i wear a bikini top. i still get the prickly bits on my boobs, but not so much because its just a triangle worth! and i find i dont have the itching from the strap at the back. when i get home i shower straight away and rinse the bikini top off in the shower. i have about three and i rotate day by day which gives them time to dry. you could put them on the line every day to let the hair blow out too.

I Have A Schnauzer That Is Scared Of Her Bum!
shmoo replied to milly01's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
anal glands are meant to be released when she does a poo. if she wasnt releasing them, i am sure you would know... it is the most foulest smell around her bum area. i would try another vet. ive never heard a vet call a dog psychotic. -

Groomers - What Scissors Do You Use?
shmoo replied to shmoo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
oh yes of course! i will be sending them to be sharpened! but i also want a 6" inch pair. -
Currently I only have Wahl 7" (my first pair) and Jaguar 7". Both these are a bit blunt and need sharpening! I know there are much better scissors out there than these ones. And i am now looking for a 6" pair. Can anybody recommend a brand? Regardless of price.. i will be weighing out the costs when I go to purchase!

Premium Dog Foods...too Expensive!

exactly. -
how often are you bathing your pup? i wouldnt bath him any less than every two weeks. the shampoos can cause the oils to strip from the coat, leaving the skin very dry and can produce the flaking effect. definatly get off the canned food and switch to a more natural diet with raw foods and bones. try some more omega 3 in his diet too.

i had a good one today. One of our clients who owns a "Moodle" has just bought a puppy from the pet shop a few months ago. Today he came in for his first groom (just a bath now he has had his 3 vaccs.). She was told upon purchase he was a Cocker Spaniel x Shih Tzu. When I saw him at 10 weeks first thing i said was You Serious?!. Well he now looks like a Beagle x Foxie. Shaped just like a Beagle, markings like a Foxy. Today when she asked me again what I thought he was and i replied Beagle x Foxie. Then she said "that cant be right.. i mean how could the breeders have gotten it wrong? wouldnt they be good breeders at the pet shop?"

had a good one today... client asked us to give her dog a long cut. after some gentle explaining that we couldnt... i shaved her off as a #10. managed to get most of the coat off in a big sheet. she was matted right down to the toes and her ears were matted to her head. owner said she went away and her son didnt look after her dog. meanwhile the owner tells us its OUR fault she is matted. WTF?!?! how can it be our fault if you dont bring the dog to us! eta: it was a shih tzu mutt thing.

Do You Measure Your Dogs Food And Bones?
shmoo replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
my boys and foster dogs always get 250grams of mince (chicken, lamb etc) every night. and always have access to dry food. they would go through about 2x cups a day of dry food. so not alot for 4 small dogs :D they are all fit and active. when i leave bones out for them during the day i cut back on there dinner. today they had some yummy lamb bones and so no dinner tonight. just dry. there was plenty of meat on the bones and they are still chewing on them now! -
that is very nice!! i had a pretty average day today. a couple of shave offs. a Moodle. Who ever thought the curl of a poodle but the texture of a Maltese would be a good mix is an idiot. this dog looked like a poodle, but its hair matted like a maltese. i had to shave it off mostly as a #7. i did a #5 in the parts i could. *sigh*

i dont think i could be a mobile.. im not that organised!!!

What is the worst coat to clip that you have found? worst clip would have to be 2 pug x shihtzu's i have. they have this wirey coat that ends up with track marks on it no matter how i clip it! thank god they always get a #7 and dont let it grow... it would be hiddious! Why can't owners ensure that fluffy or benji empty out before they bring them? at the salon we joke about hiring somebody just to pick up all the poo and mop the wee.... but the joke seems become more serious with each day. Why do owners say "He has never done that before" after fluffy trys to reduce your number of fingers or shorten your nose. Ours are pretty honest actually!! Worst injury ive had at work so far is when i caught the top of my finger on the rake while doing a BC. almost needed stitches!! Do you get many dogs who have coats that matt to the skin overnight? today i shaved FOUR dogs off as #10 they were so matted. it screwed up all the other appointments because i didnt expect to be spending so long on these dogs. Why is that the nicest dogs with the best owners, who bring you morning tea and always remember you at Xmas, move away?? haha this is true!! we have clients that are so darling... one bought us a cake last week. a few of them tip us and many praise us everytime they see us. its nice to be appreciated for all the hard work. at xmas time we get lots of chockies!!

i clipped off two maltese girls today. both as a #10 all over. managed to save the ears and tail. poor things were so cold.... you could see all their freckles on their little bodies.

if this Vet was right... why is Parvo still one of the worst diseases out there!? edited: cause i make no sense.
-
your OH brushes her? well there is your problem!! cockers have such a thick coat. i had a cocker last week i had to shave off #15 and was considering sending her to the vets at one point because it was so tight around her legs. the owners were really upset at themselves for letting her get that bad! they do usually brush her, but they had let her go a little, but didnt realise how bad it had gotten. they have booked themselves to come back in every week for a check up to make sure she doesnt get that way again! they were really lovely about it and i explained that when a dog starts to get matted it gets out of control very quickly because it spreads. we also agreed to let her grow out and we would stop at a level they were comfortable brushing her at home at, but also a level that will survive on a monthly groom. i think some people just look at the surface but dont actually pull the hair apart and look down to the skin to see the matting.

we do educate the owners that bring dogs in like this. we show them the tools we use and how we use them. we also sell brushes etc in our salon and often they take our advice and buy them. yes this was the first time we saw this dog. i think it was its first ever trip to the salon. i hate doing these kind of cuts on a dog for the first time because its not usually fun and they are made to stand on the table a lot longer than normal and there is always the added risk of me nicking their skin! not fun!
