Sounds like you have everything under control and I guess at the end of the day they arent your dogs and to shoulder the cost of the grooming should not be your problem. Just so you know if you do decide to bath them yourself, the matts they already have will become much worse once the water hits them, so if they have any down to the skin already you may have to split them with the scissors to prevent the matts pulling on the skin. Sounds like your SIL got on board with the "labradoodle" craze not knowing how much time is needed (training, grooming etc) with these particular crosses. Good luck.

Thanks MTD!!

Hi Luke, do you have any idea what is causing it? One of my girls gets tear staining on only one eye and I asked the vet about it and on close examination the vet thinks she could see tiny little eye lashes growing on the inside of the eye lid which causes irritation and therefore makes the eye weep causing the tear staining. I asked the vet if it can be fixed and she said it can but they are unwilling to sedate a dog to fix the problem as it is not a huge issue but they would however do the procedure if she had to have something else done at the same time. This may not be the trouble with your boy and Im unsure what else would cause the problem in one eye only? Hope someone else has some clues. I have tried some stuff called crystal eye, but you have to keep at it all the time. also I had a friend tel me once the dog is bathed and dryed and brushed etc cut away the stained area if possible and then apply vasiline to the area, this does work however once again it is something you have to keep up on a regular basis.

I also meant to say that Archie looks very tired!! He is a cute boy!! Another thing is the smell would definalty be due to the matts and what is caught in them and the facial matts would have horrible food smells in them. Generally these dogs dont have a strong doggy odour!

:D I agree with Husky, is there any way you could call your brother and see if you can get them clipped, maybe tell a little furfy and say they rolled in something disgusting and they need to be done!! As Poodlefan said the matting is clearly visiable, under thier ears would be a night mare not to mention between thier toes around thier back ends and other problem areas. A groomer would not even look at trying to get the matts out, more than likely clip them down to the skin!! I know a lot of people with these types of dogs and they love the long look but dont take into consideration the care factor for the dog, how uncomfortable they must be, also they both look to be matted badly around their faces either side of thier noses, not to mention they cant see!! Also as Miranda said the skin irritation is probly due to no air getting under where the fur is matted. I hope you can help them it may be a reality check for your SIL when they get home but if they looked after them in the first place you wouldnt have even started this thread.

:D great pic of Archie, he obviously loves his tucker!!

Hey Pandii, is it Sue you have seen? The last lot of times I have been in I have seen Craig, he is married to Sue. Tenties & Pandii, am curious to the comments about lava street, can you post here? or pm me. I have lots of friends that go there and say they are the best, and cheaper than anywhere else!

One of them is a little matted around the back legs etc but not too bad. The other has a lovely coat overall, obviously needs washing though. I know their coats must be really hard to keep in tip top shape all the time but to best honest I am a little cross with my brother (and SIL who was the one that wanted them in the first place the most) sending them to us un-groomed etc. But what can you do ? Family ??? ! These dogs are inside/outside dogs normally but ungroomed and a bit smelly I just don't want them running around inside, especially because our living area and hallway are not that big. I feel like if my brother & SIL expected them to be inside they could've at least prepared them for it. Anyway, vent over .... In the end, I left them outside overnight last night (tried them in the laundry but one would not stop crying and outside we have massive kennel that our pup doesn't really use yet as he sleeps inside) ... still, the neurotic one barked quite alot of the night. Anyway, since the weather here in Sydney is forecast for nice all week, I will investigate some local groomers today. There is one at our vets so that will be first port of call. thanks everyone ! I have 4 and dont find it hard at all!! I know what you mean being a bit mad if they came back clipped or different without the owner permission - I would be the same .... but if my bro/SIL really cared about their appearance that much, I'm sure they would've made the effort to bath/groom them before they went away. Yes you are so right, more than likely if they are not matted and just need a bath, they may not even notice, how long ago have they been clipped? Also as you said if they do notice it may incourage them to keep it up a little more at home. Do you have any pics of your pups playing with them? Id love to see some.

I have just gone back to read the rules and just for the record in no way am I trying to promote the oodle, just trying to help out a fellow doler. No promotion of cross breeds / designer dogs This site has nothing against cross breeds (most of us have had one at some stage in our life), however we are against the promotion of them as being superior to the purebred dog and people cashing in on the 'designer dog' craze. We also ask that you refrain from unnecessary designer dog discussion. (ie discussion that has no real purpose other than to express dismay at the latest 'cross breed' you saw (or read about)). Sure, we all know they are out there, but we prefer to concentrate on discussing the pure bred dog. The discussion at hand is about helping out a lovely lady who only wants to do the best for the dogs, which is very commendable!!

