  1. There are a few GSD shown in SA and they often do well at group level. (GSD got Aus Bred in group this weekend). Judge on the weekend was good. Got each breed to come in one at a time and do a complete lap, plus a little bit more (the front of group dogs ran almost two laps). Meant every dog got a good run, on its own without the breed behind running up its bum, or the breed in front moving too slowly. Some of the group 5 dogs have the same issue in an in-show line up when the group 6 dog behind runs close up behind the group 5 dog. Sadly isn't because they aren't aware - is a deliberate tactic to try and scare and put off the G5 dog.
  2. Thanks.... So, if the OP wants a general idea of when their breed will be on - I'll have a go. (no guarantees though - lots of omissions apparently in some areas)
  3. generally speaking - how many dogs per hour or half hour does a judge normally do? I've got a catalogue here and might be able to work out rough times. (Although, there are some major omissions in the catalogue, especially on the Sunday sweepstakes day. (Neuter class is missing from the catalogue for example)
  4. Thundershirt worked on both girls here. Putting the shirt on is the only way I can keep one of them still to cut her toenails. Having said this - a snug t-shirt may work just as well.
  5. Ask Shelties and Danes for her opinion too... Both her children are junior handlers. I don't think they have that many clashes.
  6. Got sent this in an email today. Pretty awesome. You've all probably seen it, but just in case you haven't.... Hope the link works
  7. Gorgeous looking dog! Why do those Americans keep naming their shepherds after other nationalities? It's very confusing I was going to say the same thing!!
  8. She is great, and I wish it fitted in with my work. We so need the practice. Jane is doing extra weekend classes in the lead up to the Royal, if that helps? This weekend it is Sunday (tomorrow) at 1pm. Damm - wish I had seen this this morning - I would have gone! Will have to give her a call
  9. She is great, and I wish it fitted in with my work. We so need the practice.
  10. shetland sheepdog? much further down the alphabet.... or whippets in group 4? we seem to have a lot of junior handlers asking if they can handle shelties at lunchtime in junior handlers. edited - cos I forgot to add - one of the young junior handlers here, seems to manage to handle 4 different breeds in different groups on the day. I have no idea how. Somehow, she manages to do the groups as well (they don't seem to clash - or at least not very often). Another girl here shows a Boxer in 6, a Shiba Inu in 6, then a Sheltie in 5. She doesn't seem to have group clashes very often either (I have no idea how with two breeds that start with Sh...) - although she has had the problem of having two of her dogs both win class in group and then have to find another handler to do "in show" with one of the dogs.
  11. Can anyone give us an idea of price? Excluding stud fee, of bringing semen in from another state plus the cost of the AI (so vet fees and transport). Haven't had to do one before, am considering it for next time. Would be interested in knowing how much it varies too for distance travelled. I am in SA - keen to hear about cost to Adelaide from Perth or Sydney (sorry if this is hijacking the thread)
  12. My double coated girl agrees with your Lappy - although - she does love to be brushed on her front with the plain boar-bristle brush. (She runs away when the pin brush comes out) edited cos i cant spell and the emoticon didn't work properly...
  13. Smooth coated collie? Finnish Laphund? A well-conformed shetland sheepdog would fulfill most of this criteria - (except the long coat - but they are easy to groom) and the weight thing - although if you get a pet that is oversize - you'd come close. I've seen a couple of shelties at obedience that are lab size.
  14. My breed tends to be $900 - $1000 in this state. A little off topic - but I am curious about stud prices. In my breed they are much, much, much more expensive here in Australia than in the US. Stud prices are only around $150 - $200 in the US even though puppies are a similar price to here. In Australia - stud prices vary but are about the cost of a puppy (so around the $900 - $1000 mark). Why has the much higher pricing for studs developed here? (Importing semen is a whole other story....)
  15. she was 7 weeks pregnant. Thanks Oakway - it is still a bit early to work out what I want to do. I've been reading and thyroid is one of the things I should get checked.
  16. perse - that is really interesting. I tried the Uncle Albers product and my girl was really terrible on it. Apart from a couple of other symptoms, she also started gaining weight. I haven't noticed a difference with Bonney - but my girl is on Adult Complete, not Working Dog
  17. Ok - update after vet visit again today.... No sign of puppies now, so has aborted or absorbed them both. Tests being done to make sure she is ok. On antibiotics too. She seems fine, just quiet. Still eating all her dinner (with gusto). I don't think she'll be happy when i start cutting back her food to her non-pregnant size feeds.
  18. Thanks all, Rang both of those numbers and couldn't get the info I needed. went to Anzac Highway - only one open. They confirmed she is losing at least one or all of her puppies. She has no temperature and is eating her food ok so advice at present is to keep an eye on her and check her temp etc and then go to own vet in morning. Was able to get hold of Dion in the end (thank you Facebook!!) and had a good chat. Keeping an eye on things tonight. She is definitely losing at least one of her puppies.
  19. Piper, please PM me - or anyone who can give me the after hours number of Dion at Marion Vet.... really really urgent
  20. Cheers Piper - last time I talked to Danny we were talking about the movie - so figured it was his boy. Haven't seen the film yet. Do you know Koko's owner, JR? I've heard that the producer was so over the moon about the dog that he bought him. Hey Raz - see above. I've met Danny who owned one of the dogs used in the movie. His dog is beautiful and wonderfully trained. But is probable that the dog that the producer is over the moon about is a different dog. I didn't know there were two used in the movie.
  21. Koko was shown for awhile here in Adelaide. Beautiful boy. Danny was very excited when Koko got the part.
  22. Was sent this clip by a friend. Thought it was cute. Love how happy the dog seems.... link
  23. Haven't used them myself (haven't needed to yet), but "All pets boarding village" have a good reputation. Connie and Bob are showies and lovely. They are quite close to the city - (just on the freeway near the tollgate at Mt Osmond). I know that they also pick up and drop off dogs at the airport and things (if that's helpful). http://www.allpetsboardingvillage.com/
  24. The Shetland Sheepdog in the "in show" line up at the end was a Canadian/American Champion - am trying to remember who the breeder was.
  25. Bitches absorb puppies they don't reabsorb them - you can't reabsorb something that is already gone. thanks - although two vets talk to me about "reabsorbtion" as do a number of vet articles on the subject, so sorry for my mistake. seems it is also a mistake of qualified vets as well.
