  1. Showdog I actually find you rude and obnoxious, I didn't ask for anyone's opinion on if I should rehome any dogs or about my lifestyle, it may not even need to happen and I've had a multi dog house for almost 20 years its not anything new. The house was just manageable without the extra child, oh and if I had a crystal ball I would have bought a bigger house before all this happened. Bungalow etc is also not an option it's not just the extra bedroom we need, plus we would have to pull down brand new fences and reconfigure the entire backyard which means chopping down trees.
  2. I am also sensitive to too much loud noise and constant barking is something that I can't stand, especially really high pitched barks, if the dogs are being too noisy in the yard they are told to come in and I close the door. My reason for wanting a bigger block is the so there is more space between neighbours and more trees/shrubs can be planted to buffer any barking.
  3. Seriously??? Your obviously a pretty nasty person in real life. Maybe I should have terminated the pregnancy and we could have gone on our merry way, would that have made you happier? We have spent the last 20 years puting our dogs first, even before buying this house we rented crap places just to have our dogs, even now majority of our life revolves around them, I have even kept doing a job that's physically damaging so I don't have to leave them at home all day alone. We could have paid our house off if we never had any animals or did so much rescue work so don't dare criticise me for the direction my life is taking.
  4. This is a possibility although the chances of staying under the same council are pretty slim. I do have a way of keeping all the dogs registered and trying for a three dog permit but if I had any nasty neighbours we still could end up having to rehome. Chloe is quite vocal although I don't allow her to bark continuously and she gets crated during the night, I have never had a dog that likes the sound of its voice so much, she is just over 2kg and barks to play, for my attention, if the cats stare at her, if she finds a bug sometimes even at ants??? and often partway of our walks, I would hate to think in the wrong hands just how bad she could be. Here's a pic of all of them lounging around the decking, they are all so different and special in their own ways.
  5. Thanks for so much input we thought we'd be in this house for many years to come never expecting to have anymore kids, had I known I wouldn't have got the last two dogs. Unfortunately we are limited to how far we can move due to both our jobs. I have my own business grooming and many clients I'm on their second and third generation of dogs, my husband loves his job and works for our best mate so very handy when there's kids to think about. I guess we will look for the biggest block we can afford ( still would be less than an acre) and hopefully be able to get away with having all the dogs it just depends on what council it is.
  6. The two breeds you've picked are a great combination but they both require a fair bit of training especially as young dogs, as others have suggested I would wait til your first dog is 12-18months old then introduce a pup. We have 5 dogs and now 3 kids, my two youngest dogs are only about 6 months apart it made toilet training very difficult and I wouldn't do it again.
  7. My dogs are Rascal 7years ( I would never let him go he's our only foster failure) Astro turning 5 (he wouldn't leave my side while pregnant) Claudia turning 4 (she is my princess and probably also my kids favourite so we couldn't let her go) Hugo the poodle ( naughty but very bonded to myself and my daughter) Chloe just turned 1 (I love living with this girl she is loud and spunky, just had patella surgery and I can't imagine her not in our lives, also due to her being such a barker she could potentially end up going from home to home)
  8. We were looking at rehoming our poodle his breeder found a suitable home but at the last minute they decided they wanted a puppy, my daughter was born two weeks early so everything happened at once. When I came home with my daughter he was the one that bonded to her instantly so we've been trying to make it all work. My hopes are we can find a place and not have to give anyone up however most councils won't allow 5 dogs and even if we stayed with the same council different area I would have to get all the surrounding neighbours signatures. We have considered building a brand new house and applying for the permit while there were minimal neighbours but the only places locally we would consider are both cat free estates so I would have to give up our cats so still a huge dilemma.
  9. At the moment my husband and I are discussing the possibility of selling up and moving house, our house is quite small and having a third child has just made it that much worse. Our biggest concern is the fact we have five dogs, where we are now it's never been a problem, I have lived in this house since 1997 (did move out for a bit as a teenager) and know all the neighbours extremely well, which meant they were all happy to sign the paperwork for us to get an excess dog permit. Now this scenario got me thinking if you had to move house and were forced to give up any of your dogs (of course this would be a last resort) how would you chose which ones? Would you pick based on the ones you had first, the ones you have the strongest bond with, the ones that had the strongest bond amongst each other or the ones that were the most rehomable? Any other thoughts? Please don't jump to the conclusion we are about to give up our dogs and we can't extend this house to stay where we are.
  10. Sorry not sure what page she has put it on, the dog has been spotted on Thompsons rd near the gun club this morning, someone tried to catch her but she took off. Poor girl must be exhausted.
