kennels and still have stuff to finish at home, finding the money would be difficult. Thank goodness I don't have to worry.
  20. Just make sure they are on and excellent diet. Their is some natural silica supplement for people that is supposed to improve hair and nails, but not sure if it makes any difference to the growth rate.
  21. Our update. Rommi is VERY sore now after having a short GA and xrays and of course they fiddled with her knee. Diagnosis is she has a partially torn cruciate with some joint laxity and a small amount of changes in the joint. Due to how I have dealt with it so far and the fact we are having more, longer and closer together episodes the recommendation is a TPLO. If she is left he thinks it will snap and potentially cause torn cartlidge and more arthritic changes etc. Rommi goes in on Friday 29th June for a TPLO. Then 6 weeks of rehab. I need someone with a heated pool to swim her!!! Shite!!!
  22. Just to add to the broken dogs, Rommi's leg that has given problems from time to time but always come good is definately not good she has been limp free for 3 weeks and tonight was bang - back onto three legs....off to the vets we go Bit of a background, she has had tendonitis of the tendon that goes from the Gracilus muscle to the bones. She now has a decent lump where the temdon attaches. Around 12 weeks ago she was running around and pulled up lame after laying down (after exercising in which she appeared fine) restriceted exercise, came good for a few weeks, then sore again, then better again, then sore again. This time she was confined to ehr dog run, on lead toilet stops tethered in the house to avoid jumping on lounges etc. 2 weeks of that - sound as. Last 4 days or so she has had access to the dog yard and her run (dog yard is grass and around 12m X 8m, all good, no lamness. Bring her in tonight, we have visitors so she was tethered again as she has been. was getting kids showered etc, came back 5 minutes later and she was on three legs Vets for her, I will ring them tomorrow. Bugger!
  23. Thank doG we do not live in a paralysis tick area, the thought completely horrifies me!
  24. EI if you are wanting to insulate the roof, can I suggest looking at Bondor panelling?? It is Cool room panelling and comes in a range of thicknesses and I believe they may even make one specifically for roofing??? Not sure. There is a warehouse in Canning Vale I think, Perth anyway I just got a heap of panelling for my kennels from there.
