Lots of my grooming customers won't have boys because they think they are unclean. We have 3 boys 1 girl, I would never have more than one girl in my house again too much bitchyness. I have also owned two girls that have cocked their legs.

Thought I Would Introduce Our New Man
Rascalmyshadow replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
Airedaler we decided to go with Sit Happens, I liked they way it's runs all positive and no letting all the puppies free play together. For me it's mostly a refresher. I am glad to have another poodle but after all the medical problems over the years with my old girl, losing my standard girl because of serious aggression issues (which I found out is well known in her lines) and grooming/rescuing many other poodles with issues I was so scared to get another one but Hugo is everything I was hoping for. -
My husband and I said when we lost our old poodle at the beginning of the year we wouldn't have another one, but after living with them (and rescuing) for the last 17 years we started to feel incomplete without one. So we are now the very happy owners of Hugo a gorgeous black baby toy poodle. He arrived on Sunday from Queensland, I am so pleased with him. He has a fabulous temperament, very confident and outgoing. Started puppy school on Wednesday night he was the smallest there but did exceptionally well. I had forgotten what its like to have a baby puppy in the house since the other three dogs weren't so young when we adopted them. With his Wubba. Asking for a belly rub.

Try d&d pet food 3a Apsley pl Seaford they have a lot of raw meats, bones, dry food etc and as far as I know they do free delivery. -
I have noticed the same thing, we got our short haired girl about 18 months ago, it took me ages to find one with a nice apple head. I really don't like the racey look to me they don't look like true chihuahuas.

Which Breed Was Your First Dog?
Rascalmyshadow replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first dog living at home (my heart dog)was a beautiful Doberman named Taran. My mums boss bred the litter but was abusing mum and pups, we took our girl in at 11 weeks after he kicked her in the head with work boots. She was the most frightened puppy I had ever met. We became inseparable. Due to her upbringing she was a difficult dog, she had severe separation anxiety and was extreemly aggressive, even though we socialised her and did one one training with a professional trainer/behaviourist. Certainly wouldn't recommend her for a first timer. My first dog out of home was a tiger brindle pitbull named Raph, he was the easiest most sweetest dog. Would recommend for a first timer as long as the time was put in to training. -
I don't think breed is necessarily the issue more about matching dog to owner. My first dog living out of home was a pitbull I put in a lot of work with him, took him everywhere and he was a perfect dog. Both my best friends first dogs were rotti's and they did very well with them. However I personally wouldn't recommend a poodle for a first time dog owner (except maybe a toy), they are extreemly intelligent and will walk all over someone if they don't know what they are doing. I have groomed more poodles that bite their owners than any other breed. Then there's coat management and health issues on top of that.

Ex Foster Needing A New Home
Rascalmyshadow posted a topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I have just received a call from a couple that adopted a foster toy poodlex from me about six years ago they need to rehome the boy they adopted from me. They have had a baby and the wife is struggling to manage two dogs. This boy's name is Oscar he is about 8 years old and is a black toy poodlex, he has a non shedding curly coat that will require grooming regularly. He has had all vet work done. He can be a bit picky about which dogs he gets along with would probably do best with a small female companion. He is also most suited to a reasonably active home with no young children, teenagers would be fine. Anyone interested please PM me and I can get anymore details necessary. -
Dogs That Stress Out Over Mail Clipping

Another trick to desensitising feet is gently brushing them with an electric toothbrush while rewarding her for calm behaviour. -
Dogs That Stress Out Over Mail Clipping
Rascalmyshadow replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am the same as GrufLife I have desensitised many dogs over the years with nail clipping and all other parts of grooming. Many dogs I were told impossible to do by vets, owners and other groomers. If she is that bad you could speak to the vet about valium or something similar but slowly lessen the dosage over time, this is what we would do when I worked in the vet, eventually I have been able to wean most dogs off it altogether. Also don't use guillotine style nail cutters they tend to squash the nail before they cut. Make sure she relaxes before trying do each nail. Don't try to cut while she's freaking out because that's all she will remember and you won't see any improvement. -
Thanks for the replies I can't go on Saturdays so I think il look into Kingston vet first. Realised I can do puppy class on a wed night through Sit Happens, have left a message hopefully il get a call back today

Without going into too much detail on here I was very good friends with Jenny,I did her classes with a couple if my dogs and always groomed her dogs but after almost 20 years of grooming I am physically unable to do them anymore they are too heavy, so she cracked it with me and has deleted me off facebook etc. so I won't be going to PAW behaviour, that's why I don't know where to go.

Do You Love One Breed But Not Love A Similar Breed?
Rascalmyshadow replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love pitbulls and would certainly have another but I have no interest in Staffordshires or amstaffs (even though they are both cute). I also love poodles but have no interest in other curly coated breeds. -
Disgusting but not surprising, I rescued 4 poodles a few years ago from a registered breeder, the RSPCA and council were involved also, they counted 50+ dogs but couldn't get an exact number, all on a standard suburban block. Many of the dogs were in terrible condition I spent around $1200 cost price (I was working in a vet clinic) just to get them all healthy. I have never seen anything like it, the males were peeing all over their bedding, food bowls, walls and each other. The females with pups were constantly fighting with each other and I had to leave behind a gorgeous old girl with full cataracts because all four boys were entire (one was cryptorcid, had been born there and had never in his 5 years left the the property). She was ordered to remove all but 20 from the property but could still continue to breed, a lot of them got sold off on breeders terms. She is still registered with Dogs Vic and advertises pups and older dogs.

Just A Vent About Numpty Owners And Off Leash Dogs.
Rascalmyshadow replied to Malakita's topic in General Dog Discussion
If anyone wants to see a large amount of off leash dogs generally behaving quite well go to Dendy park in Brighton, some days there could be 30-40 dogs and its amazing watching them socialise and everybody actually doing the right thing. The times we have gone there I've never had or seen a problem (although I imagine there sometimes is) majority of the dogs I used to groom would go there. -
Perhaps they may not be a suitable choice, I haven't been able to safely have rabbits or chooks I in so many years I don't want to risk the animals we already have.
-
Thank you for the replies, cc your cresties are very cute so is your kitty. My dogs chase wild birds and possums, and also play chasy with the cats, Rascal helps me get Honey the angora rabbit back into her enclosure each night by nudging her bum, we have had the bantam chicks running freely around the yard since they were 4 1/2 weeks old and the dogs never bother them even when chasing pigeons. What I don't want is a breed like the poodles where most of them have high prey drive even if exposed to small animals a young age, it's the main reason Im not getting another one.

Just A Vent About Numpty Owners And Off Leash Dogs.
Rascalmyshadow replied to Malakita's topic in General Dog Discussion
I live on the Mornington Peninsula and rarely have a problem with dogs running up. There are certain areas that are technically on leash but most dogs owners let them off, 95% of them are well controlled and put on leash as soon as they see another person or dog. This I don't mind because everyone is respectful. Just to add: the rangers down here are very strict about dogs being off leash on the beaches, they are always around even in the middle of winter. -
Can anyone that owns or has owned cresties tell a little bit about what they are usually like with other animals. I know I can read plenty of info on the net but I would like some first hand information. Are they a breed that tends to want to chase? I am considering adding one to our family but I have bunnies and chooks (including bantams) that free range most of the day, our three dogs are very gentle and don't chase or hurt any of them.

Anbody Ever Had A Dog With A Broken Toe?
Rascalmyshadow replied to DesertDobes's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Years ago our first toy poodle broke a middle toe, vet bandaged and splinted it, healed fine. Maybe a heavier dog would have more issues.
