  1. Thats a good point re: medication and settling in. Apart from his crappy coat, he is very lively, gobbles down his food and acts just like he did before he was ill. Could the poor coat be simply because of the diabetes? He has a big appetite and the vet said its the type/brand of insulin. There is a more expensive insulin (twice the cost) which I will consider down the track, but until I pay off his vet bill I need to save every dollar I can.
  2. He certainly does not have a bloated belly! He is very thin, it's hard to keep weight on him with this vet diet. I have worked with rescue dogs with Cushing and I don't think he has Cushings, but I will check and see how much it would cost to get tested.
  3. So, do I take samples of what is needed and send them to Dr Dodds? I don't think he was tested for Thyroid, no. I will call around the specialists and my vet on Friday (my day off) and see what tests I can get done to get some idea of whats going on. Thanks everybody for the suggestions/help
  4. He has those symptoms and I mentioned that to my vet and she said its the diabetes and the insulin. Will see how much that test costs ty
  5. Sweep has been a diabetic for a few months now and I have noticed his hair is thinning out and the spots where he was shaved at the vets are not growing back much at all. Any suggestions? He is on a strict diet of vet prescribed food.
  6. Sounds more like dreaming that night terrors. One of my dogs has night terrors - I don't notice the dreaming part, but he will sudden wake up and growl/attack anything near him in defense. He only does this for a split second and then looks confused. He has improved over the years, in fact I can't remember the last time he had one.
  7. You say she is brushed, but is she knot free? Can you run a comb through her hair from skin to end of the hair with out snagging? I love how people think it looks straight forward Having the same tools doesn't make up for a lack of expertise.
  8. Very true about the area. In the Western Sydney the prices are ridiculously lower than in the North, but thats because thats all people are willing to pay in this area.
  9. Susan Thixton is not overly supportive of the product
  10. Taken from Wikipedia Dogs that have ingested foods containing high levels of xylitol (greater than 100 milligram of xylitol consumed per kilogram of bodyweight) have presented with low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) which can be life-threatening.[27] Low blood sugar can result in a loss of coordination, depression, collapse and seizures in as soon as 30 minutes.[28][29] Intake of very high doses of xylitol (greater than 500 - 1000 mg/kg bwt) has also been implicated in liver failure in dogs, which can be fatal.[30] These are points of controversy, however, as earlier World Health Organization studies using much higher doses on dogs for long periods showed no ill effect. [31] The ingredients in AquaDent are listed as follows: Purified water, Glycerine, Xylitol, Polysorbate 20, Potassium sorbate, Emilgase (enzyme), Zinc gluconate, Sodium benzoate, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Yellow No. 5, Chlorhexidine gluconate. So perhaps check how much is ratio of Xylitol to the volume the bottles are sold in. That would be something the manufacturing company could answer I would hope...
  11. I fighting to hold back tears. I'm so sorry for your loss. Try not to think about what you have lost, but all the good times you had.
  12. I clean my dogs teeth irregularly but I will have to start doing my diabetic dogs teeth more regularly since he can no longer have bones. When he was sick in the specialist hospital the vet could not believe his good his teeth were for his age.
  13. I'm so sorry to hear. Hold in there, I bet Frazer is a strong fighter and is doing all he can to get himself home asap.
  14. My boy Sweep has diabetes and Pancreatitis. He is on Royal Canin Digestive Low Fat which is a vet prescribed diet.
  15. No way a fully fledged groomer would get that much in Syd!
  16. $20 an hour seems an average wage.
  17. I didn't put any of Dex up sorry! They are very average. The only one that I kinda like is this one and it's not very suitable for a calendar due to the shape
  18. Hrm my pictures of Dex are very average. Will have to take some more!
  19. Try creating an account and uploading them to an image hosting website such as http://www.photobucket.com/ Best of luck for the poor fella.
