We had 3 dogs and 3 cats, and pad the sitter $50/day, even tho she was a friend of our kids, we felt that it'd be taking advantage of her if we didn't. The animals are more than happy, well cared for and the dogs walked, and the house spotless to return to. Compared to boarding, its very cheap, and no stress for the animals or us. We are more than happy to pay that amount and enjoy our breaks.

My bitch had open pyo. Over three days the symptoms included her generally being flat, then straining as tho constipated. Then a small discharge, then she cried, and later howled. we had been to the vet and ultrasound showed no swelling, and he said he didn't want to operate overnight. I should have listened to my gut, as she went thru so much pain that night. Next morning she was quiet, but again my gut screamed and i went straight to the vet. Vet took one look and said she was going into shock. She had emergency desexing within 30 minutes. It was open pyo with very little swelling. Thank Dog for Marilyn Gill!

Is A Border Collie For Me?
temperamentfirst replied to New Fur-mumma's topic in General Dog Discussion
We've had Borders for over 25 years and had two daughters in that time. As long as the pup gets mental activity and involvement with the family, and you get a pup from non working lines, you should be fine. oOr dogs definitely love kids, and being part of the family. Also, you need to be aware that the pup will need time out from the children. PM me if you want more info, and also I'd be happy for you to come and meet my dogs. -

Oncologist Recommendations In Sydney

How terrible for you and Zeus - how could the surgery cause this? In people this sort of thing can be caused by a mini stroke during or after surgery - can this happen to dogs? -
Re spotting - my girl spotted after mating, and then quite heavily at 18 days after mating and I took her to the vet. The vet checked for infection, and took blood for prog testing. Told me to come back for ultrasound at 3 weeks. Did ultrasound, and told me very firmly no pup, and the spotting meant her uterus couldn't accept implantation and the prog level indicated not pregnant. Well I was worried re pyo as that can be a consequence of empty bitches, and her abdomen just didn't feel right. Discussed it with a very experienced friend, and at 4 weeks went to breeder vet - for an ultrasound to check for pyo developing. And the very first thing that showed was ... a puppy!!!. The vet, the vet nurse and me were all so happy! It would have been the end of my lines. My bitch spotted the entire pregnancy, sometimes hardly anything, others a bit more. BUT she had nine very healthy pups. lesson - always use an experienced repro vet.

We had 9 pups on 13 April. Ended up with C section for the last 6 - so glad the vet decided when she did as we would have lost at least 2, and maybe the last 5. our first litter in 5 years. All are doing well - they were good sizes and have grown so much. Just love the smell of baby pups :-)

Does anyone know of a good canine acupuncturist in the Lockyer Valley area of Queensland?

I would also look at acupuncture and China Med arthritis formula, and glucosamine chondroitin as well as RHCV.

We had a visiting dog with foul breath. After a few days he was on the same diet as ours, and had a chicken frame for dinner twice a week. His bad breath disappeared!

I'd try her on goats milk and yoghurt rather than divetelact - it does wonders for puppies. -

Have you tried alternative treatments such as acupuncture? WE find it helps a lot. -
Which cafes in Hornsby?
-
We just had a trip to Victoria. Great coffee shop in Wangaratta welcomed our dog, and brought out a water bowl. All but one cafe in Ballarat welcomed her, including the hotel on the lake, where we had a great lazy breakfast. The one that didn't was so apologetic and gave us takeaways, including cutlery, so we were very impressed with country Victoria. I love taking a dog to a cafe, but we do expect a certain standard of behaviour from the dogs.

I am so sorry - it is heartbreaking having to say goodbye - but it's good that you could let her run free, and be with her until the end. Hugs

Where do you live? Sydney Uni vet clinic is doing brilliant work on cruciates, and the dogs are walking almost immediately thanks to the new technique they are using. -

My parents' 3 year old Cocker Spaniel was lethargic on Sunday, vomited a couple of times Monday morning. They took her to the local vet and the bloods showed very elevated enzymes and ultrasound showed enlarged liver. They put her on a drip and gave her anti emetics. Monday evening we moved her to ARH, as the vet was not sure what was happening, and we didn't want her left unattended overnight. So they put her on drip asap as she had dehydrated so much during the 45 minute trip. Her ALT was over 900 - should be 100! Today, Friday, her ALT is 553, so it is gradually coming down. We went through everything she has eaten and any drugs she may have eaten, but she is fussy and I cannot see her eating anything like paracetamol. Also my parents are positive she did not get anything like that. They did change her diet - I didn't know until Tuesday - and for the last few months she has been getting between 2 and 4 chicken wings daily, which apparently she barely chews and eats very quickly.. Has anyone heard of chicken wings having this sort of effect?

They talk about the vet nurses and euthanasia - what about the young ones who are too slow or injured? They are killed by the trainers, ear cut off so the tattoo is missing, and the bodies dumped?
