  1. Is who I thought, Steven is awsome we usually saw him while Juliet was on maternity leave. He regularly works at Black Rock and if he's not on Juliet the owner is the best, she's the only vet my dogs have been excited to see.
  2. Look for Meloxicam or Meloxidyl both are a lot cheaper than Metacam.
  3. We fostered a little female dog that would do the same thing, pooped and peed on the human beds, as soon as she went to a home with no other dogs it stopped altogether.
  4. It's definitely marking, cocking their legs on items, not a full pee but enough to leave a smell and mark on the carpet. They are all trained to pee on command and do when they are taken outside.
  5. The price sounds excessive to me and they don't sound like they are trying to solve the problem. If your friend is in Bentleigh, I would highly recommend going to Black Rock vet, I know the owner well, worked with her before she bought the practice, they are exceptional, I would still be going there if I didn't move so far away. If the itch is persistant I would get a referral to the allergy clinic well worth the money, will save your friend a lot in the long run.
  6. I am totally exhausted, before I had my daughter I was working and managing the dogs ok, at least I had plenty of energy to manage them. Since having her i have had multiple health issues including surgeries, what once seemed reasonably easy is now totally draining. Between the two boys peeing,Hugo's vomiting, my daughter getting into everything and still having to pick up after the older two kids it feels like constant ground hog day. Just wish I knew what prompts them to suddenly do it.
  7. I have had a multi dog house for 20 years and admittedly this is the first time we've had a marking issue, except for the occasional foster that wasn't house trained. Amazingly my Chi girl was an ex show dog that lived in kennels, was shocking for going inside at first is now perfect. Think this will be the last time in my life we have more than two dogs.
  8. Unfortunately I have already done most of what you suggested before we moved and it didn't work, i was hoping it would settle in a new house since it's all neutral territory. Their routine has barely changed since moving and I still take them out for a toilet break multiple times a day even though the door is always open. I can't attach them to me as I have a toddler on the go that isn't walking yet. We have baby gates on the bedrooms but I can't block off the loungeroom it restricts my daughter too much. Im not jumping into rehoming but I doubt they would continue to do it if they were living with only one other female dog. Hardest part is they might not do it for a couple of weeks then just randomly something will get peed on and you never know what's it's going to be.
  9. This is definitely a territorial issue, Rascal is oldest and boss dog so everyone respects him and there's no competition, Claudia is a female and tiny so again no competition but Astro and Hugo although are friends they are much more competitive with one another, I think this is the cause of the behaviour, even outside on a walk those two mark everything.
  10. Our boy Hugo is a black but from red lines, he is quite a nervy boy but bossy, wasn't as bad as a puppy but got worse as he matured. Ive owned or fostered every colour poodle (except brown) and red was definitely the worst for nerves and problem behaviour.
  11. Glad you found a brush that works for you just make sure you run a comb through the coat so you don't miss any knots. Typical groomer probably doing things behind the scenes they don't want you to know about, shame your not in Melbourne I would have been happy to show how to use the slicker and any other grooming techniques you wanted to know.
  12. Unfortunately I can't use play pens for two reasons, one I don't have anywhere in the house to fit them and two forcing the dogs to be confined with my daughter crawling around and able to put her hands/fingers through the bars would be a recipe for disaster, they are ok because they can freely move away from her but there's a high chance of her being bitten if they felt restricted. Belly bands could be a good option, can the dogs get them off or do they stay on very well?
  13. We have four dogs, three boys, one girl, all desexed, aged from 3-8. We have not long moved into a new house, have spent almost $10,000 on new carpets and curtains, two of the boys have started marking on different objects (something they have done in the past) we already need to have our room and the loungeroom steam cleaned (carpets have been down less than 8 weeks) and I am no longer in a position to afford replacing everything constantly. The things they are peeing on are completely random, a chair in the corner, my daughters teddy bear, a large canvas, washing basket, their own bed etc. I no longer work so there is almost always someone here yet I rarely catch them, we have baby gates on the bedrooms so they aren't in there without us. I take them out multiple times a day for a toilet break even though the door is open 24/7, they all pee in command. I can't constantly keep the loungeroom closed off as it restricts and separates my toddler too much, cant lock them out as there's no shelter here and it's much colder/wetter. Does anyone else have any ideas I may not have thought of, we have used crate training with all but Rascal (he's not the problem) but it hasn't helped. I am getting very close to rehoming the two, I have gone without so much for our dogs over the last 20 years, including putting us into financial debt for surgeries, replacing wrecked stuff, never going on a holiday, etc but this is just too much, especially since it drastically impacts the whole family. Any help or ideas appreciated.
  14. Look at Clipper world they are in Vic but will ship anywhere, they have different brands and different price ranges, they are also one of the few suppliers that will sell direct to public.
  15. As RuralPug stated you need a force drier to do it properly, I would also suggest learning to use the slicker properly they work really well to fluff up the coat, just make sure it's a soft one and not a course one.
  16. I would check out Giday poodles, they are bred for excellent temperaments and assessed to match their new family. I personally would stay away from the lagotto, the few I've groomed have had terrible temperaments, not a dog I would want around children.
  17. Hi Hugo has been good since having medication and stopping the Ziwipeak. One of Astros eyes is now perfect, the other one (worst of the two) is much better but I think we'll put him back on his eye ointment just to get on top of it completely.
  18. For the last 6 months ( possibly more) Astro our little Pom x chi has has had very sore weepy eyes, the actual eye rim ends up red raw. He doesn't have a squashed/flat face or blocked tear ducts or any other specific condition, eyes clear up with steroid ointment but flare up within a couple of days of stopping it. Have seen multiple vets and they've all put it down to allergies and advised he will just need permanent medication. In the last week I haven't given the dogs any tinned Ziwipeak, instead they've had Holistic select, amazingly Astro's eyes are clearing up without medication. Backtracking I think it all started when we switched from Canidae to Ziwipeak. Has anyone else experienced similar? I am hoping we have just found our solution, could also be playing a big roll in Hugo's vomiting/stomach problems.
  19. Yep I just assumed these people would be buying from a reputable source, somewhere the dogs are well socialised, definitely can be a problem breed if they aren't raised well.
  20. Have had a few friends with staffy's (sorry Staffordshire bull terriers) and they have all been excellent around other dogs including smaller ones. I had pit bulls years ago and they were the same.
  21. As long as they don't mind shedding I would suggest an adult pug or even a well socialised adult staffy.
  22. Well we rushed Hugo to the vet this morning, for the first time he seemed very uncomfortable and had bloody diahorrea (spelling?) xrays showed no blockage so he's being treated for inflammation and infection with antibiotics, anti inflammatories and pain killers. Looks like he might also be put on a prescription diet!
  23. Did some reading on this and I think your right, his symptoms don't seem fitting. Sometimes it's a proper spew (sorry) food and all, last night he did two in our bedroom, today a bit more unusual for him in the day time, he did two in the loungeroom. if it was due to an empty stomach should he still spew up food? He's around 2 1/2 now so I would have thought if it was an imaturity thing it would have improved by now. He's not losing weight or condition and doesn't seem to have diarrhoea or drinking excessively or anything else worrying.
  24. He gets dinner around 5:30 tends to throw up during the night, never seen him throw up straight after a meal. Doesnt do it after breakfast very often. its usually typical vomit although sometimes it's just yellow throthy bile, he general makes heaving sounds before it happens which often wakes me during the night so I know what's coming. Will read up on megaeosophagus, and try elevating his bowl. Will also book him in with the local vet maybe they can find something.
