Ever since we got Hugo (toy poodle) as an 8 week old puppy he has regularly vomited, sometimes because he's eaten plastic (he's obsessed with the stuff) other times for no apparent reason. He's been checked out by the vets (examination only) we've tried a few different foods and nothing seems to make a difference. it seems to happen mostly during the night only occasionally through the day. Now we've just layed brand new carpet through the loungeroom and bedrooms and in a week he's vomited in three of the four rooms. any ideas as to what could be the cause? i know it's not his fault but I'm getting over spending so much money just to have stuff ruined.

Hi Barry has retired unfortunately and as far as I know Tony doesn't have a website, however he is very good been seeing him with two of our dogs since Barry left.

Runny Nose ,bleeds, more than allergy now

Sounds like the exact course of drugs our girl was put on, seemed to clear it up at first then it would come back worse until she was sneezing/oozing blood from her nose. -

The vet couldn't really tell what it was until he did the scope, took biopsies and swabs. We had to have it done twice to confirm she was completely clear, also she had her elongated palate trimmed under the second anaesthetic. In total I think we paid $3000. It all cleared up but it did thicken the nasal cavity because it went on too long, normal vet kept treating for allergies which masked the actual problem. -

We went through this with our chihuahua last year, vets thought she had a nasal tumour but it turned out to be a bacterial and fungal infection, I personally would have scopes done asap especially if she still has a runny nose. -
I have noticed recently multiple registered breeders referring to their puppies as 'teacups or teacup size' I thought this was a term breeders or anyone in the purebred dog world did not like, is it ok to use, have things changed, I thought it was something puppy farmers used for marketing.

I Know This Has Probably Been Done To Death...
Rascalmyshadow replied to poochmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Cobberdog breeders don't have huge prices on their pet puppies and cross bred puppies such as labradoodles are selling for much more than theirs are even in pet shops and its a bit rich to be talking about expensive cross breeds when you have some pure breeds from registered breeders selling at 7 thousand dollars plus each on limited register. Every Cobberdog bred here and in any other country is subject to registration and there has never been a pet Cobberdog puppy sold except in Norway where desexing is illegal that has gone out entire and only MDBA members can buy a breeding dog - so no one other than MDBA members can breed them. If we are going to discuss what may push people toward puppy farmers and pet shops etc then its difficult to go past the fact that it's virtually impossible to buy a registered purebred puppy of some breeds due to lack of supply but also because some of the breeders are horrible to deal with. Some grown ups want to make their own choices and simply want to buy a dog without having to go through screening and questioning and having someone else decide whether they will make suitable owners. Just because a minority of people think purebreds are preferable it doesn't mean those who don't automatically become idiots and incapable of making an educated choice that they feel suits their family and lifestyle. Its O.K. to take dogs into your home that come through a rescue that are unpredictable but not to bring a puppy in that you like the look of? Considering this is almost the year 2017 and the ANKC isn't the only Canine registry that has world wide affiliations maybe into the future some breeds who will become recognised will prefer NOT to be under the ANKC umbrella. This: I don't know anything about Cobberdogs so i cant comment but the rest of the entire post is spot on. We have been in the situation 5 years ago where I ended up giving up on registered breeders when we were looking for a Pomeranian pup, I contacted many and either they never replied or the ones that did were very unfriendly and quickly told me we could not have a pup because we had children, even offered them to meet my kids and do a home check, in the end we bought a pom x long haired chi pup (for 1/3 of the price) from a private home, he's turned out a wonderful dog and the whole process was a good experience. If I was completely new to dogs I would have probably never bought another dog from a registered breeder. Yes we do have two purebreds from registered breeders so I'm not against them but I see why people look elsewhere. -

Personally I am not a big fan of oodles (with the exception of schnauzer x poodle) however most of them I have groomed over the years have been fantastic dogs, well behaved and wonderful family dogs, most of them have had better temperaments than the purebred poodles I've groomed (and owned) and most of them have had good owners that put in the time for training and grooming, I don't think it fair to criticise someone for wanting one. -
Registering Puppy--Desexing Requirements
Rascalmyshadow replied to KLB's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am in a council where you can't register your dogs until they are desexed, not even at the higher rate and I have little dogs, I have always just kept them unregistered and hoped I didn't get a fine, so far I have been lucky. Personally I think it is ridiculous a council can enforce such a rule. Edited to add: I register my dogs once they are desexed. -
Go to the vet ASAP, as others stated it could be a grass seed, it could also be a nasal tumour or bacterial/fungal infection.

