my puppy had a blocked tear duct (completely) from 9 weeks until 16 weeks. I am pretty certain the plane flight from her breeder caused it. (She was fine when I picked her up, but had the weepy when we got off the plane). I flushed her eye regularly with water and also used "eye envy" on it to get rid of the stains it caused. The vet reckons it cleared up as she grew and her muzzle lengthened. My observation is that it stopped when her adult teeth came in and her baby canines went.

wipe all the surfaces over with really hot water, then pinoclean.

revolution. I wouldn't give anything to a pregnant bitch - but vet says this one is safe and all the packaging and info in it says that it is safe for pregnant and lactating bitches.

I love my porteen bag, but if I am going anywhere where I think it will be windy or dusty, I don't take it. With it only having the flap for closure and not a zippered closure, I just don't feel like the camera is protected enough against dirt etc. I use my lowpro backpack then.

Any particular brand of wool wash?

Which Dog Chiro / Muscle Guy Do You Use
jr_inoz replied to sas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
another one here too - and really bummed that he isn't taking appointments until late Jaunary... Vet at Westbourne Park is also a chiro vet and is quite good. David Lyndsay - MyVet, Westbourne Park. -
Is Nutro grain free? I've got one of mine on BH and she is thriving on it (best coat in ages), the other gets yeasty ears so have switched her to Eagle Pack Holistic grain free. No idea if it's doing her ears any good or not (as we had the ears flushed not too long ago so right now they're ok), but wanted her to be on grain free just for that bit of extra help. EPH is expensive though and I'm looking for an alternative grain free that is slightly cheaper - it costs $85 for 12kg while BH costs $95 for 20kg! Nutro doesn't have any grain free formulas. Which Holistic Select variety are you using that is grain free? If you are looking for a food that is wheat, soy, corn and beet pulp free then there certainly are some great options out there, or if you want a food that has no grains or cereals at all, then you need a product that is actually packaged as grain free (Artemis Maximal, Canidae has 4 grain free, Earthborn Holistic has 2 grain free, Taste of the Wild, Evo, etc). Sags :) Thanks. She is on Earthborn Holistic Ocean Catch(?) grain free. Whatever the fishy one is It's expensive, but I'll stay on it for a while and see how her ears go. I prefer to have both dogs on the same food for ease, but the price of EH is so for so little that I'll keep my other girl on BH for now. Her coat is great on BH, have had a few compliments on it and ask what I feed. For some reason, people are surprised it's BH Sorry - got confused as you mentioned you were using Eagle Pack Holistic earlier - not Earthborn Holistic. Are you on their frequent buyer program to help out a bit with cost? Labradork - the new grain free HS is definately coming over from what Eagle Pack have told us recently. Sags Very good to hear :)

Hackham fodder stocks BH, if you are south of the city. Do they stock the chicken one though? I've found quite a few stockists of the lamb and the puppy - but I am struggling to find someone who has the chicken one. I would also want the small bag to start with to see if it agrees with her. Why don't you save your legs & ring around...there are heaps of retailers in SA. listed on the Black Hawk Web page. I tried to post you the link, but the link thingimy thing wouldn't work for me this morning. But just go to the website & ring around the retailers listed for Adelaide. My inability to find the chicken version is from ringing the other stockists in my area. Before I ring every store on the list, thought I might just check in here and see if anyone else in Adelaide has found the chicken version.

for those that have orthotics - merrells are one of the brands that are good as the insole is removable so you can put an orthotic in.

Have tried pangenics on a sheltie - and I know people who swear by it - and whilst it made the colours look great and the BEST whites I have seen, it softens the coat on a sheltie to the point that it is an incorrect coat for show. If I weren't showing the dogs I would probably use it, but it softened their coat way too much. I went to a friend's place and tried it on one of their retired show dogs who is known for his coarse coat - softened that too much as well. It LOOKS fantastic, sits well, colour is really good and their skin is great, but it just isn't the right texture. My puppy has some whites that can stain a little yellow in front. I am reading this thread with interest.

merrells..... they are the best. They are stocked at a couple of places. I know my size now and tend to buy them online because some of the really nice styles aren't available here. http://www.merrell.com/

Haven't yet found a stockist of the Black Hawk chicken in adelaide yet. (The lamb doesn't seem to agree with my girl - but the puppy is doing very very well on the BH puppy) Anyone know where I can get it in Adelaide? Also - dobesrock - I tried my girl on the same earthborn, but saw no major difference in coat or skin (no improvement) so didn't see the point in spending the money on this for no noticeable difference. She is on nutro chicken and oatmeal now.

I know someone who taught their dog to pick up any loose clothing lying around (especially socks) and put them in the laundry hamper. It had the two-fold effect of keeping the dog occupied and getting the teenagers no to leave clothes lying on the floor of their bedrooms.

Yep - very similar. It is interesting in that the lens doesn't have the issues on my 400D.

