Just picked up Mum and pups - turns out she was just taking a while to wake up so they were worried and kept her a little longer - got me so worried but she is doing well - little groggy but she seems to be coping fine! Puppies have had a feed and are settling ok.... Now for the details 3 boys born today the 6th of December - 1 orange and white parti, 2 dark sable parti's - I think, colour is like a dark choc sable, but do not think they are?? will get photos soon! jess

Thank you shellbyville - its been a worrying experience so far - now I am waiting anxiously as i have just got a phone call saying my girl is not doing as good!! She is on fluids at the moment - don't know what is wrong with her as my partner took the call - she never seemed at all stressed or anything during the labor, so I am wondering if she is not coping too well from the op! they want to keep her a few more hours to make sure she is ok!!! So the wait and worry is not over for me yet - but I guess she is in the best possible care right now. Chopperlodge I am very sorry to hear about your foal passing away - I know you put a lot of time and effort into trying to save him/her! I am really sad to hear your efforts did not pay off!! sorry again.
-
wow chopperlodge, it seems you and I were going through the same scenario from start to finish - you and I need to get together and have a good drink of something strong to knock us out after that effort - lol sorry to hear things did not go as well for you and your girl either! I am glad to hear that you have a good outcome though - so although not such a good start, you have a wonderful finish - happy mum and a lovely litter of pups on the ground - when you are up to it I would love to see pics of them all!!! all the best with mum and babies! jess

sorry everyone!! was a long night - no straining as such just anxious, panting and digging all night long - so stayed up with her to watch for first signs of proper straining and contractions! She settle for a sleep on and off, but come 7:30am she began contractions - well contractions that I could clearly see, as she just wouldn't sit still for me to be able to see the minor contractions which I am sure were there. Contractions got harder and closer together - all this time she was fine in herself and puppies were moving around still - she never looked worried - water bag came through about 10:00am followed by some straining and then she went to sleep !!!!!! no more contractions for about 30 mins so rang the vet and they said give it a little longer, at that point she did have some small contractions so I waited, she again never seemed worried, I spoke to a few breeders who were on call for me and my friend who is a vet nurse....finally time just kept passing by, no contractions or nothing of the extent to get puppy moving, lastly I examined her to see if pup could be felt passed her pelvis - nope - I think its time to assume she needs help. I wondered if she had early stages of Uterine Enertia (spelling??) as well, so we took her to the vet, time was passing by with out any progress and the water bag had been there for a good hour to hour and a half - but during this time had the vet on speaker phone, my partner on mobile to breeders..... all came to the decision its time to intervene! C-section was performed just an hour or so ago, they tried giving her some oxytocin and calcium, nothing further so c-section it was! My poor little girl! I have not picked my girl up yet, so only know that there were 3 happy healthy pups so far and mum is doing well also - no idea of sex and colour so I suppose it will be a surprise when I pick them all up!
-
oh geeze that is no good! silly scarlet!! I hope she is ok! huffing and puffing getting louder - she is now growling and furiously digging! Things are progressing.....
-
Congratulations Rascal on a lovely litter - gee its nice to see everyone getting an even split of sexes as Chopperlodge has mentioned also! Hope it continues lol well done again - they look lovely - little squished faces Still huffing and puffing here too - and destroying the whelping box! Got plenty of coffee and a bottle of champagne to crack open once all done to celebrate my first litter - lol - thats if I am really keen?? But I think coffee for now and just sit and wait! All the best with your girl too and the coming puppies!
-
My girl has been panting madly at the moment. I noticed heavy breathing around mid afternoon and by 5pm she was panting on and off - But now she is just constant -she is looking very uncomfortable too, wont sit still - She is moving around a lot and digging frantically in her box - she has been on and off nesting for the past couple of days but I think this time she is looking like things are starting to happen! I guess we will see how she goes tonight! Jess. All the best Chopperlodge I suppose the two of us will be having late night!!

That is sounding promising Ozstar - all the best with it... I think my girl is one of this girls who goes against most things stated in books, articles and other breeders - I know all girls are different and none read true to text books.... so I guess I just have to be prepared for anything... I have had up and down temps for the past 4 days! She has been seeking dark places, and rearranging her box - but other then that looks happy and well. stopped eating, is back to eating then stop eating and back to eating We noticed some dark brown stains yesterday in her bed - but nothing on her - then again in the afternoon - this time fresh and was not as dark as first though as the first ones were dry and may have dried darker! We took her to the vet in any case and the vet seemed very happy with her, examined her and feels she is well on the way - cervix and surrounding is getting softer (this is what she said??) - she felt any time last night or in the morning - but because we took her to the vet we may have delayed it a little vet said to be prepared for this and if nothing starts happening in the next 2 days to bring her up again.... still nothing happening - she is just resting again today?? First litter and getting quite anxious! due date is anywhere between tomorrow - with a window period of a week - so if it was just that I would not be concerned - the discharge has certainly thrown me off!!! Pups are moving around pretty well - lots of little action going on in there - so that puts my mind at ease for now Congratulations MM on your litter - thank goodness you made the right call - all the best with your pups and mum! look forward to some pics soon. Congrats again to KR on your litter too! And lastly to Lynai - sorry that you lost 2 ;) Geeze we are seeing a trend with chocolate! anyone would think it was the month of easter not christmas! jess.

All the best for your wee girl, Indy has taken to the ''belly up'' position as well lately.. haha its funny isn't it and so elegant!!!! but always good to sneak up and watch all the little ones moving around in there - always a good sign Thank you for the well wishes!

