  1. If you can fit it in your car - go the deluxe. I have the compact because I only drive a small car, and need it to fit across the width of my boot - the deluxe wont do that, the compact does. The deluxe is a stronger frame and copes with higher winds. (apart from being bigger) Good price. Might look into that...
  2. same in SA - we never get sent our numbers - just the envelope back saying our entries have been received (which you know when the cheque clears). I too write my dogs and their classes I entered on the back of the SSAE so i remember. Would love a little list that says how many dogs are in the group.
  3. Thanks for the link Sway - but when I click on it - dog results aren't listed. Anyone know where else we can go for results - or what am I doing wrong?
  4. do it the day before - unless you have something to remove the wd40. If you do it at the show, take talc or fuller's earth or something to soak up the oil.
  5. unisolve.... also - eucalyptus oil - but use sparingly - dogs don't seem to like the smell.
  6. Best breed every though Mike - congratulate you on choosing a shetland sheepdog. I love my girls. They'll shed once a year when desexed - and you'll know when they do. But, the fur is easy pretty easy to get off things when they shed. Grooming - a good brush once a week. A good breeder will be able to show you how to do that properly. I find with my girls that I comb behind their ears every 3 or 4 days - they can get tangles there pretty easily (they often grab each other there though). This only takes a minute or so. Mine don't like going swimming, but my aunties shelties used to love it - so it would depend on the dog. Mine do love playing with the hose and running water from the tap though - watering the garden is a lot of fun. Food - mine get a cup of good quality dry food a day or half a cup of dry plus half a cup of raw meat/veg. They'll eat as much as I want to give them though - so you have to be careful not to let them get fat. Sorry I can't answer the breeder questions - I am in SA - but I am sure others will be able to help. Also check out the breed pages on this website. I love shelties - very loyal dogs, highly intelligent, quick to learn. Happy doing as much or as little exercise as you want - but they love to run.
  7. I'm not stating - This is what is written on the bottom of all forms in South Australia - so perhaps Victoria doesn't have the same rules? Would that mean though, that if you come to South Oz to show - you have to show under these rules and can't show a dog that has been in a kennel with illness for three months? Mind you - pretty sure people ignore that statement on the form.
  8. From the bottom of the entry form - that you have to sign and declare that you are telling the truth... I certify that this exhibit has not within the said period of three months been in a kennel affected with Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Parvo Virus or any other contagious or infectious disease and that during the last twelve months prior to the date of this Show the dog was vaccinated. seems pretty straight forward to me. What happens to exhibitors that break these rules? Why don't they get reported?
  9. hmm - not sure why this would be happening. You shouldn't need to cut the outer part of the lead at all to poke the end through.
  10. Thinking about it (and I don't know what others do) i'd stitch over the end so it couldn't fray before sewing the end in - then making sure it wasn't poking out again when you take the needle off. You shouldn't see the end at all (it should be inside the paracord) and then you over-sew (sew down the length of the lead where you poked it in) to stop it from coming back out again. (Will also strengthen the end). Does this make sense? Anyone know where you can get snap hooks? Also looking for martingdale collars - I can make them but want a light weight jewellers link chain with small rings on the end. All the collars I have found - the rings are too big.
  11. Ive toyed with this abit too and my biggest issue was it fraying, would love to know how to do that bit properly! Get a wool darning needle then after threading the needle with the end of the cord, poke the needle back down into the middle of the paracord (Along its length) and pull through.(Keeping the end of the paracord inside the cord). You can then sew this down. Not sure if this is making sense, and I don't have any here to take photos to show you.
  12. Thanks - I wanted to ask the same thing. The show's website has the other results but not this. Did they not judge it? Did they do it on Thursday? I don't remember it.
  13. Even if there were staff on the doors, the chi will have been small enough to tuck into a jacket and slip by unnoticed. This is apparently what he did.
  14. when it hit the news (ABC radio) it was only 15 minutes previous. Happened at around 4:20pm as far as I can tell. They gave a complete description of the guy who took the dog, and where he was headed. Told the public to be on the look out. Hopefully he will be found. Horrible, horrible news.
  15. Yep - this was my experience the one and only time I went there. I wont be back. People who have aggressive dogs, who have no control and then let their dogs get stuck into others and do nothing about it.... Put my girl back months on her socialising. Baaaad place.
  16. Is that two years in a row for both junior and senior girls?? I know it is for Kirsten Yay!
  17. EF - am glad. Actually I would be more worried about the Avon river at Stratford. I was in a wedding once there, in weather just like this. River rose very very fast and cut the Highway just as the reception was starting. Everyone, Bride, Groom all the guests (most from nearby Sale and Melbourne) were stranded in Stratford and couldn't get home. Locals all took us in and gave us a bed. We all got together the next day for lunch - leftovers etc. Not just the highway was cut, but also the train line, which is on elevated track through there. Was a very memorable wedding. No one was going to forget that one in a hurry. I don't see warnings for the Avon or the Thompson River at Sale either, so hopefully you will all get home safe.
  18. How are you all going there today? I am reading the BOM website and the Mitchell river has a moderate flood warning on it for Bairnsdale. Hope you all get home safely!
  19. try shade cloth, filled with fibre filling (or wool filling). Dogs seem to like the roughness and they can scratch it around to the how they want. I looked at those expensive beds, but realised it was just shade cloth - so made my own. Dog hasn't chewed it yet.
  20. Wow - blow dryer on a short coated breed... I bought mine from ebay - very happy with it, very cheap. From Hong Kong. Is a cylinder one, with adjustable strength setting.
  21. Bugger the sage smudge stick, I have told MrsD that we need to get some Old Spice. Look at your dog, look at me, look at your dog, look at me ... I am on a horse
  22. I'm in the process now of making some leads for a German Shepherd lady for show so I don't see why you couldn't use kangaroo lace leads with a choker. I also get some lovely kangaroo lace leads from a lady who makes them for me. she uses an inner core for extra strength, so would probably be fine for a Rottie in the show ring. That's what I use. It is a 50lb monofilament, normally used for tuna fishing! And I also splice extra lengths through the handle and clip ends so that there is more support as well. They're certainly not flimsy! yeah - the lady who does mine uses an inner core that is rated to around 90lb - 100lb - way more than i need for my 7kg girl. I suspect the weakest part might be the clip.
