OSoSwift it's nice to know there are some good people out there in the animal industry. Unfortunately I know of too many bad things that happen even if only minor, to ever risk my guys in someone else's hands. If I went away and something went wrong I would never forgive myself and I know I would be out for blood. Probably the reason why my husband and I have only been away twice for three days at a time in 18 years even then we took dogs with us.

Horse Cruelty. Horrible Woman
Rascalmyshadow replied to Kirislin's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
I couldn't watch it all, there are some people in this world that should never be born. -
Good reason why my dogs will never stay in kennels. What a horrific end to a valued family member, sad for all involved. Hope the kennel staff/owners learn their lesson.

Question Regarding Dog Attacks
Rascalmyshadow replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think dogs that attack other dogs are a serious problem and should be dealt with accordingly and if they have killed or done serious damage to another dog should be PTS without question. Dogs that will chase or harm other animals I think is slightly different mainly because many breeds were bred for that purpose. My old mini poodle even having very little eyesight and arthritis in both back legs due to cruciate surgeries is still obsessed and would quite happily kill any rabbit/guinea pig she came across, yet with dogs, cats, ducks, ferrets she is friendly and social. I think the real grey area is dogs that chase/harm cats, I think a dog that chases a cat should be managed properly and be kept well away from them in the future, a dog that kills a cat (in public not the dogs yard) should have the same outcome as a dog that has killed another dog. -

Pomeranian Having Trouble Breathing

They are both the most adorable little dogs!!! It so nice to see these guys being given a second chance. Best wishes I hope he makes a quick recovery. -
Four of other dogs are also fine on it and I haven't seen them scratching or anything else weird. My other poodle (foster failure) had major skin allergies, infected ears/feet and rotten teeth when he arrived, he gets no dry food at all but we have managed to stop all his problems by feeding Prime roo and potato (roll) and raw chicken necks, wings and meaty bones.

Sounds like its going to be scary just to take our dogs for a walk. Seems Mr Walsh is peeved that so called pitbull owners are winning court cases.

What did the stupid cop think was going to happen? Maybe thought he could get away with it but luck wasn't on his side when someone filmed it. I feel very sorry for his family, if he was my other half the relationship would be over, even my husband agrees. I'm glad there are plenty of people out there standing up for the general publics rights, it's the only way things get changed and progress is made.

Have used earthborn a lot with excellent results. Interesting your posting about supercoat because I bought two big bags a few weeks ago and suddenly my old poodle had itchy ears and feet, something she hasn't had in years. I stopped giving it to her a few days ago and she's back to normal.

Honestly don't really care what these cops get called they were out of line and deserve everything that comes their way. I have a lot of respect for good cops they have a job that would never want to do. Hopefully you can now get off my case!

I never called them pigs, read my post properly! I said no wonder they do get called pigs.
-
Uncalled for? Definitely not! That cop abused his power for no reason, he egged the dog on then shot it and left it to die in agony. The dogs owner had broken no laws. I would like to see the cop charged with animal cruelty and preferably have his badge taken away for good. There is no place for arrogant yahoos with badges, they are supposed to be there to protect not abuse.

No wonder people refer to them as 'pigs' absolutely disgusting. Hope karma comes their way.

The Scandal Of Marketing Purebred Dogs
Rascalmyshadow replied to Podengo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with a breeder getting as much info from a puppy buyer as possible, it is the same thing I do when letting go of a rescue dog, the problem is the approach many breeders take is unfriendly and often outright rude. Instead of using it as a chance to educate a potential owner they steer them away from breeders for good, the potential new puppy owner then goes on to tell their friends and the viscous cycle begins. -
The Scandal Of Marketing Purebred Dogs
Rascalmyshadow replied to Podengo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I never suggested selling puppies cheap! But $2500 for a dog from a breeder compared with $1000 from a pet store/byb is a huge difference. I don't advocate pet stores selling pups at all and would quite happily see the lot closed for good. The general public doesn't always understand why it's a problem, especially when they are treated rudely by breeders but can quite comfortably go into a pet store/byb and have a good experience. I believe in ethical breeding but have met quite a few so called registered breeders that do far from that. I will happily support the ones doing the right thing. If breeders aren't willing to get out there and educate the general public in a friendly and approachable manor then it's on their shoulders when Joe Blow goes elsewhere to obtain there new puppy. -
The Scandal Of Marketing Purebred Dogs
Rascalmyshadow replied to Podengo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great post, I'm not a breeder and never have been but I am a consumer. Having worked with dogs for the last 18 years and having at least one purebred in the house at any given time for the last 16years, I still find looking for a pedigree dog quite daunting, especially if it isn't my chosen breed. Breeders need to become friendlier, easier to approach and find and more willing to treat everyone as individuals. My example two years ago we were looking for a purebred Pomeranian, went through DOL breed pages and rang/emailed (depending on the breeders preference) numerous breeders with puppies available, only one breeder got back to me and we were told they don't home their puppies to people with children. End result we purchased a gorgeous pom x chi puppy from a lovely family that had allowed their dogs to have one litter. Just recently my husband agreed I could finally get my purebred chi as I am no longer rescuing. I felt sick just applying for my pup of choice and thought for sure we would be turned down due to having kids. Luckily my girls breeder was a much more approachable person and my pup had actually been shown by her 10 year old son, she is the most gorgeous girl and we have had a great experience this time round. The only way ethical registered breeders are going to be able to compete with byb's, pet shops and puppy farms is if they advertise where the public looks, keep their dogs at a reasonable price, make every potential puppy buyers experience a good one and mostly give the public good reasons for buying a purebred. The majority of customers I speak to go for xbreeds because they 'don't want a show dog' and don't see any need to spend big $$$ getting one from a breeder. -
Dogs Currently On Trial In Vic

Dougie just won his hearing and is going home!!! :D -
Don't think for a minute you have to justify your actions to anybody. Do what's best for yourself and your baby. IMO it would be negligent as a parent to keep a dog you know is a danger to your child in the same house together even if there are ways of separating them.

Rocket has won his court case and is now going home! :D -
I have also found the above breeds to be quite vocal. Not sure but what about a Japanese spitz they might be a better option.

Years ago one of the locals around here had his gorgeous old sed attacked by a couple of dogs, it had severe injuries and was forced to retire. Poor man was devastated so was our whole community. He did end up getting another one but I imagine it would make you paranoid just leaving the house.

Too Far You Have Taken This Dog Grooming.
Rascalmyshadow replied to MrsD's topic in General Dog Discussion
If its being implied that I'm not professional then I'm quite upset. I have been a professional groomer for 18 years and the comfort of the dog is my number one priority, probably the reason so many clients tell me how happy their dogs are compared to when they've been to other groomers. If I have had to do a 2 or 3 hour groom on a dog then I work on the floor and let the dog sit or lie down for as much time as possible. -

Do people here actually read posts properly. I have owned poodles for the last 15 years including standards, yeah they enjoyed the attention but I never made them stand on a table for more than an hour without a break. Dogs do what owners want they are an animal that likes to please still doesn't make it right. -
Too Far You Have Taken This Dog Grooming.
Rascalmyshadow replied to MrsD's topic in General Dog Discussion
A couple of the dogs look stressed and the one with the Madagascar theme looks frightened if you look closely at its stance. I think a lot of breeders/exhibitors are ridiculous with what they put their dogs through. Grooming should be there for comfort, seeing dogs harnessed up for hours on a table is awful.
