  1. Hi good luck with the grooming, I have tried quite a few brands and the best two (IMO) are Laube and Andis. If you have a toy or mini I would go with the Andis as they are a little lighter, cheaper and easier to handle. If you have a standard I would but the Laube they are a bit more expensive but are extreemly powerful and will make the job a lot easier. I used to use the KM-1 until I tried the above brands.
  2. If your puppy is only eating dirt, sticks, bark etc I wouldn't be too worried unless yo have poisonus plants in your yard these things are not likely to do any harm. Our old family dog always crunched up sticks and bark kept her teeth nice and clean.
  3. I have experienced this problem but it was alot more serious than an infection and we had to make the decision to PTS our 5 month old airedale baby, not likely your girl would have the same problem. I have also had one of my girls get a bladder infection but we only knew because she was weeing in her sleep , blood and urine tests showed up nothing so we had xrays done and they found it that way.
  4. We are feeding two standard poodles, two mini poodles and a very active tibetan terrier x? for around $30 per week. For breakfast the standards get each 1 cup pal pedigree (small bites) dry and 1/4 tin natures gift. The little dogs get 1 cup pal pedigree (small bite) dry and 1/2 tin natures gift split evely between the three. For dinner the standards get 1-2 chicken carcasses (depending on size) sometimes I stuff them with vegies, sardines, pasta etc. The little dogs get 3-4 necks each. If you wanted to make it even cheaper you could substitute the natures gift a few times a week with chicken mince. I used to feed a full BARF diet but I found it too hard to get weight on the standards and the little terrierx, I also think their coats are better on this diet.
  5. Has she had any tests done for urinary tract/bladder infection?
  6. I have noticed our new girl itches after I use it (first dog I have had a reaction from) washed her in epi-soothe and so far no itching.
  7. Fido's is normally very good for dogs with sensitive skin, it does wash right into the coat so I would be guessing the dogs haven't been rinsed properly. I would advise you to rewash them and be very thorough when rinsing. I have seen so many dogs after their owners have bathed them, have residue from the shampoo still left in their coat it is one of the biggest causes of skin allergies.
  8. I used to use the Fido's on our american bulldog and she would come up as white as the standard so now i'm stumped. I think i'll try the plush puppy aswell and see how it goes on my white girl. Would you mind giving me some feedback once you've tried it.
  9. That's interesting about the Fido's are your other dogs softer coated? Have you tried using a zoom groom to scrub her?
  10. Try the Fido's everyday shampoo it is soap free and works wonders on my white standard, I also use it on all my customers dogs. Try to wash twice it will also help.
  11. They can be pains in the butt sometimes, our little foster (failure) is only 5kg and smaller than my mini poodles and she will climb on the bookshelf and pull down everything on it, jump in the bath and steal plugs, facewashers. toys even the bottles of dog shampoo. I was going to kill her a few days ago we slept in a bit late so she ate one of my good shoes, chewed the laces in my runners and chewed the power cord off our wall heater. I have never had a small dog be so destructive hopefully one day she grows out of it, my dogs are also only left alone for very short periods.
  12. Try the Fido's everyday shampoo I groom for a living all the customers love the smell it also lasts a lot longer than the other shampoo's, it's also a lot cheaper. If you are comparing Aloveen to Fido's, the Fido's cleans much better and is also easier to wash in and out.
  13. Good luck, don't worry they will be fine. Extractions are not a big deal if they need a few teeth out don't stress about it, they will get over it very quickly.
  14. The price you have been quoted is very reasonable, I know it is a lot of money but bad teeth can cause serious problems to the vital organs if not treated, they can also abcess and cause a lot of pain and become very infected. Will your vet allow you to do a payment plan?
  15. How often a dog is bathed and how it will affect it depends a lot on breed. Most small long haired breeds should be bathed no less than once a fortnight but make sure you use proper dog shampoo, short haired and double coated breeds do not need to be bathed as often, it's best not to do it anymore than once every 4-6 weeks unless absolutely necessary.
