  1. You can buy it from Planet Organic. PO Box 1130 Coolum QLD 4573 Tel: +61 (0)7 5471 7788 Fax: +61 (0)7 5471 7911 Email: [email protected]
  2. Bear & Kooda look like any other large crossbreed dog that can be found in backyards across the country, the parentage of all of them is many and varied. To avoid the BSL crap that snared these two, we would have to eliminate crossbreed dogs and that is as unpalatable to me and many others as BSL itself. The Law is rubbish, it will not stop dog attacks and it will not stop irresponsible owners. It is not as easy as saying avoid bull breed crosses you would have to also toss out the Ridgie crosses, the Lab crosses, it goes on and on. If we have only Purebred dogs left the irresponsible meatheads who do not train, contain and care for their dogs properly will simply move on to cause them to be banned as well. Classifying animals as dangerous based on how some numpty thinks they look is sheer stupidity.
  3. I want a dog who needs lots of exercise and loves being outdoor (which both labs and border collies are)...I used to be a semi-professional dancer and spent lots of time training in the studios and outdoors...I want to stay fit and always wanted a dog and I feel now i would actually have time for it...I work only three days a week...as for training, I want to go through a proper training with my dog (go to puppy classes and than continue on with classes for more grown up dogs) - at the end of the day, I want a fairly big dog and I can't afford not to have him/her trained:-) I do actually prefer short-haired dogs. I want a dog who loves to play, being challenged but is also good with kids...I don't have kids yet but considering to have a kid in like 4-5 years...suggestions? LOL...thanks...much appreciated :-) Labrador
  4. People who produce deliberate cross bred pups (I refuse to call them Breeders) are not inclined to health test the parents of any litters they produce. When people breed for money they do not spend money on trifles like that, it eats into their profits. The problem with falling for a crossbreed then wanting one just like it is that they are not predictable. If you find a Lab X Border Collie it may well be nothing at all like the one you have become smitten with. Pups will not simply inherit all the bits you like, you could get a pup with all the drive and go of a working border collie and combined with the solid statue of a lab you could have one heck of a handful. Purebred dogs are more predictable due to generations of selection for various traits and you are more likely to get the type of pup that suits your needs by going to a breeder who knows their stock and can match a pup to you, or go to a good rescue group and buy a grown dog that has been assessed.
  5. From the ANKC website 2009 Breeders and Litters In 2009 it was estimated that the dog population in Australia was 3.41 million (TNS & BIS Shrapnel). It is estimated that 10% need to be replaced annually which indicates a demand for 341,000 puppies per year. In 2009 ANKC Ltd Breeders registered 66,588 puppies, so to provide the estimated number required approx. 274,412 were bred by people outside our organisation who have no accountability for health or welfare. In 2009, 4,869 ANKC Ltd Breeders produced 8,642 litters, 3,393 (70%) only had one litter. [ANKC Ltd figures sourced from ANKC Ltd Member Body gazettes]
  6. Nothing wrong with the necks or the meat you may just need to go slowly. I always start tiny bubs on meaty bones and huge pieces so they have to learn to chew their food and have had no problem with any of mine eating necks, wings etc from then on. If you have a pup that hasn't been accustomed from weaning hold their bone for them and teach them chew to get it out of your hand. Some gulpers can be retrained this way.
  7. My dog food always lives in my pantry have never had insect infestation due to that, more risk from supermarket dry grocery goods or birdseed IMO
  8. He may need a fattier type meat or the roo simply may not agree with him. Instead of changing his diet radically (thinking of his tummy here)maybe try switching the meat component first. Does he tolerate chicken? My previously hard to keep condition on girl does famously with chicken and VAN, roo didn't work for her. Now she is a recovered skinny scratchy walking sad sack she is doing marvelous with chicken and Van and Lamb bones. Also remember there really is no rigid rules re quantities to feed, depending on your dog (and Boxers can be hard to keep condition on)you may need to up your quantities and split into 2 feeds.
  9. Whilst it is true that Demodex is treatable and many dogs will never suffer from Demodex again generalised Demodex is definitely an far more serious issue and one that should certainly rule out the dog for breeding. Your Vet is correct an animal with generalised Demodex most probably has an inherited immune weakness and I would steer well clear.
