One If My Dogs Has Been Hospitalised
Rascalmyshadow replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
This mornings news is not as positive, so far he has been improving a little. This morning he vomited again and his bloods were not as good. The vets are going to do a blood transfusion in the next couple of hours. I feel so flat, I don't want to lose him and the vet bills are mounting so fast.... -
Adverse Reactions To C4 Vaccinations
Rascalmyshadow replied to waynem1966's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have had 3 dogs react badly to the c4, I won't ever use it again! c3 and no kennel cough vacc would be the way I'd be going. -

Early Morning Tranquility Shattered
Rascalmyshadow replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
You poor thing I hope you are both feeling a little better in the morning. I would go and have her checked by a Chiro, my old poodle had a bulging disc in her neck, the vet missed it but the Chiro picked it up immediately, luckily he did because we had to change her medication. -

I am upset with my neighbour for doing the wrong thing but I am also at fault for not making sure my dog was vaccinated. His family is upset with him and so are some of the other neighbours, I don't think he'll be a repeat offender. They are actually normally very good neighbours/people as awful as it all is I don't want to make anyone's life harder because then I will feel more guilty. -

More good news Astro has stopped vomiting, stools are slowly becoming firmer but still containing a small amount of blood. They were going to try to start hand feeding him this afternoon. If all goes well he should be home on Wednesday at the latest. I haven't seen him since Thursday and I'm starting to really miss him, the house seems so quiet because he's usually the life of the party. Here's my gorgeous boy. -
I'm In Shock My Next Door Neighbours Puppy
Rascalmyshadow replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have informed them what we are dealing with, I spoke to the son and daughter that live at home, my husband had a few very stern words with the father. The problem was the kids were away from home over the weekend they spoke with their dad over the phone and he said she would be fine, apparently he spoke with a vet friend on the phone and he just told them to feed chicken and rice for a few days but when I saw her on the Fri she already looked like a walking skeleton, she didn't look like that a few days before. -

Confirmed parvo, one of my dogs has now got it and is at the vets being treated. Will call the council tomorrow in regards to the body. -

Good news Astro has improved a little, apparently he came out of the cage a gave a small tail wag, he just needs to eat without vomiting. Hopefully he's home by Monday, because its Parvo the vets prefer us not to visit, he's only been away from me twice for desexing and a dental and that was a few hours. I'm a nervous wreck, I am not good at waiting at the best of times and I am so paranoid watching the other dogs for signs, I am getting edgy if they just make a funny face. -

Thanks I spoke with 3 vet clinics, 2 pet shops and 2 produce stores and they all told me it was a vet only product. Ok I am getting nervous I rang the vets and the nurse said someone will call me back. -

I am nervous about calling the vet this morning hopefully it will be good news. F10 can only be obtained through a vet clinic or if you have an ABN. It kills Parvo, kennel cough etc and can be used on soft furnishing where bleach can't be used. The vet I used to work uses it everyday to clean as a precaution. -

Update: Astro is doing ok the vomiting has stopped he has no blood in his vomit or diarrhoea, he is not eating and still flat but the vets are happy with his progress so far. He is in overnight and hopefully we will have him home in a few days if all goes well. I have bleached the house and will have some F10 on Monday so all soft beds and furnishings can also be done. The vet bill will be a lot but at the moment affordable unless he needs to go to the emergency centre for overnight care or blood transfusions. -

Thank you so much to everyone that had replied, I am trying to have positive thoughts but I groom from home and have another 5 weeks until I move my business into the vet I go to, I have had to cancel numerous dogs and wash every surface with bleach and F10. I can't afford the lost wages as the vet bill is already high and going to keep going up, my kids birthdays are Sunday and Monday, we've had to cancel all of that. It's a complete disaster. -

Ok I'm going to get flamed but all this time I thought he was vaccinated he wasn't. When I worked at the vet I thought he had his vaccine done when he was desexed, because I worked there I never bothered with vaccination cards I just left the info on the computer and didn't think to check it. I rang them this morning and found out there is no record on the system. He is only two and at 2.7kgs he can't afford to lose weight. I am so upset with my neighbour my husband has had words with him, I can't face him because I will lose it. My dogs are everything to me and I've made a huge mistake that could cost my dog his life. -

Thank you all it is confirmed parvovirus but the symptoms are not exactly the same as usually seen. The vets think he will pull though as long as we keep up the care -

My husband buried the pup and I hadlex her everything happened so quick I didn't think about it until later, I did wash my hand etc but never thought about the rest. We might have just put all of our dogs at risk. Apparently the vet I used to work at lost a pup last week with the same symptoms and apparently there was an article in the mornington local paper about dogs dying from bacterial/viral infections lately but it's not our paper so I haven't read it -
I recently posted about my neighbours puppy dying in front of me on Australia Day, now it looks like Astro my pom x chi has caught whatever their dog had, the vets aren't sure if its viral or bacterial. He spent all day on a drip yesterday, they pumped him full if fluids, pain relief, antibiotics and anti nausea meds, we took him home last night but he went downhill and is now back on a drip. I have a horrible gut feeling he's not going to pull through, our little chihuahua his best friend is upset, she always refuses a walk unless he's with her.

Unfortunately our girl has been through a lot in her life, she has had torn cruciates in both back legs, stump pyometra which caused 5 years worth of infections before she was diagnosed, she is on Incurin for incontinence, meds for her arthritis, recently she had a fall off the bed during the night and slipped a disc in her neck, she doesn't concentrate her urine properly (cause unknown) and to top it all off she has PRA so very minimal eyesight left and her hearing isn't great. But even with all that she has remained a gorgeous happy girl and I hope to see her make at least 15 but she has aged dramatically in the last few months. Edited to add my husband and I don't regret spending every cent on her, even though she's the oldest in our house I still see the young puppy she once was.

Beautiful photos the oldies look so dignified. Here's our old girl Bella in her prime, she'll be 13 in April. A couple of months ago.

Paw Nutriderm Shampoo Or Dr Zoo's Shampoo
Rascalmyshadow replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Paw Nutriderm is what I use on one of my sensitive dogs, although he doesn't have any skin issues he will still react to some shampoos. IMO it is better and gentler than Aloveen. -

At the moment I feel very numb about the whole thing, I can't get my head around someone denying such an innocent baby medical attention. I will be having words when we cross paths and I will go from there. The kids are grown adults and will now see their father for what he really is, nothing I do will be a better punishment. -

Rascalmyshadow replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the replies, we babysat her for 4 days after Xmas and she was so gorgeous. Their daughter who's is around 20 is devastated as her dad told her not to worry the dog would be fine, she arrived home to find the dog unconscious and gasping. I believe she had swallowed something and had an obstruction, her symptoms didn't look like parvovirus,or anything similar. I am just so angry because the father is a pastor and has the guts to preach his garbage but will then let an innocent puppy suffer and die all because of money. -
My next door neighbour just knocked on the door to get me to check their puppy, she was lying on her blanket surrounded by flies. She took her last breaths before I had a chance to do anything. I'm so upset I told the dad on Fri to get her to the vet as she looked very unwell and of course he didn't listen!!!!!! Edited to add: This is Leena, not a very good pic but its the only one I have. She was curled up in my lap with Rascal.

You will need medicated drops but once the infection is gone use the Malaseb wash onc e a week to avoid getting any infections back, has always worked well for me.
