  1. A couple of my dogs are not big fans of plain dry food so I soak it in boling water then add sardines, egg, grated cheese etc. never had one of them refuse it.
  2. If the place has good air con he should be fine, unless he's getting clipped really short he will need to be blow dried, I would myself just go a quick dry with the force drier leave to air dry then another quick fluff up, that will straighten out his coat with over heating.
  3. Our five get Canidae dry (as well as tinned and bones etc) and they are all doing exceptionally well on it, so far the best dry food I've ever used.
  4. Oatmeal conditioner is fine after using Mediderm or Malaseb, it is soothing and helps put moisture back into the skin. I personally prefer Aloveen conditioner, I don't really like Fido's products.
  5. Not good enough outcome! No dog should ever be cage dried, those dogs would have suffered and been in horrific pain. The guy should never be allowed to work with or own animals again. I work one on one, do not ever tether dogs on tables or put them in cages/crates. As soon as I finish a dog it is put straight on the floor with access to my entire room, an off ground flea free snooza bed and a fresh bowl of water. I have just started maternity leave and these stories make me so worried about my clients going else where.
  6. Jesus I have kids as well and are very protective over them however I still think the kid has put her hand where it didn't belong and the dog owners had their dogs contained properly and legally on their property. Any breed including my 2kg chi can damage tendons in a small child enough to cause serious damage. A few years ago a child lost their hand from being seriously bitten by the families pet ferret.
  7. The original story said the doctors had to amputate the arm due to damage, it didn't say the dog had severed the arm. I know how close my husband came to losing his hand as a kid after he accidently severed a tendon in his wrist, he had multiple surgeries to repair the damage.
  8. As horrific as it all is I'm finding it hard to believe the dog was eating her arm, I imagine if that was the truth the kid would have passed out. More likely nerves and tendons were damaged and the arm had to to be amputated. Don't trust the media is reporting the truth they will do anything to sell a story. There's no way I would PTS multiple dogs in the given situation.
  9. The story is not making sense compared to the original story and pics. I'm guessing the dog is still alive because the media is not giving is all the true facts and I'm assuming it wasn't found to be a risk, somehow I think there is a bit more to the story.
  10. I have put vinyl (Lino) down in my grooming room and it's awsome, it is a floorboard look and textured so even when it's wet it's not slippery. We love it so much we are pulling up our floating floorboards in the loungeroom and puting it in there as well.
  11. Poodles love chasey they are not a breed to want to wrestle, generally they keep up quite well with whippets but would probably have a bit more stamina. I wouldn't go for a toy poodle if you are considering the breed as they are a lot more delicate than the minis. I would also advise to stick with blacks I'd you are looking at poodles, they generally are better quality and have the most stable temperaments.
  12. Always the same typical over reaction and the minority ruin it for the majority!
  13. A mini poodle kept short would be ideal or I would look into a mini pinscher.
  14. Claudia our chi dislikes all our guests except my mum, brother and my kids two best friends. Don't know why. We adopted her at 8months old, she was an ex show dog, perhaps she wasn't socialised properly early on, she is a very confident dog and nothing bad has happened to her here.
  15. Why is it when we were kids if a dog snapped or bit someone the first response was 'what did you do to cause it' not 'its a bad dog lets ban them from everywhere'. As kids we very quickly learnt our actions had consequences especially dealing with dogs and other animals, if we had approached an unfamiliar dog and got injured we would have been in big trouble.
  16. Sounds very similar to a situation with my oldest dog, years ago my kids were fighting over something, I raised my voice and stormed through the house but didn't look down and accidentally kicked a dog bowl into the cupboard door causing it to crash and break, also didn't realise my boy was following behind me. From that day my bombproof dog became noise phobic, it's been around 4-4 1/2 years and he is still worried by certain sounds.
  17. If the child was bitten on the knee it was obviously facing the dog not walking away, if the dog felt threatened it probably reacted either before the child touched it or after it pulled its hand away, clearly a sign of a frightened dog.
  18. According to reports the child tried to pat the dog, likely over the top of its head or directly towards its face, very threatening especially for a small dog. No different to pushing a younger child. Why can't people teach their kids to keep their hands off other people's kids, dogs and property. I have raised my voice to the odd child while out walking thinking they can touch my dogs without asking, I have also given a mother a mouthful for letting her feral little kid put their hands into the pram and touch my daughter when she was about 4-5 weeks old. Really not fair to be put in the position to discipline other people's kids.
  19. To those that think the child is not at fault, how would you feel if you were happily walking along with your two year old toddler and an older child (let's say a 4 or 5 year old) came up from behind and pushed them over or did something else threatening, would you then blame the parents for not having their kid under effective control or would would you believe both kids are at fault.
  20. I think it's a great idea allowing dogs in more places, as a teenager my APBT went everywhere woth me on the train in the city, many shop owners knew him well and it made for a very social dog. So many stupid laws and regulations have created the mess we now have. As for the child getting bitten maybe parents should control their kids a little better and teach them to stay away from unknown dogs, why should dog owners continually have to be on the lookout for rogue kids? Both my kids by three years old had been taught not to approach any dog they didn't know and if an owner said it was ok I would approach the dog just to make sure first. I hope this doesn't ruin it for everyone else.
  21. Possibly a luxating patella, often the dogs will stretch the leg out when getting up to put the knee back in place. I would definately get it checked out and see a Chiro if possible.
  22. If a double coat is to be clipped the best option is to leave about an inch on all over (shorter on the belly and chest), takes away a lot of the thickness and helps keep them cool but leaves enough to protect from direct sun.
  23. I have clipped many doubled coated dogs over the 20 years I've been grooming, some grow back fine some don't, I have found that older dogs and breeds such as Keeshonds, Samoyeds, Poms and Pekes to be the worst for growing back a crappy coat. While I personally wouldn't do it to my own double coated dog I have noticed the dogs are a lot happier and cooler once clipped back (not shaved to the skin) and it is better than a dog with matts and a ton of undercoat.
