Drooling After Anaesthetic? - Update, Rip My Little Man
OSoSwift replied to kiwioz's topic in General Dog Discussion
RIP Cal, so very sorry to hear that. -
Have I complained about poor performance? No, do I have a tick issue? No, even the heartworm risk down here is a very small one. To say the health of my animals is not of paramount importance is wrong an down right rude and offensive. Maybe the vets whom I have spoken to that have suggested splitting it should be the ones who get spoken to? My animals are extremely important to me thank you very much!

Difficulties Trying To Fly A Bitch Canberra To Melbourne

Excellent result :) Lovely to know you have someone you can count on for good customer service and that will do all they can to help. -
I split advocate. I open the ampuole, get a syringe with a needle, such out the contents, remove the needle then split between the dogs. For advocate the dose is 0.1ml/kg but I have no idea about Advantix. I gave my 11kg Whippet 1.3mls and my 14kg whippet 1.6mls to make sure they were covered but not getting more than they actually required. They would have been getting 2.5mls, had I been giving them their actual dose even though one just scraped into the weight range. I used to buy the over 25kg packets as I also used it on my Stafford.

Warning - Crackle Heads Cuz Toys Can Be A Choke Hazard
OSoSwift replied to Tilly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Exactly my thoughts -
From the horses mouth so to speak

We are a smaller area, they know who has what kids, who has short term room and who doesn't. Kids are driven or flown elsewhere when required. The are with Social workers or whatever they are called for the shortest time possible

Great update, now lets hope they can find out the cause

Have those who have has this issue notified the company?? If not I think it would be a good idea to let them know -
Yep and the Whippet community has saved Whippets from there. Like I said I find out about the ones I need to in WA and even though I am vast distances away, I have helped get them saved and into rescue. I don't need to see it here though, not that I even click on them 99% of the time. Mostly they are lgeitimate ads, - might make my blood boil but they are allwoed to do it, so I choose not to look.

I do not go onto Gumtree for the pure fact it makes me want to reach through my monitor and throttle the crap out of people. I know it happens, I find out about the ones I need to, I don't need to see it on here. This is where I come to escape to be among people who do have an idea and mostly have similar ideals and values as I do. Sometimes I just don't want to know Gumtree even exists as it's bad for my blood pressure.

True. I've heard some horrible stories about reports being ignored. It is really about what is in the reports that are made. Child protection is the same. People can and do report, but they give so little information that they do not have enough to go on. Child protection is based on reasonable belief, police warrants are based on reasonable belief. The police cannot prove you committed a crime without finger prints, DNA or the like and these cannot be taken without you being arrested first. They are simply required to have reasonable belief. Child protection cannot prove a child is being harmed without seeing the child. In order to see the child they have to have reasonable belief. Are there children who slip through absolutely, are there children who are taken who should not be, absolutely, and way too many. I can assure you there are websites of parents who seriously have done nothing more than the average parent and the kids were taken away, often at 3 am by the police, and put in some institutional setting with total strangers, kids are not placed in foster care at 3 am that is left until the following day. Don't think that traumatises a child?? Whatever one might think of dail docking it is illegal in ALL states of Australia. The RSPCA cannot just do as they like, they are required to get court orders to keep any animal in their care. They can enter to investigate, just like child protection and the police. Of course foster children can be placed in care at 3am in the morning. I'm not sure where you have received this information from. They most certainly can be my friend works for DOCS and another is a foster carer. they get renoved and palced in foster homes when they do not matter what time of the day or night it is.

You missed the worst part of that story. They took the dog to their vet hospital, put it under a general anaesthetic and x-rayed it all without the owner's permission or knowledge to ascertain whether the dog was a natural bob or had been docked. I was so horrified. The owner had no idea their dog had been taken and it was a brachy breed to top it off. Unnecessary GA and the dog could have died while under and who would be responsible?! Not the RSPCA!! This exactly, I would have been furious. The dog's tail was perfectly healed, it showed no signs of pain or discomfort, it was well fed and had water a bed etc. They climbed onto a balcony they dog was on as the people were out and seized the dog. They could have waited until the owner was home, told them what was going ona dn asked them to bring it in for an examination which may or may not have involved a GA, my dogs will lay still and stay so don't even need sedation unless theya re in pain of course. If it was me I would have gone balistic

Rspca Criticised Over Claims Test To Decide Fate Of Dogs Is Misused
OSoSwift replied to minimax's topic in In The News
I agree O-G some of the answers are ratehr so -so. I think even my mild mannered Whippets would fail that test as one will allow people to handle him but pretends they don't really exist, then other would jump all over them. Also if I leave a room in an unfamiliar place he would whine and not settle, they both stand at the door and stare were I have left as it is. The small fluffy test would be a fail and greating a large dog woulkdn't go so well either. I imagine in a kennel environment they would be very stressed and would not cope very well at all. They are the best, easiest going dogs I have ever owned. I think their whole bloody system needs an overhaul but this test is very bad and if being performed by people with little knowledge it is even more dangerous -
We will have to catch up next time :)

Serious Car Accident Involving Racing Greys And Trainers
OSoSwift replied to OSoSwift's topic in In The News
They had travelled to Adelaide for the Adelaide cup so I would imagine so. It would be the same as a racehorse trainer turning up to the races with a truck full of horses. The big, successful trainers would have quite a few dogs in training. I know of dog show people who have arrived with nearly as many, sometimes two people have travelled together, sometimes they are showing for the owners. -
I am sure it won't take long WnH :D

Serious Car Accident Involving Racing Greys And Trainers

Latest link MISSING HOUNDS FOUND! Monday 08 October, 2012 News today that four missing greyhounds; Lektra Ottens, Lektra Ice, Daven Bale and Bance Bale, who all went missing after two separate car accidents last week have been found safe and sound. Lektra Ottens was involved in the tragic car accident involving George Dailly, Carl Schlensog and 14 racing greyhounds, which claimed the life of Big Black Mac, and had been missing since Friday. George and Carl are both okay after the incident and were home by last Friday afternoon. Today though, owner Phillip Lenehan received the news that Lektra Ottens had been located near the site of the accident. “He had been going to an old man’s place at about 5pm each day for a feed,” a relieved Lenehan said, “He has been found but is yet to be captured but Andrea Gurry is going to go down with another greyhound and they will hopefully have him home safe after that.” The gentleman who located the missing greyhound didn’t know about Friday’s accident but had been feeding Lektra Ottens out of the goodness of his heart. Lektra Ottens was even seen sleeping in the man's backyard and had reportedly been camping near the property. Another three greyhounds (Lektra Ice, Daven Bale and Bance Bale) that went missing last week after a separate incident have also been found, with trainer Heather Collins ecstatic that all her hounds were found with little to no injury and are sound besides being a little dehydrated. “It’s such a relief, as time went on we were getting a little worried because not knowing is very tough but it was such good news when we found out they were all okay,” Heather said. -
