If she's done something she shouldn't have. We don't call her over and then punish her. We'll go and get her and then punish her, which is usually time out.
-
No. Never done that, we were aware right from the start if we did that it would lead to problems.. If she's in trouble we just go and pick her up. How would I go about finding a behaviourist? and what sort of things would they do with her?

I'd appreciate some advice on this.. I'm currently working weekly with a dog trainer but I'd like some more information/hints. Kyra is absolutely horrified of strangers, if we have a visitor she runs and hides, won't come out until they leave, she's started getting barky around children, she'll stand on the spot and just constantly bark until they move away, she's constantly acting like she's been beaten up, which she most certainly hasn't, she's had nothing but love since coming to us and it's becoming increasingly frustrating trying to figure out why she's like this.. She'll also run away with her tail between her legs when we call her name, as if she's in trouble.. I'm honestly not sure why she is becoming so timid, it certainly isn't anything to do with being mistreated, has anybody else been through this with a dog or pup, where their dog gets more and more timid with age? it's really quite upsetting when she runs away with her tail in between her legs, it makes me feel like I've done something wrong by her. Any help or suggestions would be really great.. Thanks.

Chubby boy! hope he's alright..

Apparently it's very common in Staffys. My puppy is the same at the moment but she's slowly getting better, it's a pain but we're trying to lengthen the time she spends outside so she gets used to being on her own a bit more. She just wants to be everywhere we are and if she can't be, she kicks up a fuss. I don't really have any advice but just wanted to let you know you're not alone

Also would I have to start off with a pup with these sports? if I got a slightly older dog do you think it could still work out?
-
Flyball and Agility are what i'm leaning towards.. I've contacted a few breeders and stated what i'm after etc but only a couple have got back to me.. and one was only to say their last pup was sold last week I'd really prefer to get a pup from a breeder in WA.. it's proving to be quite difficult though.

Hey everyone When I eventually get my GSD i'd love to get into some kind of dog sport with him/her.. just wanted some suggestions on some good fun sports that both you and your dog seem to enjoy which are also suitable for GSD's, also if you're in Perth, where abouts do you go? Thanks

Aww what a shame.. poor girl. Yep we have walked her in a quiet place, the local lake, it is very quiet during the day, no traffic around and hardly any people. Haha no, she doesn't make the rules but it's more of a fight trying to get her going on collar and lead than harness and lead. And limited slip collars? never heard of them where can you find them?
-
I use a harness because she absolutely HATES a lead attached to a collar. And I feel I have more control of her in a harness where as she might be able to pull out of her collar if she tried hard enough. She's been carried around the neighbourhood a few times. She's been socialised with quite a few people, friends/family and such. And no I haven't tried feeding her when it's on, I'll give it a go.

Alright, I've held off from posting this because I know she's only little and might not seem like a big deal to most people but I'm at my wits end! MY PUP HATES WALKING!! As soon as I get the harness and lead out, she runs. Upon catching her, she puts up a fight while I'm trying to put it on. Once we get out the door, she sits down and won't move. After a tug on the lead she starts walking, only to stop for god knows how long as soon as she sees another person on the foot path - which you generally do, everyday. After they've passed, it's another battle to get her to walk again! and same goes, as soon as someone else walks by, she stops! she watches them, nothing else, just sits there and watches them until they move on. If i try and drag her along, she makes us both look absolutely pathetic, so that soon came to a stop. What can I do?? I've been practising lead walking since the day she came home, she's fine at home but when we're out, the problems start! someone please give me some ideas, it's driving me nuts. :shakehead:

I'll be needing a sunscreen to put on my pups nose & ears in the next few weeks when she'll start spending more time out the back. My friend said an all natural children's sunscreen would be fine, is that right? or should I look into something else? and do I need to put it on her whenever it's sunny or just when it's horrible, scorching weather? Thanks

No problemo

She's cute Can I ask what breeder you got her from? I'm not trying to be a nosey parker I'm just trying to find out some names of breeders of a few Stafford's/am staffs that ppl have that I like the look of for when I purchase my second dog. Gotta love brindles..I have a real soft spot for them, congrats on your new little girl :D

Hey guys :D We've made good progress since posting this thread, she now wanders outside on her own for a wee!! we were taking her out every hour or so and standing with her, rewarding her with treats and lots and lots of fuss afterwards! she still does the occasional wee inside but she's really getting quite good at it she's such a quick learner, she knows her name, sit and now also, to pee outside and she's only been with us for one week We are very proud of our little angel and thank you guys for helping us out with some great advice
