I cannot feed one of mine pretty much any fat. Any meat he eats is very lean or he has the same issues along with an upset tummy. Lean raw roo is fine. Lamb is a definate no no as is chicken - even lean, bacon would be a disaster and beef only in small amounts and lean. He does not tolerate any fat much at all.

For Those That Have Used The Suprelorin Implant
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Interestingly I have very recently noticed that I could actually notice Lewis's testicles more easily. Previously they were small, rather the size of a sultana grape. Today he was trotting along and I thought, hang on I can clearly see two testicles. Had a closer look and yep they appear to definately be bigger and are much firmer than they were. It appears maybe, and finally the Suprelorin is wearing off. Am not holding my breathe as yet BUT if it has-finally- and they continue to grow back to their normal size, it has only taken 25 months from the implant date of a 12 month implant! -
They seem to get them in very close. Not sure I would be comfortable with that................having said that I have had Dobes in the ring and they are up and on their toes just by being in the ring with other Dobes so getting them that close would be a disaster. The WHippets would just looked bored :)

I have rehomed my inlaws dog in the past. I made up some ads, posted them about, got god knows how may calls in the first hour - the add read only to an approved home - no mention of cost. I had a lady ring me up within 15 minutes. sounded genuine. Her and her family came out to visit us adn the dog the next day. I then told her I would visit them and check out where he would live. All was good. I then took the dog and all his belongings out to their place. It was nearly a week from when they first came out to Butch going to live with them. I didn't make it easy, the lady appreciated why and was very happy to go through the process. He was desexed, vaccinated up to date with everything had his insulated kennel, coats, food etc etc. I would have kept him happily had it been the best situation for that dog, it wasn't as one little Jack Russell was going to end up as Dobermann poop! He is spoilt and we are all still in contact. I guess FTGH is not as much of an issue as the - must go today, must go or will go to the pound, or the dogs goes to the first person who turns up. It is the way it is done. All the ads get up my nose therefore I don't read Gumtree

That page has gone poof!!! I try to get the point accross without being looney when I do it, but these days I do it rarely as down here there are so many of them and apart from taking them all myself it makes not one ounce of difference. Too many idiots and imbiciles. I help where I can and make sure I am polite and concise when trying to head them in the right direction ie contacting breeders/rescues etc desexing before rehoming not breeding at all!!! recent ad - no there is no Chiwawa in them they parents were both pure Maltese Shitzu's Sigh!!!!!!

My dogs wouldnt jump a three foot fence, however I am babysitting a friends dogs who climbs any fence of any height if she can get a foothold. 6 foot should be high enough for most Whippets

So will you be getting and taking two dogs back with you?

What great news :)

So very sorry to read this. -
She has also recently become a breeder member of Aust Pet Dog Breeders Registry. The cross breeds are registered on that. She is also a registered business

I have had a puppy with Canine cough at 10 weeks. She ended up with a good cough was put on AB's as a precaution as she was so young and she sailed through fine. I would let the breeder know just as a courtesy. Hope your little baby is better soon

1 - More research into vaccinations and long term effects and also term of efficacy. Ie it is said now the core diseases need to be vaccinated against every three years by some but others say not at all after the first yearly booster. 2 - Research into more DNA tests for diseases which are yet to have one :) - I know that is not very specific. 3 - Research into GDV 4 - Research into DCM 5 - And I like lots of other peoples suggestions.

For Those That Haven't Gone To Training Recently
OSoSwift replied to Cosmolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have not been to training in around 4 months. That is only because we are in the process of building and starting a business and my time is very limited. Yes I will do more training but a little down the track. I go to our local club but do my own thing so don't have any issues with classes too long/boring etc. I dont have too many issues with dogs lunging or getting in my dogs personal space as I work a little away from them and if any dogs/owners cause an issue they get told. -
Are People Rude Or Am I Too Sensitive?
OSoSwift replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our boy was put down recently at almost 15. At 10 he was diagnosed with ehart disease and we thought if he made 12 we would be very lucky. In the end his heart didn't kill him. When people commented he was old I usually answered no he is ancient!!! He looked old, was deaf lost a lot of his sight and we had to be very careful with him. I was proud he happily got to where he did. I lost my girl at 8 and a half quite suddenly from an incideous disease. I never got the chance to see her old, I never got the chance to have her as an old dog. I hated that for a very long time. I was very angry with that. I think you are being too sensitive, you may not see your dog is old, you may not want to see your dog is old, but they are just people trying to make conversation. I think if yout hink 12 is old, thinking 11 is only just old is maybe trying to deny the truth. Rejoice in the fact to get to have an old dog. -
Do they need a referral though from a regular vet to say "yes they need chiro treatment" etc., or can we just go to one ourselves and then claim it? NOt sure??? I think you can go to one as long as they are qualified as stipulated in their PDS
-
If my kids that I would be extremely embarrassed. Apologise, make the kIds apologise and then told them off. You have every right to speak to the child and the mum should be paying more attention

Holding On To The Dumbell Issues
OSoSwift replied to Sparty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I agree iwth the bucket of extra special food, chair dumbell lead etc. I had a dog who had completely shut down to the dumbell. I crossed over to clicker and decided we could do it. As soon as I got the dumbell in my hand she completely shut down. I waited her out - over many training sessions it took 5 hours, yes 5 hours for her to look at that bloody dumbell. The good news is once we got past the stumbling block caused by past experiences she became rock solid and it became one of her favourite things to do. Do not give up and do not go too fast. It may be that your timing is very slightly out. Do you have access to an experienced clicker trainier who could stand behind you, sit near you and click for you? -
Petplan covers alternative stuff so long as it is a qualified holistic vet, chiro vet etc.
