  1. This can be scary because they have a lot of supporters and prob most of them have no clue about working livestock so they may support it because they dont know better Exactly. I am going to bring this up with my local member of parliament
  2. Am I right that this affects all states of Australia?
  3. They have absolutely NFI. What a load of shit. Those of us who raise livestock do not allow them to be traumatised, injured etc. It is in our best interests to have healthy quietly managed animals that are not traumatised. Unless they have an idea about stock and working them they should piss off and shuffle papers in their office. I don't use prodders - my choice - but in some circumstances they are used for safety. They need to be made accountable for their idiocracy. Next it will be limiting how long a dog can work in a day/ week etc s So bloody infuriating!!!!!!!
  4. My old dog was on prednisone for nearly 5 years. He had frequent checks and regular blood tests and had no issues from the drug I hope he is better very soon it is such a hard time to go through
  5. I would call back, go higher up and complain about her a d her crap information. Of course animals can have reactions. People react to "safe" things every day. Stupid woman!!
  6. You can charge as much or as little as you like. You could give them all away if you wanted too.
  7. Sounds a bit that way, and I know nothing about these people
  8. You and me both!! How far are you guys from Perth? ETA I win!! Google maps says 595kms from Perth to Kal, we were 724kms from Perth to Esperance :D
  9. That dogs howls were heartbreaking!!!!! Good to see he was okay and they guys did an awesome job and you could tell the really cared. Well done guys
  10. Whitka, if you are heading down here we could have our own mini do :)
  11. My other story involves the Magpie. Not sure how many people have handraised them but they are noisy, demanding, cute and very intellegent. My young Dobe knew you do not chase the bird - ever. Magpie I am sure, knew that the dog would not chase her and I am quite sure would see just how far she could push the Dobe. When training the dumbell retrieve, the Magpie would help by waiting for me to throw the dumbell(not very patiently, she would yell at me while hopping from foot to foot) She would fly after the dumbell, then when it hit the ground jump on it and kick it all around while telling it off. The dog would be sent, Magpie would stand back, then run along beside dog, still yelling at said dumbell. Dog would come to the front and sit waiting to be told to give. Magpie would take that opportunity to peck dogs nails, My Dobe HATED anyone touching her nails - ever. Dobe would sit there holding dumbell with pesky Magpie pecking her nails. She used to sit there rolling her eyeballs, like oh for dogssake control the bird would you. Once dumbell was given up, Dobe would be rewarded while Magpie ran around like a chook making chirpy, happy noises hoping you would throw it again!
  12. I had a Guinea pig in a cage with her babies who were only a few weeks old. I put the cage out to catch some fresh air and a little mild sun. That was all good until a willy willy came along throwing the cage on it's side. the lid flew open and mum and three babies were terrified and running around in all directions. I was outside with both the Whippets. I hadn't had Lewis for that long from memory, maybe 6 months?? I yelled leave it, Rommi removed herself and stood a good six feet away. Lewis was standing there looking very curiously at the babies. One stopped around 30cms from his front legs. I thought oh crap this is it, his leave it is good but he is a Whippet and this is a small furry. As he bent down to sniff piggies bottom I roared leaved it, Piggy bolted, Lewis-bless his socks-removed himself next to Rommi and then stood there while I was throwing myself around catching mum and babies. All piggies survived and I became a believer in small miricles!
  13. I have recently looked after a dog that I am convinced has been debarked. HIs bark was not high pitched, not annoying at all and he didn't wake me up yapping. I had to go oh he is actually barking. He was still loud enough to be heard but it was not annoying at all.
  14. Marrow bones are full of fat - marrow is very high in fat as is lamb. I would cut out the marrom bones and lamb. Give them say beef ribs- well trimmed instead of marrow bones. And maybe chicken wings instead of lamb bones? A bone can be a meal - depending on size/amountof meat etc on it - so on the day they have a decent sized bone they don't get any dry food.
  15. Hmmm I really don't know anything about ticks, but I would be getting a second opinion on this one I think. The best of luck and I hope he is back to normal very soon.
  16. I would be thinking along the lines of retrobulbar abscess. Hope she is okay and feeling better very soon. Poor girl must be very uncomfortable
  17. I think water breeds tend to have more webbing than those that don't. Unfortunately I don't have a Labrador to compare to my Whippets. As in the webbing goes down further..............I am not making much sense am I?
  18. Ahhh okay that would explain it. Demodex can be controlled by Advocate Monthly I am quite sure. I have an old packet somewhere I will look later I think it's down the kennels
  19. No I haven't but I know someone that had a similar issue and the dog is on monthly advocate and has no issues. Not alternative but successful.
  20. While it is your house I think a little management won't go astray. My dogs are inside but have a lovely safe yard to go into as well. Sometimes to make it easier I put them out there. I don't have to worry about one trying to steal food, or jumping up or annoying people who may not want to be annoyed. When they are inside if we have visitors they are sent to their bed anyway. I would compromise, however if there were snide or regular comments she would get told to zip it.
  21. Sorry I don't get what you are getting at. I have worked in veterinary clinics for years and I have no idea what you are alluding to?????
  22. The other thing is he walked through the front door and in one case knocked on the door - as well as not being at all worried or frightenend by the dogs. I remember someone saying that their dogs would probably let a thief in if they walked throught he front door. If they went through a window over a fence and places the dogs didn't expect to see people they would get more of a reaction. Rommi would mug a thief for pats, Lewis would probably be indifferent and only worry if they stole his bean bag
