  1. Black male greyhound urgently needs help. Harry was recently retired from racing and now only has till this Friday to find a home or Harry will be sent to the RSPCA. I am able to assist with transportation if there is anyone who can help him. Please contact me for the owners details. They have been trying for weeks to rehome him but people say they will come and dont turn up. Harry is currently living in the Wollongong / Dapto area.
  2. I have a couple if someone can tell me where to post them. Thanks Karen
  3. That looks like the woody I had at home. Will contact them re microchip details. I am still happy to temp care and transport (especially by favourite greys) but I would like a more 'switched on' council. They left it from June last year and then send me another letter. I don't get it. Thanks for all the help. Karen
  4. I transported and looked after (for a few days) a male, brindle greyhound for a rescue in Victoria. The dogs name was woody and he went to Vic by gte transport about 12-18 months ago. My local council are giving me grief as woody is microchipped in my name. After stat decs were accepted in June last year they are now on my case again. If the rescue could pm me with their details I will have it changed over. Thanks Karen
  5. I have 3 small fleece dog rugs to give to a rescue or pound. Please let me know if anyone can us them.
  6. And to the mums and dads who have helped. My mum and dad have helped me by picking up dogs from the pound for me when I was fostering them. Dad for building a whelping box in 2 hours when a desperate greyhound in the pound was already whelping and needed urgent help. Or mum for taking a dog to the airport and putting it in the crate whilst shedding tears for the dog she had only know for a few weeks. Again thanks to mum who gives the evil eye to those surrendering their dog to the pound for a stupid reason and finally thanks from the poor little dog at the pound that was being hosed at the back of the kennel because it was too small to jump onto the bed out of the way, that kennel girl sure was told the right way to hose a kennel out. The unsung heros of rescue, transporting and fostering.

  8. I am trying to track down a book on training 'search and rescue dogs and the DVD 'What is your dog saying'. Have only found them in USA stores but was hoping that someone maybe able to suggest where I can buy them in Australia.
  9. I would love the details if you could send them to me. Thanks for your help Karen
  10. Sorry my description was a bit off. Private lessons are fine. I just didn't want to go to a session where there were many dogs and you only have a short session of work.
  11. Does anyone know of any courses that cover 'scent detection' in NSW. Would prefer one on one training course.
  12. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase some secondhand agility equipment. I'm after a couple of jumps, tunnel, A frame, weaving poles and a see-saw. . Yes basically the whole set. Would be for a medium size dog They would need to be located in NSW. Thanks Karen
  13. I don't do any obedience or agility trialling but I love to watch Hungarian Puli's doing agility - please don't take offence but they look like a flying mop when they launch over the jumps.
  14. There is a good web site: loveyourdog.com .It gives you a variety of tricks to teach your dog as well as how to do it and a video of the trick. Might be worth a look for ideas
  15. I am trying to find a martingale collar that is wider than the usual types I have seen. I am wanting one about 35-40mm or more wide. Can anyone help?
  16. I was given the following advise and it worked within minutes. (I've seen it work on a few dogs) Place the dog on a table. If he stands there - click and treat. My dog was was unsure of being high up so he just stood there - stunned I think - but it really worked. Now he does a stand from the drop position. Might be worth a shot
  17. I buy mine from 'Kumalong' but they are only plain colours
  18. Thanks for the help. Yes he is a Koolie. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old, he has plenty of dogs at home to play with and he is quite submissive. It is only when he is on lead. I have not done any obedience with him but I have done some herding with him. When he is with the sheep and off lead he is so much more rsponsive to me. I will try the other suggestions ie tug games and see if this can take his attention away from the other dogs and onto me.
  19. I'm not sure if anyone can help or recommnd a web site to help me but I have had problems with my dog showing strong dog distraction whilst passing dogs behind fences or on the street. He doesn't have any aggression he just wants to investigate and this leads to him crying when approaching dogs behind the fence and dragging me towards dogs on the street. (and boy he knows where they are before I can even see them) I have tried to pull him away but he just gets stronger. I have seen obedience and agility dogs working past other dogs so maybe someone can help. Hope its not to late to stop him doing it as he turned 3yrs in April. Karen
  20. Another good natural product to add to the fish oil and glucosomine is 'Seatone - Green Lipper Muscles'. We feed this to all of our racing Greyhounds daily as a precaution. The vet said that if they are getting the slightest hint of arthritis is will help
  21. Good question. any suggestions? I d be interested too. Not just a young pup, what about an older pup too, 18 months old? Is this a lost cause? I think the idea of a treat jar on the fence that I suugested above would work with an older dog if they food driven. Just make sure the treats are different to their normal food ie liver. It may work
  22. Just call me thick tonight - I forgot about Google. This is great. Thanks for your help
  23. In my job I work with pups everyday. The easiest way we have found to teach them to toilet in a designated area is: 1. Decide the spot you woulds like the dog to toilet. 2. Attach a treat jar onto the fence at the area you wish them to toilet. 3. Take the pup to the area on lead and give him a toilet command. 4. When he toilets give him a treat out of the jar and give lots of praise. The pup will learn to go to this spot as when it goes to the toilet a treat is given. Gradually reduce the treats. It is a bit time consuming at first but as long as everyone in the house does it the same way it will work out well. I found this in a book from America. I wasn't convinced it would work but some of our puppy carers have found it work very well Karen
