  1. I think I may not have worded myself correctly I was happy to pay the fee and leave her with them to be assessed for her green collar, I even offered to pay the $100 and foster her until the right home was found, just so she didn't have to be passed through more places, obviously I would have had to fill in a foster carers form but we aren't guaranteed to be accepted. I am sure it was easy to figure out her breeder but unfortunately they aren't in a position to take her back, I wouldn't have given out her birth date if was worried about someone finding out where she came from, I just don't think it is my place to put their details on a public forum without their consent. I am trying to do what's in the best interest for Phoebe not what's going to make other people happy. Who knows she may end up staying with us and not going to a new home.
  2. Why should I pay $100 fee when I have done all her vet work and she can be rehomed straight from me? It's not like she is desperate to find a home. I thought since there waiting list for cat friendly greys was so long I could have tested her for her green collar and then been put on to someone that might have been interested in her. She wasn't born in Vic and I am not going to list her breeder on a public forum although they breed very nice dogs.
  3. Thanks guys I hope she gets a great home. anniek I will give Julie a call. I was a little dissapointed with GAP because the only way they would help is if we paid $100 and then surrendered her which I didn't want to put her through.
  4. We have a gorgeous blue brindle greyhound named Phoebe looking for her perfect home. She was born on the 19th May 2009, she is an ex show dog that didn't quite turn out how the breeder hoped. She is cat safe, child friendly and loves small dogs, she is fully housetrained is good in the car and a dream to walk. At the moment she is a bit skinny so we are trying to bulk her up, but she is very healthy with a nice shiny coat. She must go to a home where she will be inside and for a grey she is quite active so will need walking everyday. Her only vice is she likes to steal objects she thinks is worth collecting whether that be shoes, toilet rolls kids toys etc. She hasn't been put through GAP for her green collar because they won't allow us to do that if we are adopting her out, it is apparently the resposibilty of her new owner but I can guarantee she will pass and we would be willing to take her back if for any reason she didn't. Phoebe comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated etc. and also comes with her nice warm jumper. Here are a couple of pics. Here she is with one of our previous rescues that was staying with us while his owner was on holidays.
  5. I have had a few of my grooming customers contact rescue organisations and have ended up having bad experiences, one was told she could not adopt another male dog with the male pom she already had because they would fight (this was by multiple rescues), I adopted a little male poodlex to her and they are now the best of friends and very spoilt. One was told she was unsuitable because of her age even though her family was willing to take on the dog if anything happened to her. One was told they couldn't even meet any cats because they worked full time, their is many more I could add to the list. All ridiculous excuses to wonderful homes, I have stopped recommending rescue groups to my customers due to the way many treat potential adoptees (that includes AAPS) now only send them to the RSPCA/PAA or the Lort smith.
  6. Has she had ultrasounds and x rays done? We had an airedale puppy like this and we found out his urinary tract wasn't connecting to his bladder which is rare for a male but apparently not so rare in females.
  7. Bathing weekly or fortnightly is not a problem if quality shampoo is used and rinsed properly. I wouldn't recommend using any flea rinses but using capstar and a good spot on product instead.
  8. Some dogs that are friendly can still take a dislike to certain dogs, maybe some of these people haven't had a problem socialising with others. If your dog is straining on the lead it can cause other dogs to react in an unpredictable manner.
  9. Your dog has a combination of clipper rash and reaction to the antiseptic, he will need to be treated otherwise it will continue to get worse. Many vets are not aware of the problems the cause when they don't use clippers correctly.
  10. I have been wondering about this recently because my daughter has severe behavioural problems if we aren't careful with her diet. We have been mostly using Artemis but we are trying royal canin so hopefully it is just as good and we don't have any bad reactions.
  11. I have heard a few bad stories about dogtainers I would personaly stick with jet pet. I hope your poor babies are ok, will someone feed them?
  12. I know it is hard but it sounds like Banshee has picked the family she wants to be with. I took in a rescue poodlex because the owner was worried about the dog snapping at her two boys, he was with us for a few months before being adopted and not once did he show any signs of being aggressive. Her kids were hyper and noisy but our kids are very quiet and calm around the animals and he responded very well. He is now living with another dog and a young couple who are going to be having children in the next couple of years and they are very confident he will be fine. Maybe you can arrange to meet up every few months to check on her progress and offer to babysit if they want to go away etc. most of my ex rescues I still groom and a few come and stay with us when their owners go on holidays, it makes it so much easier to let them go.