I dont think it is so much that cross breeds are frowned upon, more so the way they come about and how they are purposely bred etc etc. But lets not go down that road, you are doing your brother a favor and I think that is great considering the dogs ar eonly young with no training you sound like you will have a full on week. Having these type of dogs I do get annoyed at hearing of other owners that dont seem to understand what thier coats need in terms of grooming and what they as the cross that they are need in terms of training. usually they are high energy and need lots of daily excersise and stimulation to keep them occupied and out of mischief especailly at an early age!! Sorry I have gotten a bit off topic here, It will be interesting to find out how much a groomer will charge you for the grooming. will your brother be ok to find that you have gone ahead and had them groomed while he was gone, I guess you are doing him a favour but if I left mine with someone and came home to find them clipped Id be livid but then I guess I dont let mine get into a state with thier coats to begin with. Your brother is lucky to have you by the sounds of it!!

I only just fed my lot ox tounge a couple of days ago, i cooked it and added some to thier normal meal they thought it was christmas. Should I have cooked it, mine are not big on any type of meat that is raw unless it is mince of chopped beef or on a bone, any other part of the animal they wont eat raw so anythime they get heart, kidney, liver, tounge etc I cook it. How much nutritional value do I lose if I am cooking this offal type meat??

I guess it would depend where you are in my town, say my oldest dog who is smaller than the regular labradoodle size but would have a similar coat would be around $60 for a full wash and groom (clip) but if thier coats are badly matted it will be more expensive unless you want them clipped back to nothing, which is sometimes what they do other wise they can spend hours combing out matts if they are really bad. I have friends in the city who have similar sized oodles to my smaller ones and they pay up around $100 for a full grooming session. Not quite sure why you think you would get roused on for looking after your brothers dogs? Why are they not sensible are they pups or are they intrained? All the Lab poodle crosses I have seen and trained have been brilliant and very clever!! Good luck I bet yoru pup will have fun playing with them.

vet products direct is cheaper with a lot of stuff, frontline oticlean and aloveen conditioner is so much cheaper there than anywhere around here.
-
Love this one, can I ask how you did it??
-
Thats great that there is no cateracts!! Pics of Sebbi in his new coat, please!! Is advocate the stuff you have to give them every 4 weeks? My auntie uses it on her little dog and she reckons after 3 and half weeks she starts scratching and she needs to reapply. I dont use advocate as I worm with tablets, for fleas I use advantage in the summer months or frontline plus if we are going away.

Oh Thats terrible, what can they do for him if it is? Can they take them off?? Let us know how you get on. Yea Coops ok but it is a slow process, I took him to Melbounre with me which has probly set him back a day or so but he is definatley on the mend.

I use the pet jet, it attaches like a normal outdoor hose you can use it inside. I use mine in the bath, it is fantastic and it has a shampoo thingy to hold the shampoo if you dont want to put the shampoo straigh on the dogs coat. It is also pressurized so the water is so much faster than it would be strait out of the tap. I paid $89 for mine but you can get them at kmart for $50 (approx) http://www.amazon.com/Pet-Jet-Washer/dp/B000UFI2WS http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...fm?pcatid=12076 edited to add, perhaps I read your original post wrong and it is only the tap fitting you are looking for??

I am in agreeance with the other posters while pup is growing light on the full on excersise, to many things can come of over excersising young dogs. Especailly if your pup is a pup that is like an energiser battry and wants to go and go, we have to make the decision for them when enough is enough!! Even my guys (who are like energisers) after a full on day sometimes don't wanna do anything the next day, so I would say your pup is just recovering from a busy day!

Are the scary boat trailers like the wierd guys at the beach with the bog white things under thier arms

Hi Guys, I spent the day on Melbourne today, just got home. I took my boys with me and the girlies stayed hom with my OH. Cooper is ok but probly a bit too much on his foot today he will need an extra couple of recovery days I think but at least he got out of the house for the day!! Tez did your Sis take Jane to training today, good luck with her at the vets on Wednesday, let us know how she gets on? JJ and Pandii, how was your walk? Did you get any photos today? JJ, do you know what would be the usual amount of days on the tablets (Rimadyl) for a case such as Coopers? Im just curious as he was meant to have 4 per day for the first 4 days then 2 a day for the rest but the thing is on the little bottle it says 20 tablents but there is about 40 tablets. 4 a day for 4 days and 2 a day for the next 2 days would be 30 making 6 days of tablets, does this sound right or should the course be longer? as I have a lot more tablets. Might have to ring the vet and find out if he give me to many tablets??
