  1. Yep, that was me. Ok now i have put a face to a name

Your little girl is most definitely keen and they all usually have a preferred direction. Will we see you out next Sunday? I hope so as I think we can get her going nicely, she was already trying to fetch me to me in the few minutes of her instinct test.

I would like to come out on Sunday - will know more after the weekend - I may be showing someone's bitch for them on the Sunday, and that would make it difficult to do both. Would like to try Rommy on ducks too. Will there be an instinct test on ducks? Do you have a rough idea about what time?

Rommy is such a telly head - it was nice to see her definitely focused on something! Would be interesting to see how she goes though - when she gets distracted, she doesn't listen to much else. Always interesting in the show ring - never know what she'll do when I take her in the ring.

Hey Gayle - lots of fun isn't it? Glad to hear Shae was such a star! It is so very cool seeing them do well in what they were originally bred to do.

  2. Saw this on ebay...very interested for Jed. Wondering if I could have some opinions size wise. Trying to get around specifications for each size is doing my head in. This particularly looks "destruction proof". Jed's 12 mths old...about 69cm tall (to the top of his head), about 80cm long from bottom to tip of nose lying down (not counting tail). Note the height measurement is 70cm from bottom of floor (not ground).

I like the fact that it is should be really strong (eating proof) and on wheels so I could move it around easily if needed. Would only be using it for sleeping and a quite place for him.

I know it's considerably more expensive than a wire crate....but I just know he would find a way to destroy/ dismantle a wire one.

Click here to see on ebay

really similar one in the classifieds here on dogzonline... cheaper too.

  3. Do you find it acceptable:

    - when people allow their dogs to bark non stop at the dog park? I live next door to a big offleash park and it does peeve me when people let their dogs bark in the park at unreasonable hours- like before 7am on weekends.

Yes. It's a dog park! If they can't bark there, where can they bark? We live in a constant state of noise vigilance because our neighbours are liable to blow their top at us if our dogs bark. The dog park is a release for us as well as them. It is THE ONLY place we can relax and let them be as noisy as they like. I assume anyone who lives near a dog park doesn't care or they wouldn't live near a dog park.

Like I said - there are NO issues with dogs barking at our park. Of course they bark - but not all the time, and not really early in the morning.

Sorry - but I don't think it is reasonable for a dog to be allowed to bark all the time before 7am on weekends. Would piss me off too, and I would be calling the council.

I live next door to a park (not a designated off-leash dog park, but a park where dogs are allowed off lead) and we don't get this kind of inconsiderate behaviour. If we did, on a regular basis, I would be calling council.

Oh, wait, I'm sorry! You have made me realise the error of my ways and how terribly inconsiderate I have been.

We don't get constant barking at our dog park, but they are dogs and they are playing and they do bark. When my boys see their canine pals they get excited and we have a few minutes of non-stop barking that can feel like an age. I think that is entirely reasonable. Sometimes something sets all the dogs off and they all bark for a while. Some of us have to exercise our dogs before 7am. Either we exercise them in our own yards and upset our neighbours or we exercise them at the dog park and apparently upset the dog park neighbours. So go call the council. I'm sure they'll move the dog park for you.

Like I said - the are NO issues with dogs at our park - of course they bark, but not all the time, and not really early in the morning. (There is the odd bark at around 6:30 - 7am but it certainly isn't constant.) I know I am fortunate in having considerate people in the area.

  5. My little girl Rommy had her first attempt at herding yesterday in SA - with sheep.

She passed her basic instinct test. We paid for two entries, so we got to do it twice. She looked pretty funny. Looking at the video that a friend took - she likes to herd in a clockwise direction.

Piper - were you the second judge yesterday afternoon? Thanks for all your help.

  6. Not sure what your guys are like... but i have red gum chips in my front garden for mulch.

My girls like to eat it. They carry it around. Would bring it inside if they could. Good thing they aren't out there often.

I have pebbles down in the backyard. They might move them around a bit, but at least they don't bring it inside.

I reckon the road base you have is a good option - or maybe some gravel? Otherwise, if you could afford it - why not concrete it?

  7. To add to my sheltie story about the paper to wee on....

One of my girls really hates being brushed with the stipple brush (sp). I accidentally left the grooming bag open. She sniffed through it, found the offending brush (which was not in plain sight) and removed it from the bag and tried to hide it under a blanket in her crate.

Problem solving skills or not? I have no idea, but would instinctively say yes.

  8. I think my sheltie justifies the breed's place on the list.

    She can problem solve.

She got stuck inside one day, while the lawns were being mowed when I wasn't home. She is toilet trained, but was trained as a puppy on paper. She pulled paper out of the recycle tub in my kitchen so she could wee on it.

  9. What do the breeders teams do at the show?

I mean, I know they would go in to the ring together, but how does it all work? Haven't seen it before, and only heard a little bit about it.

Any youtube clips or anything someone can point me to?

  10. Finding it hard to get titre testing done here too...

but won't vaccinate this year - my girl reabsorbed a litter earlier this year, and from what I have been reading - the annual heart vaccination she had had could have been a factor.

Also know this means that we won't be able to do obedience this year as none of the clubs in my area will let her participate without proof of vaccination.

  11. I have the same opinion on Champions and Grand Champions or those showing towards those titles.

    Earn it!

Beat the best to be the best.

exactly !!! let's not "cheapen" our Ch titles.

    yep...

(and no, I don't have a yard full of champions - yet to get one.)

Would suspect though, that the Gr CH didn't stay out in the ring forever before the Dogzonline point score competition. I know of many Gr Ch that are only out there every single week because of this comp.

Stop this comp, and the up and comers would have more opportunities that you are looking for with a separate ch class.

    Flame suit donned now....

  12. pixie_meg, It was nice meeting you today ;) :o

oh that was you. funny how you meet people and then find out they're on DOL.

Oberon looked not so great. cant wait for his coat to grow back.

thanks everyone for the tips. we had a very staticky coat, couldn't seem to tame it. oh well.

try plush puppy's O.M.G grooming spray. Good for keeping static under control.