  11. I know this is a long shot and I hope it's ok to post this here. Last night I received a call from and very good friend, her and her partner are building a house and they have had to leave their two boston terriers with a friend that lives around the corner from me, the friend got home from work yesterday to find their gate partially open and the female boston gone (my friend just happened to take her boy to work yesterday) their own lab was still there but the gate wasn't open enough for it to get out. I'm trying to get the word out in as many places as possible, my friend (and others)have posted the dogs pic all over facebook, she has called all the local vets/pound/shelters, put notices with pic all over my area including along the walking tracks, as well as dropping them in letterboxes in the street the dog went missing from. I spent a couple of hours this morning walking the local area with my own dogs and have sent numerous messages to people I know that live locally. my friend is a mess they don't have children yet and the two dogs are their life. The dog is microchipped (checked it was scanning properly only a couple of weeks ago)and desexed, she was wearing a collar and tag with my friends number on it so its a bit of a worry if someone has picked her up that they haven't called. Here's a couple of pics, she went missing from Seaford, Victoria yesterday after lunch sometime. If anyone has any information or any suggestions please let me know.
  12. Has she had an ultrasound done, we went through this with my old poodle girl for 5 1/2 years, incontinance meds didn't work and it lead to numerous infections, she spent years on and off antibiotics stupid vets thought I was a hypochondriac, until they did an ultrasound and found a stump pyometra. The vet that desexed her had left an inch too much, they went in and re did the spay and she didn't have anymore issues until the last couple of weeks of her life.
  13. I would get the vet to check a urine sample he might have an infection although less common in males it is still possible.
  14. Wow what a disgrace looks like a badly bred dog from a byb. It's back legs look like they have either patella or hip problems or both, and there is no words to describe those huge jowels.
  15. Poodles are naturally very clingy dogs at the best of times, I wouldn't be leaving your dog alone for more than an hour or two with the health problems it has. I would be setting up a large puppy pen with everything in it so there is less chance of your dog becoming disorientated and not being able to locate water bowls etc when you go out.
  16. I highly recommend Harry Corbett he's at 330 Canterbury rd Bayswater, I was referred there for one of my dogs patella surgeries and I have been very impressed.
  17. Hi have just seen this post, we had similar problems with our last foster dog, I would suggest getting allergy testing done ASAP, once a positive reaction is found they can then make up specific injections to desensitise your dog. Our foster boy turned out to be allergic to dust mites, dropped mosquito wings, his own yeast and fleas. I would also suggest weekly baths, dogs with allergies do better being washed often, try using PAW Nutriderm shampoo and conditioner. My oldest dog only has allergies to fleas, one bite and he goes mad scratching and chewing until he gets a couple of days of cortisone.
  18. I don't know anything about assistance dogs but I know there aren't a lot of pure Maltese around, have you considered a long/short haired chihuahua they are very smart and trainable but love nothing more than cuddling up on a lap or in bed, they are generally quite happy to play games in the house/yard without being demanding of walks.
  19. Oh no I was there not long ago and didn't realise, I don't know what we're going to do without him, he's been a lifesaver and fixed numerous problems the normal vets couldn't.
  20. Barry Haywood in Cranbourne is awesome (hopefully its not him retiring) we've been taking our dogs to him for years with excellent results.
  21. I would go with Animal House or Pure Paws both are very good, I know a lot of people suggest Fido's but I would stay away from it, it contains nasty chemicals.
  22. Claudia always seemed to pee in the same spot in the lounge room (luckily we don't have carpet) so I put the toilet in that spot so she automatically used it, a couple of times I saw her about to go somewhere else I just picked her up and put her on it. Chi's are smart little dogs just do the same thing as you would if you were taking him/her to a certain spot outside, remember to reward if you see the toilet being used.
  23. We made our indoor toilet, we used a large kitty litter tray, laid a puppy pee pad in the bottom, then put a heavy duty cake cooling rack over the top and covered it with fake grass cut to size. it is very easy to clean just change the puppy pee pad (I only have to do it once a week for the chi no other dogs use it)and wash the fake grass/litter tray with dishwashing liquid and hang to dry, oh and of course remove any poop asap.
  24. Hi I have the same problem, mi little short haired chi is 1.9kg we have tried many jackets, jumpers, coats and pj's she will leave them on when we are out walking but as soon as we get home she does what we call the' crocodile roll' so they spin around and she can get them off, then she will sit and shiver. My solution has been putting beds in front of the heater and leaving it on if its under 20 degrees, she has an open crate full of blankets in our room that she will snuggle into when the heater is off and we leave a couple of big soft blankets on the couch so she can bury herself. Oh and we the weeing in the cold issue, we made an indoor toilet for her and that solved the problem.
