Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
Crisovar replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Puppy Vacc then booster at 15 months then that's it folks for mine. -
Please someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the cosmetics of docking are on the bottom of the list.....there are other reasons why some breeds get their tails docked im sure? I cannot see any medical reason why a dog would need to get their tail docked (at birth I understand there are issues that happen to older docks that lead to tail docking for health purposes). +1 I see no need to dock tails of dogs that are perfectly healthy and only because people think it looks pretty You have little understanding of the reasons behind the docking of certain breeds then.

I would fully support any attempt to have the ban removed, it is not cruel or inhumane when done properly. I often wonder how those who cry "leave them as nature intended" feel about ripping out the reproductive organs of baby pups.

Should You Clip A Gsd In Heat
Crisovar replied to best4koda's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Your best friends when faced with a double coat and hot weather should be a hydrobath, a high velocity dryer and elbow grease. Keep the dog thoroughly groomed out, plenty of shade, avoid exercise in the heat of the day, keep the dogs weight down (chubby dogs don't cope as well), and all will be well. GSDs do not look pretty clipped off ;) -
Is All Pet Mince Full Of Preservatives?
Crisovar replied to Poppy's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have 2 butchers that sell quality pet mince with no additives. So no all pet minces are not equal. -
Comfortis works within an hour of dosing.

Could A Whippet Live Happily In A Unit....?
Crisovar replied to pesh's topic in General Dog Discussion
A Whippet would do perfectly fine in an apartment just as almost any breed would with the right owner. It is not where the dog lives it is who the dog lives with that is the important factor. Bored, neglected, destructive dogs can be found in any sized dwelling or yard size. -
Petway Petcare have a couple of nice ones, Coconut Gloss, Soft Aqua (baby powder scent), Aroma Care (Lavender and Chamomile). I also don't mind Eau de Canine cologne.

Bobtails have been around in Rotts in Australia for many years, certainly long before the docking ban I remember litters with them in the '80s Many breeders treated the bobtails as devils pawn but the fact is they were and still are in existence.

Some horses just like some dogs should not be saved. A quick end and a hole in the ground is the best option for many. 400kg of horse is not something to play with, even the experts agree.

The dog won't even taste them if you dose them, that way you know the tablet has gone down, and that the dog receives the correct dose. It is really not hard to do yet so many people seem set on having dogs eat tablets like treats or muck around hiding them in their food. Pups that have been taught to accept dosing with medication from the whelping box are much easier to live with IMO.

Proban is no longer being produced.

If it was my pup I would probably rinse the pup in Fidos Rinse Concentrate or Cotex Hydrokill Rinse. Finding here that Frontline is having little to no effect, and Advantix takes too long if you have already found ticks on them. We are seeing Paralysis ticks here for the first time, and from all reports the problem is very widespread.

The child could have just as easily run up to a dog on a leash, has happened to me countless times. You almost need to beat some of them off they are so keen to get in your dogs face. It is frightening how many parents just stand and watch while it happens too! Unfortunate for the child that this time it was bitten, sadly it means possibly the death of a dog. Children are what they are, but so are dogs they cannot tell a child to back off, they snap that is what appears to have happened here.

Straight onto Drontal tabs from 2 weeks here too!

What dryer does your Breeder recommend and use?
-
It only makes the news locally because of the beatup over the state of the Health system, it was not a dog attack, it was a bite, on the face yes because of the size of the child, she needed treatment but was not at all a serious attack or mauling, not every dog bite incident makes the press, nor should they.

Paralysis Ticks are on the move following the big wet season earlier in the year. They are now in areas where they were previously unheard of. I have lived here since the early 1970's and we are now seeing paralysis ticks for the first time. Bandicoot numbers here have exploded and with them comes ticks, much the same in other areas I would imagine.

I'm wondering if it could be that the shampoo is not being rinsed out thoroughly, which can happen easily with heavy coated breeds.

The issues of face judging and politics have been thrown around for as long as I have been in dogs, and I really do not consider it to be the reason numbers at shows are falling. Once it was common to see exhibitors with large show teams, dog people are now not welcome in many council areas keeping the number of dogs that were once common is now extremely difficult, unless you are prepared to live in the boonies so this has impacted. The cost of setting up dog properties to meet the often ridiculous standards required prevents many from doing so. I know of at least a dozen exhibitors who are now entering less than half the number of dogs they were only a decade or so ago. This and rising costs have had a huge impact on numbers at shows.

It's semantics....but 'mauling' doesn't imply a repeated attack. The word 'maul' means to injure and the journo who wrote the article was grammatically correct in using the word 'maul'. eg: if someone is 'mauled' by a shark it can be one bite. No different with a dog. I get the impression that you are brushing it off as not very serious....'simply debridement and suturing'....so therefore should not be described as mauling? Any injury to the face, especially to a child, can leave lifelong scarring. It wasn't a serious attack , it wasn't a mauling. The child was bitten. Of course it could lead to scarring. But it wasn't a mauling, nor was it a dog attack. It was a dog bite. Some idiot who tried to separate 2 large dogs fighting was injured this week too, it also was not a dog attack or a mauling. It is ridiculous to call any incident an attack, a savaging or a mauling it is simply sensationalism.
-
It was not a mauling by any stretch of imagination, she was bitten on the face, requiring stitches. The beat up concerning the injuries is more to do with the fact that the local hospital is suffering a shortage of doctors. Facial injuries are always dealt with in such a way as to reduce scarring, that was not possible locally so the child was sent to rockhampton. It all sounds so much worse than it actually was. Should the dog have been off leash no, should the child have hugged it no, but it was not a mauling. More

Wrong! A proper gun dog is capable of lots of disciplined inaction, and is a dog you can live with between hunts. A lunatic is intolerable in a shooting environment. You must have an off switch. This sort of temperament is as bad as high hip scores and worse than carrying PRA. I would say you've got a poorly bred bitch . . . conformation has been put over temperament. Talk with the breeder . . . they need feedback. They may not be willing to do anything to help. But they should know. And you should not breed this bitch, no matter how quickly she gets her Ch. I'm tired of people talking about crazy, destructive Labradors. For someone who does time-trial based field competition, there may be some justification for having a high drive dog who doesn't know how to chill out. But such people should not sell their pups to the general public, or other unsuspecting people. WOW big call from one post from an owner, nice attack on a Breeder you know nothing about! The dog is also not a Lab by the way.
