  1. Christina you took the words out of my mouth. Anything over an hour for grooming IMO is too much in one go. Any dog i groom is given a break if the whole process is going to take more than an hour. These dogs look like they are being treated as play toys for everyone's amusement. I have dyed my own dogs ears in the past but they were on the table for no more than 20 mins to have it done.
  2. I think they look stupid and I feel sorry for the dogs.
  3. A question to the people suggesting management rather than PTS, how would you feel if down the track the dog and child accidentally come in contact and the child ends up with a serious bite possibly needing plastic surgery or worse. How do you explain that to a child when older, their face is disfigured because you thought more of the dog. Here is a pic of my daughter after she was bitten look under her left eye. Although the wounds don't look that bad it did end up with quite a lot of bruising. Imagine if it had of been just millimetres closer she could have lost her eye. It happened while I was at work and my husband was no more than a metre away. Jorja stumbled didn't touch the dog but gave him a fright and he lashed out.
  4. Sorry I haven't been back here sooner it has been hard to come to terms with especially since I lost my 14 year old cat the day Bobbie arrived. Iggy mum please don't feel bad for bringing him to me, I feel better knowing he was given his wings in my arms rather than being left to deteriorate in the cold filthy conditions he was living in. Thank you every one for so much support, my family and I revolve our entire lives around our dogs (and our other animals) we do what we feel is best for them even if it means sometimes letting go.
  5. I have not read all posts but I would PTS without question. I have been through this exact scenario. My old poodle boy was my constant companion and the love of my life before kids. To cut a long story short he bit my son on the face as a toddler, I made the mistake of spending a lot of money on a pro behaviourist and put in a lot of hard work to make things right. Everything seemed fine until my daughter came along same thing happened when she was learning to walk but this time things were worse because he was an older dog. The same training methods didn't work and we gave him his wings. I regret not making that decision after the first time. As your bub gets older the dog is likely to get worse, PTS before anything more serious happens, even when we love our dogs children must come first.
  6. A couple more pics of Bobbi, he wont be forgotten. Chillin' in the cow bed. Relaxing on my bed.
  7. A few pics in memory of Bobbi. Enjoying a good meal with the other dogs. Giving my daughter a kiss while we were trying to play cards. Resting on hubby's lap.
  8. I thought I better give everyone an update, sadly Bobbi was in much worse condition than we thought and he was PTS peacefully in my arms. His heart was very bad and as soon as he would do any form of exercise he was having seizures, that included just playing at home with the other dogs. The vets think he probably hadn't done any running around in some time so the seizures and heart wouldn't have been as noticeable, unfortunately his condition was too far along for treatment. I am angry and disgusted at his owners, how could they have left him in such a state and not even get vet care, then throw him away like he was nothing. His last two weeks was spent in comfort sleeping in our bed, having good meals and plenty of cuddles. I have felt quite down about the whole situation and will no longer be rescuing (at least not for some time). Thankyou again iggy mum for helping both dogs, neither deserved to be where they were. I'm just sorry I haven't got a better outcome.
  9. I bought my evening primrose oil from the chemist, it comes in little capsules I cut the top off and divide them between the dogs. The coconut oil I get from the health food store.
  10. We use it a once a week and they get evening primrose oil every night. All of my dogs coats are thick and healthy and Graysons skin and coat has improved dramatically since he arrived three months ago. I also rub it into their skin if they're itchy.
  11. I wouldn't call sacrifice because I get more enjoyment out of my dogs and the other animals than I do anything else but we do revolve our life around them and sometimes that makes things hard. At 19 I rescued my first poodle, because of his epilepsy I had to be able to medicate him twice a day at the exact same time or he would have seizures so I rarely went anywhere without him, he taught me a lot about responsibility. I gave up a lot for a young person, just so I knew he safe and happy. We live a comfortable life but we could of had a lot more of the mortgage paid off if we didn't rescue or have so many. In 18 years my husband and I have only been away twice,3 days at a time and we have taken two or three dogs with us. I still don't go out a lot and often turn down invitations because I don't like leaving the dogs alone for any length if time. I work from home so I can spend all day with them.
