As I learnt the hard way. It wasn't there because they hadn't looked. Once they started dropping dead it was a bit late! -
Can I Ask For Some Prayers For My Furbaby?
OSoSwift replied to esky's topic in General Dog Discussion
What gorgeous photos. You should be very proud of yourself, those dogs are stunning and to think people have chosen to not have time for them. Shame on them. All the very best for you Penny girl and Whippity hugs from us -
Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
OSoSwift replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
My conversation today Why is your dog so skinny? He is not skinny he is a lean fit running machine oh Ever seen a fat athlete? Nope Well there you go, if the Whippet was fat it couldn't run fast ohhhh Seen a chunky dog like say a Stafford run really really fast? Nope Well, there is a reason for that Lean mean running machine, not skinny okay. -
Pig hunting done by people with a clue invloves finding, tracking and holding the pigs until the hunter comes in and dispatches the pig. There is no mauling, jeering, laughing at the situation. If I take my Whippets out hunting rabbits am I a bloody thirsty redneck cowboy as well??? What if the rabbits are caught and dispatched in seconds? still a sicko enjoying the kill? Nope a farmer with a feral pest problem. I lay baited oats the birds eat them and die, I take a dog out hunting and the Rabbits are killed far quicker and no bird life dies.

I would also talk to the people at SAFE Perth. They are really good at matching dogs/people. And yes all the above questions will need to be hashed out with you dad. A Greyhound or Whippet even may fit, young Whippets can be a bit more energetic but older ones are quite sedate. Sorry to hear of your loss of your mum.

We can have 2 dogs within town limits, 4 outside town limits withou a permit. They easily hand out permits for a third dog in town if there have been no noise/wandering complaints, costs nothing. If you want a fourth dog in town they will come and look at your property and speak to neighbours to be sure but once again costs nothing :)Not sure about above that :) That sucks totally Ptolomy. Hope your insurance covers a new one for you. Rommi is still going well adn coping well with confiment. I am however, bored of it. Lewis is getting to do loads of fun stuff and she isn't and I feel awful for her. Bright side, when she is finally all healed she will be able to do fun stuff and shouldn't have any pulling up lame issues. Still seems to be taking forever though........................

At the moment I have one who is crated from TPLO surgery, don't hear a peep from her, I am very glad she is crate trained. We still have some time to go! The otehr one is crate trained but I still he would still find it difficult if he had to be crated at the vets by himself. I have always told them they have him they get her as well or they would hate me :) His issue is not the crating as he was crate trained from a young age, his issue was he had never been without human or canine company until I got him at 8 months of age and started training him to crate by himself and be in the dog run (next to another dog) by himself. We went through some moments and he has slightly damaged some teeth biting at wire and trying to get out, but I can leave him in the dog run totally by himself now without an issue - thankgoodness. I never leave my dogs inside when I go out as I have a house fire phobia and as we live rurally they are safer int heri dog runs, green grass yard than in the hosue should a fire go through.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Without Health Issues.
OSoSwift replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Arcane if you are seeing a vast majority of dogs with weird/missing toes I am guessing their genetic bases are very similer. I have seen the odd one with the nose issues, some with the knee issues and a couple with ehart issues but most I have seen have lived well past double figures. We will see what the BYBers dogs live to given time. -

Unfortunately I would say 98 to 99% of the CKCS I see down here are BYB. A person was breeding , had three litters and there was at least one in each litter with a jaw like the pictures above. Some of them have horrendous temperments, I mean a Cav trying to attack a dog walking past that doesn't even acknowledge it is there. Most are overweight, some have died from diabeties. Some of them are gorgeous little dogs with no obvious issues as yet, I think the eldest litter are around 3 ??? I LOVE Cav's and we seriously considered getting one. I did lots of research and had started contacting some breeders, we decided to get another Whippet. I would be going to the breeder with sport and ET titles, lovely sound dogs there :) -
I have worked with a few vets, brilliant, trust them with my dogs 100%. However they asked me for training tips and advice, quite often with puppies, and there were quite a few breed specific things they had never heard of why?? they had no need to. I was just a nerd collecting brain fodder. Came in handy more than once :) The point is on the subject of exercising a young BC I would go with the knowledgable people in this thread before I went with what my very knowledgable, just did major orthopedic surgey on my dogs leg and did a brilliant job, vets

I had the grand daughter of my Dobe that bloated and had no issues with her, I don't believe her mum had issues either. My young Dobes dad died from Bloat as an aged dog.

Poor babies

Yep she didn't cope with not being near me either - luckily I worked at the vet hospital, but I had to sleep at work with her and couldn't leave or she went balistic in the cage (fully crate trainined no issues normally) unless she knew I was there. I could be working and no worries but if I left all hell broke loose and drips were ripped out and everything shredded. Due to the fact she had so many abdominal surgeries - 8 in her lifetime - we had to be very careful that she healed properly so she was crated for quite a while
-
she didn't tortion, well I don't think she did the second time - she was in Perth staying at the breeders - the third time was bloat only. Three bloats in 18months or something equally as awful!
-
My Dobe had the tacking done after her first GDV, she bloated twice more after that and required surgery.
-
Out of interest did the person who bred her say she had been wormed? and/or have you done her yourself? She looks a little pot bellied to me which may be from her diet or may be from worms if she has not been dewormed correctly. The best of luck
-
I say as a breed yes they generally are, however the child needs to be well behaved and considerate of the dog as the dog won't and shouldn't tolerate just any behaviour. I also say that well bred Whippets with stable temperments are good with well behaved children.
-
I have had a dog bloat +/- GDV 3 times. My advice ...dog + car + bolt!!!! Ring and tell them you are on your way, or leave and get someone else to call. So sorry to hear of your loss Sway

I would be interested :) very much so.

I know exactly what you are saying MG

Why Dna Health Testing Is So Important
OSoSwift replied to dancinbcs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am such an advocate of health testing. This is a perfect example of why! Something so preventable that has caused such heartache and pain. -
I have only just caught up with his thread. I am so very sorry for what you, your family and your little puppy have been and are going through. People wonder why I am so pro health testing. In future I will also direct them here. You have met such wonderful and knowledgable people here who I am sure can help you when you are ready. RIP little man, run free forever, no more pain, no more sickness.

Rommi had her check up and sutures out and all is going well. She gets to go into the dog run during the day now and is loving it :)

The secret to good kyk in summer is to water every second day third at the most and fertilise with a low phosphorous fertiliser every 4 to 6 weeks