She is due at the earliest on the 3rd - but vet seemed to think that she has more then 2 pups in there which is a fairly decent litter size for a pom - he thinks certainly 3 but maybe 4 - she did come from a litter of four but she is much smaller then her mum - and shorter in back for a girl too - so maybe due to these factors she may come early??? When I check her temp I take 3 readings and average them - i do this in the morning and at night - but I am taking them when I see a sudden change in character with her - the thermometer does not seem to far from each reading, but I just do 3 readings at a time anyway - this morning she read 36.4 36.4 and 36.6 = average 36.46 --- now I have taken her temp again though she is a little more lively then before but not bouncing around or anything and I know you need to take it when they are quite - first temp 36.6, 36.9 and 36.9 = 36.8 I will just keep an eye on her anyway
-
That is sounding exciting kelpiesrule! All the best with everything My girls temp has dropped this morning quite considerably! she was 37.4 most of yesterday and last night but this morning she was 36.4!!! She did however have a drop in temp saturday morning - so I am just wondering if I did not get a good reading - so I will take her temp again soon to see if it continues to stay low? Both my vets suggest this thermometer so it can't be too wrong - maybe just my human error!! lol She seems happy - but she is certainly getting uncomfortable - she has been sleeping flat on her back the last 2 days - her pot belly poking up to the sky - its pretty funny - but also a good time to sit and quietly watch all the commotion going on inside her ;) Ozstar - I think Scarlet has the most pretties head I have ever seen! no wonder everyone wants puppies from her I have changed my mind - i would much rather her - ;)
-
oh geeze I would be uncomfortable with that belly!! look at it!! its almost touching the ground - lol I can't remember if you mentioned a count on puppies - do you know roughly how many she is having? I will jump on the band wagon and ask for one of scarlet's puppies as well Not long to go now - what colour are you expecting? Only a little more wait for me to go too - she is still holding off which is good!!
-
is the sad face mean you have been to your appointment and the results were no good??
-
fingers crossed for you silverblue How far along is she approx? good luck and let us know

yes does sound a bit early from this initial date I have on the first page which I think was the 9th - I think it is a little late to be honest but she was a maiden so they can hold off with their first litter. Her first mating was on the 1st of October - from that she could whelp on the 3rd of this month - but who knows when she ovulated, and I did not do a progesterone test - and she may have ovulated a few days before her first mating which could make her due date earlier?? If I average her matings or take it from her 3rd or 4th mating she could be due on the 7th give or take a few days being a maiden. I dunno what do you think?? The thing that has thrown me out with dates is I sent my girl to be mated and unknowingly she was mated a lot of times then I expected!! say 9 times!! I had no idea, but this breeder is all fore as many matings and I did not know this at the time??? so this has thrown me out a little if that makes sense. As from the first mating and last mating it really opens the due dates out by a week instead of 3 or 4 matings which obviously gives you a more accurate due date! If she is having more then two pups then there would be a chance of coming early too?? If she holds off until after the weekend then I would think that would be close enough to the first due date the 3rd

hi all, Just an update on my girl. After doing her scratching nesting etc the last couple of nights - as Aziah so perfectly explained! LOL She is a little quite today and has refused to eat anything, her temp has dropped, she was 37.5 last night and this morning she was 36.4 and gone back up again a couple of hours later when the vet took it - She has a little bit of discharge coming out now too which I noticed last night before going to be, but it is not green/brown, more a pink/reddish colour. I had an appointment with the vet this morning anyway as I needed her clipped back again as my clippers have broken and thought I would get a final check up a week before due dates - I did know that some discharge before hand is usually normal unless it is green which is not a good sign - Anyway he seems to feel that she will come early with the above signs maybe even sunday on wards??? yikes! From seeing two pups on the Ultrasound, he also felt her and counted heartbeats and seems to think there are more there which is why she may come early as 3 pups or more for a pom is usually a bigger litter then the average 1-2 pups and she is small but not too small and not too big if that makes sense lol! She is a size that I like, I see many poms who are so small that you could not expect them to have a single pup - My girl came from a litter of 4 but due to her size and being much smaller then her mum I always expected that she would have 1-2 pups at the most so learning that there is maybe more could possibly bring her to whelp early... My other half says, if you tie a string on her tail she would look like a fuzzy balloon!! my poor lil girl!

I am not an expert or anything - but I went to a specialist in sydney to get an early ultrasound on my girl (not my choice I would have waited longer) but because she was unwell and peeing blood and they wanted to check her bladder and see if they could see any signs of pregnancy at the same time, we were told to go to this specialist as they can pick up pregnancy as early as 3 weeks??? - she was about 3 weeks and a couple of days give or take - With their half a million dollar US machine they said no not pregnant no chance her uterus is so small that even if she were it would be more enlarged etc - a couple of weeks later when all hope was lost my girl got bigger and bigger and is now expecting puppies - I went to a local vet and we saw little puppies on their $10,000 dollar ultrasound machine!! so I would say in my case yes i think it is very possible that they can get it wrong, its only human and who knows how experienced the vets are unless you know them well and have been seeing them for many years - and even with the best equipment. I am not sure if your breed holds pups higher up too - but apparently poms do and this might have been why they missed them the first time??? If you can I would go to another place to get another ultrasound done or there is the test you can do - the name escapes me though?? - if the ultrasound comes back inconclusive then I would get this done - a simple sample of blood is taken and they will be able to tell you then and there - I have yet to have it done but I know many who use it if they can not get answers... She sounds to have all the signs to be pregnant - but phantom pregnancy is always a worry - But I was told that girls do not get much bigger in the belly if it is just a phantom, but they can put on weight if the owner is feeding them as a pregnant girl??? I hope all turns out for you - Again the above only accounts for my situation and this is just my first litter so I would wait to hear what others say as well - but I do think if you really do think she is preg then get a second US done somewhere else. Good luck and hope all turns out for the best! Jess
