  1. I have posted this in rescue but I hope it's alright to post here as well. I urgently need somewhere for an elderly poodle to go, his owner has passed away and his family can't keep him so I have him here with me but he has to be gone tomorrow. He has had all vet work done (including a recent dental) he is in beautiful condition and is sociable with all other dogs, cats and people. He is housetrained and has excellent manners. I am going to try Rescued with Love but I need a back up if that doesn't work out. If anyone can help please let me know. Is there anyone that could transport this little poodle boy from Moorabbin vet in South Rd to either Monash vet or Sandown vet tomorrow before 11am. He can then get a ride to Canberra with a transport company.
  2. One of my dogs is terrible with storms, we have just started to use Xanax with excellent results.
  3. We have just named our new kitten Arrow so thats what I voted for.
  4. Poodles I have found black to be the most popular colour for all 3 sizes but red is probably the most wanted colour for toys.
  5. I have had a similar situation recently,I fell in love my inlaws neighbours cat when she was a kitten and have slowly watched her grow up and crave attention, she got to know my car and would come running for a cuddle. Many times I have wanted to knock on their door and ask them if they were interested in rehoming her. To cut a long story two weeks ago I found out she was being taken to the pound because they no longer wanted her (she was heavily pregnant)I spoke with her owner and they let me take her. Yesterday she gave birth to four gorgeous babies. If I were you I would approach them and explain that their dog is exactly what you are looking for and woud they be willing to let you take it in. Even maybe offer to walk it to start with give you time to get to know them before asking.
  6. We have lived in a multi dog house for years (now is the first time we are back to two)and the best mix we have had is 1 boy/2 girls. If we ever go back to having more than two we will only ever have one male at a time.
  7. We have Bella a 10 year old mini poodle and Rascal a 2 year old little crazy fluffy mutt (possibly a shihtzu x silky).
  8. My old girl Bella has a thing for balloons, if one pops and no one is quick enough to pick it up she will swallow it, she has given me a few scares. She also cocks her leg to pee. Her lastest habit is spending hours just standing watching our rabbits hoping one will escape. Rascal is another dog who has to greet you with something in his mouth at the same time making strange noises. He also plays with his food if we give him biscuits, he will bring one in to the loungeroom, put it on his bed, poke it, spin around, pounce at it, spin around again and continue the ritual until he is ready to eat it.He also has a quirky habit of curling one side of his top lip up and smiling when I talk to him or tell him to be quiet at the same time as play bowing and wagging his tail.
  9. My young boy used to get car sick (I think that was the main reason his owners no longer wanted him) we found puting him in a crate with a blanket over worked wonders.
  10. I have groomed quite a few and have loved all but one which was quite snappy and reactive, the rest have been happy fun dogs. One actually looked cross eyed, he was so cute. Definately a breed I would love to own.
  11. I feel for you grooming clients can be a serious pain in the butt, I know what it's like to rarely get time off and people thinking their dogs are the only ones in the world that need to be groomed. These are often the same people that don't maintain their dogs in between visits and then complain about the price. I think anyone that needs to raise a hand or voice to a dog to control it while grooming shouldn't be doing the job. I do many 'problem dogs' that have been turned away from other groomers and about 99% bite or misbehave out of fear. Maybe building trust and confidence would be a better option. I also wouldn't leave my dogs anywhere near someone that would shake or yell at them.
  12. I'm glad to hear my children are normal lol, I was worried they were the only ones that behave like dogs. Both of my kids when they were younger would drink from the dogs water bowls. My son once growled at an older lady in the street (he was about 3 at the time) because she stopped to admire my standard girl and he didn't want to talk to her. They are now 4 and 7 and are always walking each other around the house on leads and pretending to be dogs.
  13. I love my poodles and would love to have another toy once my old mini girl is gone. The small breeds I do plan on owning one day are papillon Pomeranian chihuahua (long coat) boston terrier It is my dream to own a bull mastiff one day but not until my kids have grown up and I have lots of time to put into training, walking etc. I would also love to have a greyhound (I adored the rescue girl we had) if one ever came up that was safe with bunnies, cats etc. I do have a soft spot for afghans, beardies and old englishes but I don't think a beardie or old english would fit our lifestyle, and after losing my afghan I'm not sure if I could find another that would match up to her.
  14. Barry Haywood he is located in Pearcedale (could be classed as another suburb) he is very gentle and gets excellent results. His number is 5978 5174.
  15. I am so sorry for your loss I hope you get some answers Would you mind telling me what area you live in ?
  16. Andis clippers should have minimal to no vibration. I had carpal tunnel surgery in January and the Andis were the only clippers I was able to comfortably use before then. I spoke with 3 separate suppliers and they all said they are the most ergonomic with the least vibration especially for someone with small hands.
  17. Over the years I have used Oster, Double K, Andis, Wahl and Laube. I don't like the Osters because they heat up too much. Wahl are the worst of the lot, don't do a good enough finish and don't last long enough, would only recommend them to pet owners although I know others like them. Double K are awsome but too heavy for all day use. Laube I love do a beautiful finish but a little too much vibration for my hands. Andis are perfect, light weight, little vibration, smooth finish and they last for ages, the only problem I have with them is a minor fault where the cord pulls away from the clipper but that is easily fixed.
  18. If you are not able to go for a good run or long walk every day stay away from the standards. They are a highly intelligent very active breed that require a lot of mental stimulation to be truly happy. The mini's are no where near as demanding when it comes to exercise and a good ball game and some training sessions each day will keep them happy if they get a walk a few times a week. The toys I have found actually need more exercise and mental stimulation than the mini's and will quickly become noisy and difficult to manage in the wrong environment. I would also consider the prey drive on any of the size poodles, they can be very high and if you have a smaller dog (if your looking into the standard) they can quickly become the target. Of course all this can be individual but I have found the above traits are quite common amongst the three sizes.
  19. I am interested in having my little x breed boy done he has loads of character. Do you draw other animals like bunnies and guinea pigs?
  20. Was the $700 for the desexing and correcting the hernias? if that doesn't include anything else that sounds very expensive. Is there another local vet that charges less.
  21. For the first time in many years we are down to 2 dogs. One is 10years old she has arthritis and has lost a lot of her eyesight, she is still quite active but can't do big walks anymore. The other is 2 years old and requires more excercise and mental stimulation. My problem is the younger one will not go for a walk without the older one,he sits and refuses to move. I am also finding he doesn't focus on me as much as I'd like at training and I'm sure it's because he wants to get back to her. How do I fix this problem, it wasn't an issue when we were a multi dog home.
  22. frufru I have seen groomers use 15# and 30# on clients dogs with not so good results, I personally will use nothing but a 10# on my clients dogs. A black poodle should not be reacting so badly if a 10# was used correctly, maybe next time the top of the tail could be done with a 10# and the underneath scissored, I have used this method on a few white poodles with good results.
  23. Sounds like your boy has been clipped too short in these areas, just curious what colour is he? Next time he goes to the groomers ask them to do his face, feet and tail with nothing shorter than a 10# blade.
