  1. I also bought two kongs for my puppy - totally not interested - not even with a treat in them. :D Apart from her ball on a rope - her favourite toy is the empty toilet roll - go figure - (that and a drink bottle with the lid off - which i supervise her with) Her other favourite toy is any insect she sees outside - she loves chasing them.
  2. I'd recommend you discourage this.. dogs can really ruin their teeth if this habit becomes compulsive. A bitter spray on edges may help. Does she have access to lots of chewable toys? she has lots of chewable toys. I have two types of kongs - that she completely ignores - even when they have a treat in them. She also has a ball and rope toy, a ball that she can get a good grip on and a squeaky toy which she loves. Most of the time she will prefer the toys - but sometimes she goes for the concrete. She is outside during the day when i am at work. I think the bitter spray is going to be a good idea. Discouraging her from chasing and trying to eat milipedes is the next big challenge
  3. My puppy has decided that chewing concrete is a good idea - she actually sits on the ground, finds an edge or a join and then chews away (she's 8 weeks old)
  4. Puppy has been home a couple of days - seems to be going well - cried three times first night in her pen - not at all the second night. When we have had to travel anywhere i have used her crate - seems to work well. Wanting to try her collar and lead - my goodness what a fuss!!!! I can get her lead on her now - no problem - but lots of yelping and pulling when we try a little walk (across the lounge room i mean) Any suggestions? What small steps should i be taking? She's only 8 weeks old - is this too soon? jr
  5. Sorry for repeating this post from elsewhere - but i need some advise I am bringing my puppy home tomorrow night!!!! I live in a little townhouse (bedrooms upstairs, living areas downstairs) and a small but nice backyard for puppy to play in that i have made secure (cant see anything she can get into trouble with). I am hoping to begin the way i plan to continue and so am planning on having her crate downstairs (Inside) with perhaps a little pen around it as well. My problem is that with me sleeping upstairs, i dont think i will hear her if she needs to go outside. Should i keep the crate door open when i put her to bed (inside the pen) in case i dont hear her? I dont mind cleaning up 'mistakes' if i dont get her out quickly enough. I've also been thinking about making the 'pet-loo' that i've seen on another thread. I bought a cushion/bed for her crate. do i need to put anything else in there with it? She has an outside shelter/kennel too for when she is outside. Have bought bowls, collars, leads, toys, brushes, comb (a sheltie, she will need it). Someone gave me puppy training pads they had used with their dog. My other big question is what should i do when i first bring her home? I am figuring letting her have a big sniff around the house and a play and just get used to new surroundings. Supper. Anything else that people think i should do to make it less stressful for her? Should i have a hot water bottle ready for her bed in case she is unsettled? A radio for comfort? (Both of these things have been suggested to me but i have no idea as to what works or doesnt) Very excited right now. Been waiting for the right puppy for almost two years! Finally here. Any advice, help, recommendations of great crate training websites etc will be appreciated.

  7. our zoo (Adelaide) will often run photography sessions on how to photograph animals. reasonable price too. havent been able to get to one yet - but i hear they are brilliant. maybe other cities do them to? loving this thread - describes me to a 'T'
  8. I know you posted this ages ago - but i am new to the forum and just found them all. I actually like the first one, i like the use of diagonal and the way it draws your eye down the picture. I also like the second one - good use of diagonals there too - and a nice shot of the turtle - its small fault is the line of the sand draws you eye to the bottom left corner, not to the turtle itself. I actually suck at taking photos - even though i know the basics.
