Just an update - vet has diagnosed incontinence from spaying/weak pelvic floor muscles and prescribed propalin. The side effects sound a bit scary to me, but she only has to try it for a short time and hopefully it will tone the muscles enough to fix the problem. Then we would only need to use it again if there was a re-occurrence of the problem. Although I think I will track down some corn silk tea and also start giving her sweet potato and tofu as these seem like much more pleasant options to keep it in check than the meds. I eat both regularly anyway so it would be easy to just give her some at the same time. Thank you all for your advice and thanks trifecta for your thread.

Thanks all. I have an appointment at the vet this evening, but I did get to speak to him on the phone and the first thing he said was incontinence from spaying. She was desexed a few weeks after I got her, so just over 7 years ago. I am hoping that's all it is.

My dog is around 8ish years old, I've had her for 7 years. She has always been able to sleep through the night without going outside to the toilet, or she lets us know she needs to go outside. She has had very few accidents inside and these were usually when she was home alone (she did it in a corner). During winter, she wet the bed three times over about a week and a half. I should have taken her to the vet then but my partner thought it was just too cold and she didn't want to go outside (she is always reluctant to go outside if it's wet/raining/cold). She didn't do it again until now. It's happened three times again. A few days ago it happened during the night. Last night as we were getting ready for bed, she was already in her bed and she wet it. We let her sleep in our bed, and in the early hours of the morning she wet our bed. Both times were followed by a lot of vagina licking, but it's not red or abnormal looking at all. I am just waiting until 9am so I can call and make an appointment for the vet, I hope they can fit us in today. I've done too much googling about what could be wrong and now I am really stressed out and worried

Does anyone know which rescue group got these dogs from Blacktown Pound (if any).

Because I used Panoramis instead... same flea control properties as comfortis but with heartworm and intestinal worms too. I have been treating the inside of the house extensively... I will try to find some Diatomaceous for the yard as well. I guess I will just have to keep trying... six months geez... they are such nasty little buggers!

I posted a few months back about my dog getting fleas. We recently moved house so I can only assume there was a massive infestation of dormant eggs/pupae in the environment. At first I treated both dog and cat with revolution. Useless. In desperation I went out to woolies and bought around $100 worth of excelpet flea control including capstar - as expected provided temporary relief. The stuff I used on the cat was a 3 month spot treatment. I then bought panoramis to try. The first month it seemed effective. However after a month she was scratching again so I gave her the next dose and it's done nothing. I constantly vacuum anyway but have been doing extra-thorough vacuums and washed all bedding on hot cycles several times. My cat doesn't scratch and I haven't seen a live flea on her, but my poor dog. The scratching is CONSTANT. I have spent so much money already and I just want a product that WORKS. Can anyone suggest anything??

Thanks Hankdog, I was at a loss about how to treat the back yard so I will pop into bunnings and ask. Pain in the bum but probably easier in the long run to some grass or plant in the backyard needing to be constantly pulled out.

Embarrassingly it turned out to be flea allergy dermatitis. She has fleas. I did look but didn't see any on her. They must have been at the new house. I treat both my dog and cat with revolution but obviously it is ineffective. I have capstar for both my cat and dog. She stopped scratching within an hour of taking the capstar so that is a huge relief. I have also treated both with a different spot-treatment and will continue with the capstar if needed. On the weekend I will have to do a big clean to try and get rid of fleas in the house/yard somehow.

I am not really sure if the grass is different. I think that paspalum grass is fairly common and I am sure she would have had contact with it before. Kikuyu grass I am not sure about but I will check. I will definitely be taking her to the vet today as she has scratched so much she is bleeding in some areas

I recently moved house and my staffy x has become extremely itchy. The backyard just looks like normal grass, but there is some mondo grass along a path. Inside I washed the floors with a steam mop, no chemicals. Nothing else has really changed. Her bedding is the same. I haven't washed it so it wouldn't be a reaction to detergent. She has broken out in a rash before when I lived at a place with wandering jew, and there is definitely none of that in the garden. When she first got itchy, there was no redness or rash on her skin. Her skin is broken and red now but I think that is from the constant scratching. I have washed her with dog shampoo for sensitive skin but it hasn't helped. There are no fleas but she was due for a spot treatment anyway and I used Revolution. Im going to take her to the vet but in the meantime any suggestions?

I have two dog coats I bought for my dog but are too small - both just cheapies made from that puffy type material. One is pink and says princess and the other is lilac with a fur-trimmed hood :laugh: My dog is approx 20kg, staffy x and they are only sightly too small for her. If any rescue wants them to keep their doggies warm this winter I am happy to drop them off if the rescue is close by (western sydney).

When someone on facebook suggested their food should be in vermin proof containers, they were rudely told there are "no vermin" there. Now they have more than their fair share of mice so need to let cats roam free. Righto.

It's not a crisis or anything so I dont know if PACERS would be appropriate.

What are the options if a person needs long term care for their pets (eight months). The cost of commercial boarding would be huge and probably not great for the pets. Are there any other options (for a cat and a dog).

Is it worth getting the date changed before you pay anyway? Otherwise they might think your dog was out twice, a month apart, and you will get another infringement with the correct date. Or am I being silly?