  13. Collies are quite easy to groom out even thick undercoat. To make the job as easy as possible, wash her again with a good shampoo and then condition well especially in the matted areas. Dry with a force dryer brushing at the same time. Comb and rake through to finish. I have use this method on many double coated breeds over the years and it works wonders.
  14. k9katz do you deliver Artemis anywhere in Melbourne ? My guys are on it but I have the same problem, I always forget to order it before it actually runs out.
  15. Our little scruffy terrier Molly is my dads heart dog so much so that she now lives with him and his wife and is a very spoilt little girl.
  16. I also like the Liberty tables (wouldn't recommend any of there other stuff) a toy table would be suitable unless the cavi's are really over sized, then you would need to look at a terrier table.
  17. My oldest girl had surgery for stump pyometra less than 12 months ago. Her problems started around 4.5 years old and it has taken lots of antibiotics, expensive tests, incontinance medication etc before the stupid vets finally figured out what was wrong with her. She had the surgery (a week after cruciate surgery) and hasn't had a problem since. I have been testing her urine (at work) monthly since and no sign of infection. If this lot of antibiotics don't work do the surgery, if I had only known earlier what was wrong I wouldn't have let my girl go through so much before deciding on surgery.
  18. I haven't read every post but after going through this with my most cherished poodle all I can say is be very careful. My second poodle (the first I adopted as a puppy) was always very wary of children, would growl if a child even made eye contact. For us at the time we made sure he never came into contact with children. As he got older he became a lot more confident (with much hard work) and slowly we were able to introduce to children and he was fine. When my son was born he attached himself to him straight away. As soon as my son started learning to walk he started snapping. We had a behaviourist come in and assess him, we followed all advice and everything improved. Three years later my daughter was born, as she started to walk he was ok, but one day she wandered around the couch (didn't touch him) and he was asleep. Before my husband could grab her he woke up and lunged, sunk his teeth in millimetres from her eye. If he had of been any bigger she would have lost her eye and probably suffered a lot of facial damage. The next day he was PTS at only 9. Please no one flame me but I have learn't my lesson the hard way. I knew what he was like I took as many precautions as I could and did the hard work and the outcome was still bad. This dog is not even mature yet and he could get a hell of a lot worse. Please treat this very very seriously. Your dog is capable of doing a lot of damage to a child and no ones child should be put at risk for any dog.
  19. I've found Eagle Pack for dogs that put on weight easily but the Artemis for dogs that need to maintain or gain weight. I prefer Artemis because my dogs did better on it.
  20. She's gorgeous!! Happy Birthday My best friend picked up her first Newfy girl on Saturday, her name is Belle and at 9 weeks she is almost 8kg.
  21. After washing finish your girl off with Aloveen conditioner and only lightly rinse out. This will help to loosen any scabs and tangles and make sure you dry and brush thoroughly.
  22. Good luck with the new adition I hope you all have fun. The key is to be organised when my (now 3 year old ) daughter was born, I had my 3 year old son, 4 of our own dogs and 3 rescue dogs. All where poodles so needed constant grooming, I also had a chinchilla cat and a semi long haired moggie. I just allocated time for the animals when the kids where sleeping and walks where taken together with the well trained dogs and I would walk the others after the kids were asleep, if a day ended up too busy we would throw a ball in the backyard and do a bit of training as a group.
  23. Dallas my standard girl is very reactive to other dogs/cats and unfamilier children. For me she is quite predictable but that is because we have learn't over the years what sets her off. Ocasionally she will meet a dog she loves and becomes totally submissive this is more where I find her unpredictable. I am trying to work out what particular qualities these individual dogs have. It is very very hard to live with and although she is my heart dog I hope I never have another dog with her temperament again, in her defence she is a perfect house dog with exceptional manners and she turns heads everywhere we go.
  24. Get them on to Artemis my poodles coats have never looked so good, I also mix in fresh foods every night.
  25. We have a 9yr old mini poodle, 8-9kg. A 6yr old standard poodle, 24kg. A 1yr old afghan, 23-24kg. An almost 1yr old terrierxlhasa apso, 4kg. Our dogs all get along well but I never let the big ones loose in large space as the standard girl has a very high prey drive, she will chase anything smaller if there's a lot of room to run. My old mini girl goes everywhere with us and the other 3 stay all together with the run of house and yard.
