My Dog Is Not Agressive Some Advice Please
Souff replied to A and G's topic in General Dog Discussion
This in itself can be considered an offence. If any dog runs up fast to me or my dogs it gets my boot in it's face. Even in an offlead dog park..? Definitely in an offlead dog park. Larger dogs rushing at smaller dogs are the reason that many owners of small dogs no longer frequent dog parks. Many smaller dogs have been injured at dog parks and when a larger dog rushes at them in a dog park on a later visit, it is terrifying for them and their owner. Such owners know that they can only take their small dogs there when the bigger dogs are not there and that was not how dog parks were intended to be. Even small older dogs are entitled to a bit of healthy exercise in a dog park, but often this can no longer happen because of a bad experience at a dog park. Don't let your dog rush at smaller dogs in a dog park. It is simply not on. Souff -
oooooooh, that is a LOT of puppy poop in a few weeks time. ;)

;) The council officers probably thought they were putting a polite message on those signs. What they probably wanted to say was "Dogs are BANNED from this beach!".

I think that is an excellent idea. Donations of dog food and cat food to ANY animal rescue organisation, RSPCA included. Not money. Food for the animals. That is much more like the spirit of Christmas. Souff

Check with your solicitor. If you are the registered owner of both dogs then you should have a good case. Souff

OMG I didnt realise that Deshonko Kennels were still trading. Seems it's THAT time of year again .... I might send you some referrals ......

"While Ms Le Couteur maintains that she has consulted with the sector I understand the Bill has come as a complete surprise to the majority of members on the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee - which includes representatives of the key animal welfare and industry organisations. " Would be very interesting to know how many registered breeders in the ACT were consulted by Ms le Couteur. At least Mr Stanhope is awake and thinking. Let's hope that other ACT politicians are too.

Yes, the 'outdated assessments' were made by the Government. The RSPCA claims it's ignoring service demand increases since 2005. You stated that the RSPCA's assessment of costs was not up to date. Mita, I quoted the wording from the article: "The RSPCA said it continued to operate under outdated assessments of its cost pressures." In that article I do not recall seeing any explanation from the RSPCA to say that those outdated cost assessments were made by government and the explanation you have given on behalf of the RSPCA is very good. Perhaps if that had been put into the media article it would have been clearer to the general public too. Souff

Thank you for the detailed explanation Mita.

It was an unacceptable abuse of power, but to whom can you report it? No ombudsman to handle this!

Hi there, I have had that quotation on my DOL posts for a long time now but I might change it now. Thanks for the prompt. I see a lot of very sad people and situations and I see what joy that babies (of any kind) can bring. Every time I take a puppy out somewhere with me, I see faces light up. The same can be said of a kitten, or a chicken, or of a human baby. New lives do bring joy to people. I do not go around touting that everyone should buy a puppy. When I have bred and sold puppies ( in very small numbers) I am always very careful who they are sold to and I still hear from the buyers of those puppies many years later. But I do like to spread a little joy in a world that already has too much sadness. We cannot buy happiness (as an individual component) but if we commit to sharing 15 years of our lives to caring for a puppy/dog then we can indeed be buying 15 years of happiness and have many great memories to carry through after that. btw it is not a quotation that I have used anywhere else. I hope your Christmas season is full of joy and if you have any little puppies in your life at the moment, that they bring you much joy too. Souff No offence taken at all because I am not guilty of anything but spreading joy in small amounts and I have had it there for too long anyway. Have now refined the new sig a little more. cheers! Have those charities also got this sort of wording in their news release? "The RSPCA said it continued to operate under outdated assessments of its cost pressures."

Interesting point you raise there sandgrubber, because there was a thread yesterday where breeders were accused of being elitist snobs for having a concern about where their puppies end up and whether the owner/the owner's property is suitable for a particular breed. So how can breeders do more without stepping on toes? Serious question - I cant see how they can win. One of the things that breeders can do is to give preference to buyers who have had a dog for many years and it has recently died and they are missing having a dog around the place. Those buyers have already shown their long term commitment to dogs. If people have never owned a dog before I often suggest doing foster care work first. Many decline which I find sad, but then fostering is not for everyone. Souff

Ok here it is .... testing, testing! The new sig is launched .... pity it is so early in the morning it might have been a good excuse to raise a toast! Coffee will have to suffice :D

This is power being abused. Blatantly. All based on ALLEGATIONS and not a sniff of cruelty or pain in sight of the cameras. The dog with the short tail might have been docked legally overseas ..... or it could have been born here with a natural bobtail .... or it could have already damaged the tail and had an amputation done (which has happened with a quite a few of the docked breed puppies). Why not call the owner and ask first? Written proof for both of the above short tail scenarios can be provided easily enough in most cases. I didn't see the show mentioned but I hope some of the docked breed owners out there have taken up the matter with their local Member of Parliament. Nobody's home should be broken into like that. Raelene, Nobody is criticising the quality of the work that the workers, paid or volunteers, do. Read the media article again, then read the comments. Souff

I like that word "balanced". It comes into balancing of the books too. Do you have a budget KKDD? Does the place you work for have a budget? Most people and places that handle money have a budget. Even charities. Souff

Well if it was raised 2 months ago, then I agree with you. It should have been in print to members by now. Souff

Kirty, Nobody has said that they dont do a good job with the animals. This is about the financial state they are in, as reported in the media. There appears to be something amiss. Souff

Hang on, are you sure she is not kidding you! She is a young Goldie and I tend to suspect that, unless she has a disability, she can do that jump if she has a mind to. Have you tried waving a bag of liver treats or Schmackos from the back seat? Or her favourite food? Preferably before she has had a meal. I would much prefer to see a young dog get into a habit of doing a bit of exercise than walking up ramps etc. But, that is provided she is healthy and has no physical disability that is stopping her from doing this. I have seen Goldies jump into other vehicles that are quite high so I would be making sure it wasn't mind over matter before I trotted out any ramps or such like. Souff

The accountant has forbidden Souff to do that ....... it is apparently more lethal than not knowing what your costs are. He mentioned something about champagne diet on beer income but I really dont know what he was talking
-
Why? Do they not have an accounts manager? Any business or charity whose assessment of costs is not up to date is sunk. SOuff

1 of 3 very good reasons for vaccinating our dogs. Souff

Well as vets can also be dog breeders they might be waiting a while for info ..... ouff
