all my dogs and fosters wear martingales at all times with names tags attached. the new fosters always pick up walking on them quickly, and learn not to "choke" themselves. here is buster one of our foster doggies (we got his tag this week, so its not on in this old photo)

Anyone Here Feed There Dog Rabbit?
shmoo replied to koolietas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
did a google search and found this. seems to be the general consensus. -

see that is FAR to short IMO, I would be worried about sundamage, clipper burn and just general itchies, some owners are completely hopeless. my boss did a pugxcav today on a #10 because the coat was so thick. there was no skin showing for sun burn, and we arent retards we can clip shot without giving clipper burn. some coats are thick enough to clip off that short. hell i clipped sweep and ricko (in my sig) on a #10 on the weekend. no rashes, no sun damage (yes i take them to the park) and no itchies.
-
people dont care about what the coat will look like down the track. people dont care how to coat grows back. if you had a golden come to you full of matts and hot spots from being neglected, your telling me you would brush it all out and treat the hot spots, only for it to go home and be matted again in a couple of weeks and the hot spots have spread?

two vets i can recommend are Riverstone Vets and West Ryde Vets. Im getting all three of my dogs teeth cleaned next wed at Riverstone plus a vaccination for the two boys and its going to come to about $1000. i think thats a fair price.

I'm sorry but I have to ask, WHY would you agree to clip these?? It simply makes no sense. its not my call, i work for a lady who owns her own salon. but it isnt uncommon. we get alot of these shot haired dogs wanting clips on #10-#15.

All the BC's I clip, arent done for looks. And Im sure most are the same. The dogs are always happy to have their coat off, usually they are happy and bouncy at the end of their clip, and are done because they are in tick areas, and it also keeps fleas off because they are easier to spray. It prevents hot spots occurring, And especially when they are on working stations, they keep free from burrs and spikes from the grass. I agree Silverblue.. We aint all bad. IMO The franchises are the bad guys.. hmmm have to agree with you on everything regarding the clipping of BC's....BUT cant agree with the franchises being the bad guys i bought into a franchise 6months ago and i havent had issues and all my customers keep coming back...i have heard rumours of other franchise that arnt that crash hot...im pretty sure i do good work....in what way do franchises suck???? not trying to have a go or anything just curious as why we are the bad guys? i believe you can buy a franchise with no grooming experience. and these are the people that bring the franchises down and give a bad name for the rest of them.

This is something I really don't understand, people who buy a long coated/double coated breed and then clip it. Once they're clipped they look nothing like their breed at all, there is a clipped samoyed near me and it looks like some sort of terrier cross. There are plenty of short haired breeds to choose from, why buy a dog that needs regular and/or specialised coat care if you don't want to groom it? we ask that same question all day at work. hell when im clipping off Lab's and short haired JRT's because they moult i ask myself why do they have a dog? the average person does not research what kind of dog they want before they get it. they just get the cute one in the pet shop window (and it turns out NOTHING like they thought it would) or they get one from a rescue that lies through their teeth about grooming requirements.
-
and i agree, most of the time they should have. but they didnt. and now they have a dog they are not prepared to brush daily, wash, or check for ticks. so they get them clipped. compared to Samoyed, Mals etc. the BC coat grows back much better.

sydney, salon in Manly.

thats cause we are poocow :D and yes Borders are fine to clip. we do them all the time. its the double coated dogs like Samoyed, Malamutes and Keeshond that dont grow back properly. they get this awful fizz for an undercoat and it seems to grow much faster than the top coat.. making the dog look like an uneven scruffy fizzy fluff that dead hair locks into. its terrible.
-
you dont, but lots of people do. its easier for them to manage.

i cant see the link but im pretty sure i know what it is. this has been done before and its bullshit.

Useful And Not-so-useful Dog Grooming Implements
shmoo replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i second this. i have some samoyeds i use a matt comb and some i use a slicker brush. the samoyed coat can vary alot, so i tend to try different things out until i find the best one that works. it also depends on how well one can groom. some people have no idea how to use a slicker or matt comb properly. samoyed man, i take Harvey (malamute) to the DIY dog grooming place in Castle Hill. if you like i can meet you there one Sunday and show you how to groom your samoyed :D -
just about. he felt about as heavy.
-
i think around 8 yrs. i have a bad memory! he will be lucky if his organs can make it past 10yrs.
-
no, owners are not over weight. nor are the kids in the family. i know, they cant seem to get it through their thick heads that its no way for a dog to live. they think that because he woofs his food down and always enjoys treats that that must mean he is hungry!!
-
and another eta: i dont know why this pic wont go smaller, sorry
-
here are some more shots of him. ive never seen such an over weight dog myself. its really sad. he does nothing all day but eat. the kids of the family cant even play with him cause he can hardly move around. he is such a lovely friendly boy too. eta:cant get the pics the right size.