Titre Testing Instead Of Annual Vaccinations.
jr_inoz replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I titre test. My girl's results came back as excellent. My obedience club will accept the certificate as being vaccinated by boarding kennels won't I don't think. My girl is way less itchy now I don't annually vaccinate. -
This is what I had ready for my girl as my mentor always uses this. Does the same method as winpara does. What size is your whelping box? I have two pieces here cut to exact size for the box I borrowed that you are welcome to. Thanks jr :) My box is about 1.2 x 1.2m so probably bigger than yours. I was just in Bunnings have a look around and they had some mat type stuff similar to what Ptolomy described reduced to clear for $9.00 a linear metre. I think it was called camping mat, anyway at 1.5m wide and $9.00 a metre I bought enough for 2 pieces and will see how it goes. If no good for that it may get some use on the tiles when they first get access to them to prevent slipping on them. yep - bigger than mine - but not by alot. I think I got mine on special too - about this time of year as well - two years ago ready for Rommy's first litter.

tlc - what do you mean by "hunts like crazy?" do you mean hard to focus? I had the 50mm on the 7D the other day and wasn't at all happy with the results.
-
also wondering where people normally get it from? Supermarket or health food store?

What issue are you having? You need to get focus on the subject right then pan or they have trouble. I need to head back down to SACA, let me know when you are there next and I'll come down. Am finding I am having a few focusing issues with the 7D when it is on single focus point. I thought it was the sigma lens, but had the same issue recently with the 50mm. Am wondering if there is something wrong with the camera. Been a issue with 3 different lenses with the aperture not set too wide. Was taking some portrait shots the other day that would normally be sharp and clear and they weren't like they normally are. I'll be at SACA at the next dog show, but won't be hanging around (night show and I have two things on that night). The next day show I'll be at will be the 17th November. Would be good to catch up. WIll be hanging around group 5 as normal. No idea, I just love shelties so I took the photo. It was about 3 years ago. I was at the show with an ex member here (jbbb) who was showing her dobe. Possumcorner, I happend to be going to the Easter show when I was told Freya was there so I took some pics. Her owner has them. Couple of years later she goes on to win BIS at the Collie Nationals. Yes, Rosie is her mother. Ripley - wondered if it was Washington (Shelmanna Zulu Prince).

Barf Vs Super Premium Commercial Foods
jr_inoz replied to Inka3095's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I gave Mini a chicken neck and she pretty much swallowed it whole and then threw it up a few minutes later. Never again. Mine do that, then they eat it again. Sometimes they'll go for a second regurg if they aren't yet satisfied. Nomnom minimax - that is how a breeder I know lost one of his dogs. I also know of another breeder who lost a dog in my breed from not chewing a chicken wing properly. Perforated intestine which is apparently a horrible way to go. Chicken frames seem even worse with the ribs being able to be chewed to really sharp pieces. Mine take two bites and then swallow - scares me to death! Enough stories in my breed for me to never risk it again. I've been feeding lamb necks too on occasion. I made the mistake of getting them cut across once - one of my girls got the middle section stuck on a tooth. I reckon I was lucky she didn't break the tooth. I reckon I might stick with lamb necks. -

Is it the ingredients or the way it is presented? Would he eat minced up meat (i.e. no effort to eat)? Cooper is our first dog and thanks to DOL I was able to learn about raw feeding. Whoever it was above that said that commercial foods are marketed to make you feel that you "have to have them or your dog will miss out" is totally right. When we swapped from a puppy kibble to adult kibble we tried a few different varieties and none seemed to appeal to him (sniff and walk away) or on the last food he got a very upset tummy and I couldn't think what else it could have been. It was at that point I decided to try chicken wings and he went nuts for them - which was a far cry from his fussy ways on dry foods. I wasn't confident that I would get the right balance to his food so I then started buying the BARF patties and he currently gets 2 chicken necks or a wing for brekky and half a BARF patty for dinner. He will occasionally get table scraps but not very often. I'm happy that it works out cost wise cheaper (or at worst when chicken isn't on special, roughly the same price) as feeding premium kibble. I also like the fact it is closer to a natural diet (less processed) and the main part is he is so happy at meal times. :) If/when I get adventurous enough may try making up my own BARF mix and freezing them. How does your guy go chewing chicken wings and necks? I can't risk them with mine - have never risked a wing, but two chews and a neck is gone (swallowed) which scares me to death and defeats the teeth cleaning purpose. I've tried lots of things, but lamb flap has been the best so far I think (I trim off excess fat). I am wondering what else I can try - roo and beef are a bit too rich for them. Do others have suggestions? THey are only small dogs - 7kg. Some bones are too big for them. -

They have in my neck of the woods. I remember when I could get a lamb shank or lamb neck for 50c - great for soups. Not any more. Lamb neck was $3 a kilo the other day. I have found a local butcher that will do lamb flap quite cheaply in my area. I have to trim the fat off it. -
Ripley - who is the sheltie in your first photo? Lovely looking dog. I am getting better at show photos, but am still trying to work out the focus on the new sigma lens.