  10. EI substitute any other brand for BH in this comment posted by you and the responses would be the same, you really need to get over your BH sensitivity. Regardless of what brand or feeding regime your dog is on he needs more energy than the amount you are currently feeding gives him. He is a short coated breed outside in winter. Think about it and re read what everyone has said.
  11. Have you ruled out fleas? If the dog is flea senstive then the bite from just one will set him off and the chewing and rubbing at the base of his tail is a very common symptom.
  12. Isn't that a totally subjective choice left up to the owner and their vet? I had mine done at 6 months and I'd much prefer to go off the advice of my vet then some random off the Internet. Desexing a Pom at 6 months and desexing a large or giant breed with a hug amount of growing to do is worlds apart.
  13. Yes, I am also very happy with this product, and it is reasonably priced.
  14. I am beginning to think it is something in the food
  15. Good Grief EI If I wanted to call you clueless I would have. Obviously you have an issue with your dog and his weight over winter of you wouldn't have posted what you have on more than one thread. Your dog is cold that is why he loses weight what would you like us all to tell you. The only miracle fix is more calories or a rug.
  16. I appreciate your suggestions but I am not a clueless dog owner, like many who appear on this forum. He is seen by my friend weekly, who is a qualified vet nurse [not an actual vet I know] and I am in contact with his breeder and his sires breeder. I also never said he won't be coated, I just said that he chewed his other coat and needs to be fixed up or a new one purchased. Probably a new coat seeing as there are some sales on at the moment. Now back to the tread topic of Black Hawk Holistic :) You started the discussion about your dog losing condition, if you don't want people to comment don't post.
  17. Strange that my two BC's do so well on it. The girl is 19 kilos & the young boy is 23 kilos & VERY active. They get a cup full each a day plus 100g of meat or tinned fish & in the mornings they get 1/2 a turkey neck & if anything, I have to keep a watch that they don't put weight on. I am very happy the way my two are going on BH....here is a picture of my girl with her stash from last weekends agility trial :) & their poos are a real delight to pick up & only twice a day & hardly any smell why do you think it's strange? Not all dogs do well on the same food. You're not even feeding straight BH but a mixture of raw and dry. Unless you are only feeding straight BH I don't think anyone can claim that it is BH doing the good or bad things people are saying. This is it exactly I don't understand how people can even think that there is a one miracle food that suits all. Why so much disbelief that BH does not suit all dogs....No food does. I can't feed certain foods to my dogs because they are not suitable..doesn't mean I am saying they are crap they simply don't suit. The same goes for recommended feeding amounts...the amount that keeps one dog in good condition could have another of the same breed or size looking like a toast rack or a hippo. Someone in one of these "feeding threads" quoted an amount for a dog that would have my own dog of the same breed looking like a cruelty case. Every dog has individual requirements and that is all there is to it. It isn't rocket science nor is it the end of the world if a food doesn't suit.
  18. Actually the amount of BH you are feeding him is not enough to maintain him over winter. Unless you are prepared to feed him a substantially increased ration or add extra calories by way of added fats etc your Pointer will continue to drop condition over the colder months unless he is rugged or inside. He is simply burning off too much keeping warm no matter what brand you feed. He is cold.
  19. I know pebbles,it sounds like a drastic step, but I have seen the huge improvement in quality of life it can bring. Just something to discuss with your Vet.
  20. If his other 3 legs are sound and he is in good health have you considered amputation of the troublesome leg. It does sound extreme but beats a lifetime of pain. 6 yo is so young for a small dog.
  21. Great rugs make canvas covered cushions they also make them to order :) Great Rugs we also have Snooza D1000 beds and they have stood up to everything our dogs dish out.
  22. Stainless steel for dogs and cats here, like Espinay some of ours are very old but still in excellent condition. Easy to clean and unbreakable.
  23. So you would rather them surrendered for Euthanasia or baited or bashed by the irate neighbours. A quiet bark seems to be a small price to pay to avoid that, and it happens all over the country every day..barking dogs give people the irits and some people will go to great often cruel lengths to shut them up. The actual procedure is very quick, the dogs recover very fast and very well, and they still bark.
  24. Never underestimate what cheesed off neighbours will do and how the stress can affect the family of the nuisance barker. If the end result of surgically altering the bark is a happy dog a happy family and happy neighbours what is wrong with that.
