  1. I make it up in large batches too, it really takes no time and the dogs do so well on it making it so worth a couple of minutes of my time.
  2. Firstly lock the dog away from the carpet areas, look into why you have sloppy faeces to clean up, diet? worms? unwell? There may be an underlying health issue that needs to be resolved, then buy some Oops Away to clean up, then spot clean your carpet.
  3. Problem is that not many people can be with a dog 24/7, some retraining is needed for times when she may well need to be contained. She could easily injure herself trying to escape. I would want to know if a dog I was taking on had issues like this, so they can be worked on.
  4. A good judge understands the reason for development of a breed and looks for a dog that he/she believes still capable according to structure, attitude etc, as part of the judging process. The standards describe the ideal dog for the purpose, but a depth of knowledge and understanding helps form the picture. A cringing cripple would not a good working dog make. Of course the system is not perfect, but as has already been stated many of the breeds can no longer be tested. The notion that all dogs are judged as show ponies is piffle.
  5. A Breeders responsibility is to ensure that the pups that they bring into the world are given EVERY chance of developing into healthy sound long lived adults, juvenile desexing does not fit into the picture here with many breeds. Rescue is a completely different ball park.
  6. I simply rent my space. The Vets do not interfere in my business at all, they are happy to stick to what they do best and leave the Grooming to me. Having a Groomer on site is beneficial to them, I also do the cat grooms and the tick shave downs.
  7. I use quite a few VAN products, I have found them excellent and the service and support is great too :)
  8. The easiest way to get a client to melt down and flounce off offended is to tell them their pet is overweight. You can tell them they are cutting their pets life expectancy down considerably and they still don't absorb it. So they move on to another Vet, or simply switch off. Desexed animals do not have to be fat it isn't rocket science, all mine are desexed and none are obese. I don't have to measure their food, or weigh it or them, one look is enough to tell what shape they are in, it really isn't hard. Feeding animals is like comfort eating for some people it makes them feel good, does the animal no good at all though.
  9. If they manage to lose(as in escapes) an animal that they have seized they don't accept responsibility for that either.
  10. I have always handled my own appointments, the dogs are all greeted by me and mostly discharged by me. As I said earlier I run my own business from Vet premises, and it works wonderfully well, the opening hours do not worry me, I no longer groom of a weekend except for a few saturdays leading up to Xmas. Finding a Vet who can see the benefits of having a Groomer available and does not want to control it is not impossible I have Groomer friends who have the same arrangement.
  11. I couldn't go back to working for someone else. I have total control of my appointments, pricing, etc and am lucky that I work in an environment that allows me to do so, and they respect that I am the Groomer and I know my job. Good Luck, I hope you can sort it so it works as well for you :)
  12. I work with rescues & pound animals, as well as the dogs belonging to my clients, I have also nursed Parvo cases. I have never had one of my animals contract anything from this. The other animals are not at risk from your dog.
  13. I was given some to trial, far to cost prohibitive for me. I didn't use it for long enough to judge it. The dogs ate it willingly is all I can say. There was a thread about the product quite a while back I am sure, in Health I think.
  14. Each Vet Practice has a different set up in mind, you need to have some lengthy discussions and reach an arrangement that suits you both. Personally I run my own business from their premises and it works exceptionally well for us both. Both businesses enhance each other.
  15. Having raised pups on VAN, using a VARIETY of meats and edible bones, I have found it to be excellent. Some people make it all sounds so complicated, when is simply isn't.
  16. Maybe you should read a bit more about his products.
  17. It is sold Frozen I must be missing something here.
  18. Where do you think wages, infrastructure, vehicles and admin costs all come from? Animal Control costs money.
  19. This dog is not HA from what has been written. HA and DA are not the same.
  20. Where does the money come from for all this when people scream about rego fees as it is. Animal control is a huge slice of an Council budget.
  21. I had 2 males who had to kept separated for 14 years, totally doable, neither one missed out on anything BUT all members of the household had to be on the same page, for us it was no drama. We also had the facilities to do this and our house is set up to allow this. I don't see any situation with multiple dogs in these numbers being successful 100% of the time if there is no contingency plan or facilities. The emotion needs to be taken out of it and the animals managed as animals, if it is too hard then rehome. But really it isn't hard if you want to do it.
  22. With 8 dogs in one home I am going to say that if you cannot manage to fully separate the animals then either start building some facilities that will allow you to do so if the need arises (and it has) or be prepared to rehome dogs that do not fit in. You have large dogs and some young strong dogs who want to test their boundaries and find their way, managing a pack like this takes experience and the ability to observe the very subtle signs that there is stuff going down. Some dogs do not get on, and never will, it is not a disaster it is DOG, and it can be managed if you are prepared to do so. Managing dogs in numbers means you need to be flexible, not all breeds or individuals are happy to go with the all in together in this fine weather scenario. Muzzling a dog does not remove what is going on inside the dogs head, in fact if you continue to leave them together in this way I would bet that all hell is going to break lose, you do not have a BAD dog, you have dogs that need to be managed.
  23. Not all Vets are members of the AVA, but all Vets are registered by the Vet Surgeons Board, they are the ones you need to contact.
