  1. Use the whole tube there is a large safety margin with those products, if you use them as directed ie correct weight range for your dog.
  2. The only safe way IMO is to have a vet sedate them. I refuse to clip any cat that is not sedated, it simply is not worth the risk of injury to all involved and takes the stress out of it for the cat. Human hair clippers will not deal with car hair it simply does not feed through the blades properly.
  3. So you would go to the Vets at 1.30am for anal glands?
  4. Actually I see the paperwork from other Vet Clinics all the time because we run a boarding kennel and sight the vaccine certs and invoices that are often attached. The prices quoted on here are not something we see every day. Maybe for some elite parts of the country but considering the number of tourists we get boarding their animals, no it certainly is not normal.
  5. Amen to that! We see lots of vacc receipts and they vary greatly in price, although the best vet receipt I have personally seen was a client who came in with two small shih tzu X malts, one male, one female, and for desexing each dog & a booster vax was $800 and some odd amount... that's not together, that's EACH!! I can't see any way to justify that, no matter how expensive supplies are. Sorry, OT :D All one ever reads on here is the constant whinging and bitching about how expensive and how crooked the Vets are. I have never worked for one who ripped off clients, the outrageous prices that get bandied about on here are certainly not the norm, but I guess we live in a world where everyone wants the best for nothing, and Vet bashing is a good sport.
  6. Why is there a common misconception that vets are rolling in dough? Most vets I know (especially juniors) do it pretty hard! Prolly because we have paid thousands of dollars to vets! Very little of which ends up in the pocket of the Vet.
  7. I have seen puppies dosed with drontal with worm burdens, can be a few reasons why. Easy to blame the drug too when quite often a proper schedule isn't stuck to or owners pop medication in food and it isn't eaten, or the dog spits it out. Read the labels, regardless of the price if the ingredients are spot on then they will be effective, if used correctly.
  8. If you actually take the time to read the labels and compare ingredients you may be pleasantly surprised. Do your homework and you can find products that will do the job.
  9. Been using Milos for a few weeks now, I have found it to be a good product, as far as I can see it is pretty much the same as Leos.
  10. I have used Tramal, and I have had 2 dogs prescribed it, with no adverse reactions. It is important to remember that ANY drug can cause a reaction in any animal or in any human, it does not make the product bad, it simply means that the individual affected should avoid it and possibly similar products in future.
  11. Well, I can assure you that the most expensive Vets are not always the best. I know a lot of Vets that keep their desexing prices down to encourage more people to desex their animals. There is a huge difference in prices and in many places and it is not the quality of the service or the skills of the vet or the drugs used, or the aftercare, it is the surgery fee that is the difference.
  12. A Vet visit is in order, and a thorough check to see if there are other issues, if this hasn't already happened of course. Then maybe a prescription diet would be the best, strictly adhered to of course, with the daily intake divided into smaller portions over the day.
  13. my Mal did it for the sake of it. You could walk her, play with her, work her, run her ragged and if she wanted to have a woof WELL she had a woof. I am not home 24/7, she has canine company but loves running about. If sparrows have a fight WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF ha ha told you so. Kid squeals next door same thing. Someone breathes 3 blocks away WOOF WOOF HA TAKE THAT TOLD YOU SO *sigh* she's just a vocal dog. Thank christ she shuts up when she sleeps E collar worked on her but if not I would have had no problem debarking. Should be allowed a little more readily in victoria but this is the NANNY STATE ... no options for you! I have had play barkers, everything that is fun and exciting deserves a barking soundtrack to go along with it. ;)
  14. Surely a kennel could come up with something better than Chum. I'd be pretty pissed if I was paying good money for my dog to eat crap in a can. Eventhe thought of cleaning up after chum fed dogs is repulsive. Eew! If I had a difficult eater (which I don't ) I would supply my own food, rather than it eat Chum <<....shudder. We use Pro Plan or Eagle pack dry for the boarders at work and rarely get a refusal. A smidgeon of Natures gift or Eaglepack canned soon tempts those that are a problem.
  15. If indeed the dog does need to carry more weight, given that he has allergies I would simply stick to what he normally gets but increase the amount. Maybe the previous owners kept him light for a reason (joints?).
  16. The shampoo and the rinse are two totally different products. The OP is about the RINSE. The Shampoo is just that a shampoo that you apply then rinse off, it has no residual action. The Rinse is left on the dog to dry. It does have residual action.
  17. The odour will linger in the air, sometimes in combination with one of the horrid disinfectants which often combine to make it seem worse.
  18. Look I'm sorry, but having spent the past 25 odd years in the Vet industry, I believe it doesn't matter who tells them what if they are that way inclined. If people are too bloody stupid to read labels it wont matter what you tell them in the long run. Come next application time it has all gone out of their heads. Some people will still use products that are unsuitable no matter where they buy them from.
