All I have ever said in the past in relation to my dogs was that the dog has a current eye certificate, meaning it was examined and passed as clear. But I would not advertise a dog for use that wasn't clear. I guess it means different things to different people.

I believe Busta very recently was PTS due to a sudden illness, he had spent his last year as part of Steves family.

The Council here do have a Lost & Found page easy to use, easy to find, free to list, you can even upload a photo, people here rarely use it for Found animals, preferring to use facebook instead. Makes no sense to me, lots of lost animals listed and people are always ringing the council when they lose an animal, but those that find them don't think the same.

the bitch in the clip was 6 years old so bred and born 3 years before PDE. So it would appear the breeders were/are looking into their own backyard. Yes, and many always have been, but are overshadowed it seems by the glaringly bad ones that everyone is so quick to fall upon. We are constantly told if you breed to the standard and for health and soundness and away from trends you will not win and that as a result no one is prepared to do it, well there are those that have always bucked the trends and have continued to produce quality sound animals. That Bulldog in the video has been very successful. Once when large successful kennels of animals was not something to be ashamed of Breeders were prepared to take a harder line with their breeding stock, weeding out the unsound and the barren. Now it appears a much softer approach is taken and some of the very sensible animal husbandry has been replaced. Pups that wouldn't have been hand raised to keep them alive, bitches that cannot whelp freely, animals that cannot breed naturally are now being assisted to conceive and to give birth. All this plus the acceptable number of animals a Breeder can keep and the now far reduced need for animals to be used for their original purpose, I believe has contributed to what we see happening now.

Good grief you make entire animals sound like wild beasts.

I do not know the answer to that question Kirty :) However I do not think the question posed, can be used as justification for the current state of affairs at Crufts. There are many breeds that have Caesarians and utilise AI. imo reproduction and fertility is another discussion, and separate to the charade of health tests that the KC have put on display. fwiw I think health tests before significant awards is a good thing. However health tests before significant awards, should also be conducted before the preliminary classes of those significant awards. NO PERSON and their dog deserves the real time DQ that these three dogs (to date) went through. I would not like it, crikey I am bummed enough when one of my little creatures gets non awarded  And if nothing else it is not just. The level of media exposure given to the DQ, can never be counteracted by any subsequent appeal or Specialist veterinarian dismissal of the DQ. Yes they are show dogs. But they are someone's much loved show dog. Someone's confidant. Someone's pride and Joy. Someone's happiness. There is no care or better intention in what the KC are doing at Crufts. It does not inspire better breeding practices or foster good will. Only damage and disarray. Very well said

I met a 12 yo at the beach the other day. Her owner said she gets a bit confused sometimes but is otherwise in perfect health
-
Exactly!! So far all the ones that I have groomed that have died young have been grossly overweight. Except for one that died as a result of snakebite.
-
I groom at lease 6 CKCS that are in excess of 12yo and do not look like stopping soon, I wouldn't give up hope LizT :)

I guess that depends on how long your driveway is? Mine is over 1km how long is yours?? Given that we are talking a toy breed and not a sporting Breed.
-
If you eliminate your Best Exhibit of Breed you have eliminated your breed.
-
No, because despite the reputations some Breeds have it is generally still possible to find a Breeder with lines that are in fact healthy and sound and live long happy lives. So I would research and find one of those.
-
It will be interesting to see what sort of flow on there will be for entry numbers in the future, pretty pointless to prepare for a premier show and spend the dollars if a swipe of a pen rules out any chance of the breed even getting through to Group and no chance of appeal. What they are in fact doing is eliminating the entire Breed as unworthy.
-
Proving that the scar was caused by and accident etc isn't going to reinstate the dogs BOB after the event though. No Bulldogs in for group judging when in fact there could have been many worthy of waving the flag.

But some of them have no teeth. My guess is that perhaps there may be an alternate view that a dog with primitive detention that loses teeth at an early age may be considered a "health issue" by some outside the breed. And its only a guess but no other breed feature I can identify would promote veterinary interest Epilation for show ring preparation was what Jemima Harrison had in her sights. Good grief what a load of tripe Why? To the general public, epilation for a dog isn't normal. We are talking here about Vetting out animals that have serious health and conformation issues that need addressing, I don't think hair removal for the show ring really qualifies no matter how odd the public find it. But isn't the point that these dogs are good examples of their breed? Which should mean they don't need to be altered in any way to win? A whole different topic from this we could make a list a mile long of breeds that take show preparation to the extreme, but that does not make them unhealthy and unsound.

I have never seen a young Crestie with no teeth, certainly some very aged ones, though even they can still eat chicken necks and such. But even with missing premolars and sometimes incisors they certainly can still eat normally including bones. I see where you are coming from though.
-
I agree. I wonder what they have targeted Cresteds for? Surely not for being hairless?? Dentition perhaps? There is nothing about their dentition that precludes a healthy crestie from living a normal doggy life. They can eat, chew bones, clean their whelps, chew the umbilical cords, they can certainly bite if they desire. I shall have to ponder that.

New Vic Microchip Advertising Rules
Crisovar replied to Sir Sniffalot's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would be insisting that they act, or the whole legislation may as well be binned. As is the norm, those that do the right thing wear all the costs whilst the grubs carry on as usual. -
New Vic Microchip Advertising Rules
Crisovar replied to Sir Sniffalot's topic in General Dog Discussion
Each Brand has an individual starting sequence of number I believe. -
I don't know if they have similar rules to us in that regard. Surely though if you are going to Vet, do it before the breeds compete, instead of messing around like this afterwards. This seems more like a bit of grandstanding to try and show that they are acting on the bad publicity they have received.
