  1. The biggest problem with Macademia nuts is the risk of impaction if they swallow them whole, just the right size and shape. We have removed quite a few at our clinic. I would possibly enclose the tree in netting to catch the nuts.
  2. There is very little difference in price between a normal Vaccine and the regstered 3year one, so little in fact that our 3yr is exactly the same price. Quite simply one drug company was quick enough off the mark to register a vaccine that Vets can sign off as being 3yr.
  3. Link to product label for your info Proheart SR 12 It is very confusing and yes we are a lttle slow here in Oz to pick up on these things, the change is coming though have faith.
  4. What age was your dog, when the initial dose was given? If he was still a growing pup that would explain the 6 month gap between doses, and his increase in weight since then should probably make it safe to switch him to oral or topical prevention. However I would discuss this with a Vet who is familar with the product. I understand your concern with using this product, I won't use it either and we do not reccomend it in our Vet Clinic. I must point out however that the Australian packaging of this product actually does state that it is safe to be given at time of vaccination. Totally different labelling here in Aus for SR12 than the USA and Canada and SR6.
  5. You only need a couple of fleas to start an infestation, and this weather the fleas just love. Capstar twice weekly and Advantage , vaccum madly, bomb the house and you will on your way to stopping them.
  6. Book was published before the Australian Shepherd even had a Breed Club in America the breed was still being established.
  7. If they have let it get in this state now, I'd clip it off and keep it that way.
  8. Spot on dyzney and you too Fifi. A bit more help and less of the judgemental crap that is exactly what is needed, and people let us all remember that it is the season for giving, and of more than just material things.
  9. So you wont use Vet who cannot clear the waiting room for you?
  10. I normally open the packet and allow the collar to air for 24 hours then I cable tie the tick collars to the inside of the dogs regular collar.
  11. You can buy 1litre Panacur 25 (2.5%) for between $50 - $60. Your vet could order it in for you but most of the online Vet warehouse type places do sell it.
  12. The problem is that anybody who thinks they might like to be a groomer can buy some gear and set them selves up. We have postings on here regularly from people who want to do just that. Different BREEDS have different styles and coats but groomers now days seems to see less of the pure BREEDS than the now far more common place DD's where there is no traditional cut. I only had a chat the other day with a young want to be groomer who has never been to a dog show, has no idea what the BREEDS are and thinks anything small and fluffy is a "maltese terrier" and that they have short curly hair. I have seen the botched Schnauzer clips, the poodles with receding hairlines and feet clipped to half way up the legs, Westies with Scottie faces the list goes on. Now for the owner who knows no better and really doesn't care that may all be fine, but if you want your dog to return looking the way the breed is meant to, spend the time to find a Groomer who knows your Breed. And for those that thinks you can look at a picture and simply clip a dog like that, it really isn't that easy.
  13. From the packaging: Directions for use Administer one tablet on any day when fleas are evident on your pet. Repeat on any subsequent day when fleas are again evident on your pet.
  14. I've yet to work anywhere that has a hydraulic table I lift dogs on to tables. Yeppers, nods in agreement, yet to be blessed with a hydraulic table.
  15. Yeah... I totally understand what you're saying, but surely it's not unreasonable to expect a pro to be able to handle my ~30kg lab? I have little doubt that this is what she did... But it's their job... I work in tech support, if I have a customer who's a bit difficult, I don't hang up on them... Know what I mean? Grooming dogs is such a joy, it is taxing on your body at the best of times, and the risk of injury whist dealing with big dogs is always there. I now refuse difficult dogs. The Groomers job is to Groom your dog, not train it or wrestle with it. How would you like a PRO to manage your dog?? Maybe string it up in a grooming stand so it cannot move, sedate it or simply wrestle it. You don't expect a hairdresser to chase a toddler around the salon and sit on it whilst it is kicking and screaming and attempt to cut it's hair. If only grooming could be done over the phone.
  16. A bit unrealistic yes, but many expect miracles from the Groomers or the Vets when they have an untrained dog. The coat thing, well, you normally wont get rid of it all in one sitting, a hydro bath and a dry will loosen up the dead coat and it will be surfacing, so that is something to consider. If she had come to me I would have charged you a lot more than $35 especially if I had to wrestle with her to get her done. I don't need my clients to be able to shake hands, but standing calmly for grooming is very helpful. For $35 in many places you would get a bath for a lab full stop.
  17. You could say the same for any animal that is in rescue or in the pound for sale, using your thinking they should all be PTS The fact of the matter is that these pups were destroyed because of their BREED and nothing more. BSL plain, simple and disgusting.
  18. The number of filthy dogs we are seeing for elective surgery has been staggering, I don't understand what people are thinking, let's not even talk about the fleas and the ticks.
  19. I second the popping back to the vet for removal, we don't charge for removal of sutures or staples, most clinics are the same.