  16. I'm a good groomer and I'm in Moorabbin only problem is I'm due to have a baby sometime between now and Monday so won't be back until May-June, not sure of anyone else to recommend. Prices for a cavi should be around $49.50 - $55.00 for the works, bath, dry, clip, nails cut, ears cleaned and anal glands emptied.
  17. I have a pair of malt x's both boys and the owner gets me to strip everything with a 7f except they have mohawks and goatees and the owner spikes them up (the mohawks of course) once she gets home. I have also had someone bring me in a golden retriever and tell me to make sure it doesn't come out looking like a poodle, wtf ????
  18. We went through the same thing earlier in the year with our airedale puppy, by 5 months old he was no better after having a lot of experience with dogs I assumed something wasn't right. We had xrays and ultrasounds done and it turned out his tubes were not connected to his bladder and one kidney looked very suspicious (possibly juvenille renal failure), we along with his breeder made the decision to PTS. I would hate to imagine how much 'discipline' this pup would have got if he had been in a less experienced home. He was also an extreemly smart easy to train boy.
  19. shoemonster I have 10 days to go, Bosun is doing well he is growing so fast he is only 5months old and is now almost as tall as my girl. I'm living in a mad house at the moment we have our four plus the two fosters (i'm not sure if i'm going to let one of them go ). I should be back on my feet in a few weeks (as long as I recover alright from the c-section) I can't wait to catch up with you all again. Kristie: really sorry I didn't end up catching up with you too many things happened too fast.
  20. I had this problem with Josh my oldest boy the stupid lady (BYB) that bred him taught the whole litter to use a blanket as a toilet and had never taken them outside, it took me until he was 11 months old before anything carpet, material or paper was safe. I also had the weirdest thing happen with one of my cats, a few months ago we decided to pull up the carpet in the loungeroom and put down floorboards my male cat who is 7 years old and has never had an accident or sprayed in the house twice stood in front of me and peed on the floor (the way a dog would) he hasn't done it since???
  21. Hi my poodle boy would be perfect for your pups to meet but unfortunately I am having my baby in just over a week so I can't get down there for a few more weeks. BTW Hi to everyone who I met down there I suddenly got too pregnant and couldn't get out with Bosun.
  22. My two mini's and two rescue dogs get chicken necks at least every second day without a problem, any time the chicken shop runs out of necks they are given wings, again without a problem. My standards are given carcasses and sometimes necks just as often with no problems. I work in a large vet clinic and only one vet advises against raw bones (all bones) after talking to numerous vets at work and also where I take my own dogs I have been told it is actually extreemly rare for a dog to end up with problems unless the bones are cooked.
  23. Ok thats a good start, use the same method in the daytime after he has had a play session and is quite worn out crate him with something nice to chew on and leave him to fall asleep as soon as he wakes but before he asks to be let out, take him straight out to the toilet. I am quite lucky with multiple dogs in the house the adult dogs do alot of the house training for me LOL. I have found little dogs take longer to teach than big dogs (I guess it's because they have such tiny bladders). My oldest boy (mini) was 11months old before he was 100% trustworthy but my standard girl was 100% housetrained at 12 weeks.
  24. I crate trained all my dogs by only ever locking them in there at night (bedtime), make sure he is quite tired and has been to the toilet and try to make it the same time every night. Again try to let him out for his toilet break at the same time everymorning, this will help him control his bladder. If he wakes you during the night for a wee take him out let him go then put him straight back in without any playtime etc. this way he learns that he can only ask to come out for one thing. I don't feed my dogs meals in their crates (I prefer to teach them to all eat together) but if you need to crate him at times during the day make sure he's worn out first and then give him a bone or chewy treat to keep him occupied (this is what I do if I need to cage my dogs at work). Using these methods (even with adult dogs) I have found it usually only takes a few days at the most before they are happy and not worried to be shut in a crate.