Thank you will pass on her details

An old friend of mine took the top off a heavy birdbath and filled that for her Rotti, I think it was glazed on the inside so easy to clean.

Can anyone recommend a gentle, reliable mobile groomer or someone trustworthy that does pick ups/drop offs in or around the Frankston area. I am giving up grooming and I have a customer that doesn't drive and is suffering from emphysema, she has a gorgeous little well behaved Maltx that needs grooming every 6-8 weeks, she did try one mobile when I was on maternity leave and they did a horrible job and couldn't cut nails.

Hi my son is a bad asthmatic has been since he was three, my mum has it, so does my husband and my grandma died from an asthma attack so I have been around people with it my whole life. If you are worried go the doctor ASAP we are having an extremely bad allergy season this year, you might need antihistamines and possibly prednisolone (or similar). I would be bathing and properly blow drying your dogs once a week to keep down the fur and skin particles around the house, also if you want them in your room perhaps let them sleep in crates on human pillows, get a few cheap pillow cases and change them daily so there is no build up. Have you got a good vacuum like a Dyson, this is better than sweeping since its picks up the hair with less chance of causing it to float around like sweeping does. Hope you get on top of it, it is a horrible thing to have to deal with. Oh also if you get the dogs washed weekly it cuts down the grasses, pollens etc they could be carrying in their fur.

Wow what suburb did you move from? Have you found everyone very friendly? Maybe we could meet up for a walk some time, we don't really know anyone up there. I'm so excited and very relieved to have multiple people give such good feedback.

Thank you I didn't want to jinx us by saying anything too soon. It's been a very difficult year especially with my health and my older daughters behavioural issues, will start a thread in off topic soon to update on what's going on.

They are ridiculously cheap, but not why I travel there as I would prefer expensive and save time. I wish I lived 10 mins away LOL. They are easy going, don't treat savvy owners like plebs (like city vets do). They sound perfect, the vet I go to now I worked with a few years ago so I know her well and trust her completely, I really dislike dealing with new vets that treat experienced clients like idiots, or push unecessary products.
-
Thank you that is awesome to hear, was one of the things I was the most worried about. Even better its less than 10 mins from where we are moving so much closer than where I travel now. Are their prices reasonable or do they tend to be a bit dearer than average?

After a horrible year my husband and I finally made the decision to sell up and move to a small country property, it is not an area I am familiar with and will be too far away from my vet clinic to continue taking the animals there. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or good experiences with any vets in or near Korumburra, happy to travel up to half an hour if necessary, anything much further will become difficult.

The Oster blades and Laube combs all work on Andis clippers, Andis are what I use for professional grooming. A 40# blade under your combs will give a better finish and make it easier to get through the coat, just make sure your dog is bone dry. Look at Wahl IT series 8inch scissors they have a nice thin blade and are easy to handle without being overly expensive (around $50) good scissors are a must. I wouldn't bother with curved scissors once you get the hang of it all you won't need them anyway. I even do poodle heads and pom poms with straights.
-
I haven't been on here for a while but just read this thread, for the look you want to achieve use a 40# blade with a Laube no 0# plastic comb over the top or a size B# over the top if you want it a bit longer, bath and fluff dry completely before clipping, always clip with the lay of the coat not against it (you only do that shaving a poodles face, feet and tail), then use your scissors to neaten up all the straggly bits and create the overall shape.

Poor little dog. I wont leave my guys tied anywhere they are way too valuable (don't mean in $$$$)but it is pretty standard around here, dogs are always tied up at the supermarket, school and local shops without an owner in sight.

Hi I'm ok went and signed her microchip over on Monday, apparently she is doing well since surgery and her new family love her. As hard as its been it has actually made my life a lot easier, I didn't realise how much stress having the extra dog was causing, my house is now quiet, I only have to do one walk a day to get everyone out, I can go to bed at any time because I don't have to crate anyone over night and we are now in a position where we might even be able to sell up and buy a bigger house/land.

My Airedale only gets shaved about twice a year. However, we don't give him the show coat we just shave him. We will need to trim under his chin more often that that so he doesn't get for stuck in it. Airedales need to be groomed every 8-10 weeks, they are not low maintenance if you are used to short coats and they do tend to want to chase cats and even small dogs so I would be very careful.