  12. Lol he's a funny looking poodle. He's already attached himself to my husband and I much to two of my boys disgust. He has worked out how to open the baby gate if it doesnt latch and he sneaks in the laundry to steal the cat food, poor boy has no fat andminimal muscle. He is a bit of a grouchy old man, had a grumble at the vet but was quite happy for me to open his mouth and look in his ear.
  13. Great to hear for Macca. We are happy to look after him my husband actually suggested he stay on here to live out his life.
  14. Bobbie has been to the vets they have estimated his age to be 12 - 13 which is what I thought. He has a grade 4 heart murmur and the vets at this stage think he has had a seizure, now one if his eyes looks slightly smaller than the other. He also has quite a bit of scarring on on eye from a past injury.
  15. Thanks iggy mum strange isn't it after we were discussing epilepsy in dogs when you dropped him off. It wasn't a bad seizure nothing like my old poodle used to get but he lost coordination, stiff back and legs, slightly twisted neck and completely glazed eyes. Only lasted a minute or two then he was back to normal
  16. Another update on Bobbie, looks like he might be an epileptic, we all went for a walk this morning and partway he had a minor seizure, off to the vet tomorrow for a good check up
  17. Hi Bobbi went very well slept on the bed most of the night then hopped down into one of the dog beds on the floor. He ate dinner fine and this morning had a good breakfast. He hasn't let me out of his sight and had a little cry when I was grooming a customers dog this morning because he could see me but could reach me.
  18. Here are a couple of pics of Bobbi today for anyone interested. Poor boy was covered in fleas, he is so itchy and his skin is so red other than that he is in pretty good shape. Pic 1: Meeting a couple of our gang (before his bath) Pic 2: After his bath saying hello to my son. Edited to add: having a good look at him I think he might be a tibetan spaniel x pap
  19. I just want to say a huge thank you to iggy mum for going so much out of her way to help both these dogs. The little papx is coming to me on fri, I will post pics once he's arrived and settled in.
  20. Don't feel guilty for not bonding with your girl, it could be personality or bad timing but either way it's not your fault. We had the same situation with my first standard poodle, neither my husband or I could take to her not really sure why. We stuck it out until she was nearly 2 (I think) and I finally decided to rehome her to a wonderful couple with another Standard and an Airedale. They adored her and have given her a great life something I struggled to do.
  21. Yet another typical vet thinks they know everything but don't want to listen to their clients. My old poodle was desexed at 11months all went well no complications but a bit of redness and swelling. At 3 1/2 she started to become incontinent while sleeping, not long after the infections started. For 5 years we went through hell, we tried every incontinence medication on the market, she was on and off antibiotics continuously in that time to the point they stopped working, we had phone consults with specialists from overseas, every vet in the clinic had tried to work out what was wrong, we were so close to euthanising when a new vet in the clinic did an ultrasound and found a 'stump pyometra' She went straight under and the vets found she had not been desexed properly, an inch too much of what should have been removed had been left behind and was continually getting infected. Sorry for the long post but don't assume because it is routine surgery and no problem can been seen on the outside, that there is nothing wrong. I spent so many years having vets tell me I was mad and over reacting and if I hadn't pursued it my girl wouldn't be here at 12 years old fit and healthy.
  22. Poor girl she is gorgeous. She looks very uncomfortable and exhausted, this does not sound normal at all for any breed.
  23. I'm sorry but I don't believe dogs put on an act and pretend to be in pain, even if they are being a sook for them it is real.
  24. Absolute rubbish about spoiling her, I have only once had a dog react so bad to desexing and he was a dog with very little pain tolerance, took him back to the vet the next day for pain relief and he came good. Speying is major surgery and owners often forget because its all done so routinely.
