All good points to consider and food for thought. When I shoot at our dog training days sometimes the 70-200 is not quite long enough and I imagine when you shoot agility you would really notice it as its quite fast moving and would be in a larger area. The 100-400 would be awesome for that then the crop factor or lack there of wouldn't be an issue. lol@G139!

Thanks JJ, we went to Albert Park today, I've been steering clear of there as the grass has been long and under the trees is atrocious. But it has been mowed in the last few days thankfully. I was still wary of Snakes though it was pretty warm in the sun today.

If your budget allows get the 6D, its awesome and coupled with the 24-70 f.2.8 Sigma it is a wicked combo! I have that and other lenses but really with the 70-200f/4 (I love it too) together with the 24-70 you have a lot of the focal lengths covered. With regard to losing some magnification with the full frame, the benefits of the full frame totally outweigh the magnification factor, I have not noticed it all all. I learnt pretty quickly using prime lens to zoom with my feet so if I want to get closer I just take a few steps forward. I guess this isn't always an option depending on what your shooting but you can always get a longer lens! the 100-400L would be an awesome option especially for the dogs and it give you another whole range over the 70-200. The IQ looks to be the same as they are both L. Just my experience having owned the 7D and the 6D, for me it's not hard to compare I didn't like the 7D much I had a real love hate relationship with it, but the 6D I love I mean really seriously love it, better low iso performance nicer bokeh and DOF from the full frame is a winner for me. That being said my friend bought my 7D off me and it loving it! I ended up getting a 430 ex II and it serves its purpose, I mostly shoot in daylight and use it occasionally for fill flash and sometimes for macro stuff. Good luck with your decision its a big one!

Where abouts in town did the dogs get bit JJ? We haven't been out and about much lately between the heat and the grass seeds and burs we have been lying low only going to areas very short.

Does he do it mainly around her ears but any chance? Bronson does this to Lacy, she lets him but if I see him doing it I nip it in the bud. To me it's an nwanted behaviour, he doesn't do it all the time and only does it to Lacy not the other dogs. I'd love to know why too. Edited to add while doing the licking he will try to put one leg on her back as if he is going to hump her but he never gets far as she doesn't let him, so maybe a dominance thing?

Happy new year guys, I've loved this thread this year even though I piked out earlier on. I've still kept taking lots of my guys all together but just never seem to find time to get them here. Leah the secret to my guys hair cuts is to leave the ears and tails the same and only trim the rest of their coats, they get a hair cut about every 8 weeks and I use a guide comb on the clippers so they don't have to be as short as the blade cuts.

Hi Sunny1shine, There is a few dog friendly cafes with outdoor area you can have your dog. Down on Pertobe Rd there is Simons, it is like a restaurant/cafe looking over the ocean, they have a big outdoor area where dogs are allowed. There is the Main beach Kiosk which has a seat outside, very informal it is basically next to Simons you can see each place from the other. In town there is a few cafes with seats outside that allow dogs. One down the North end of Liebig Street, it used to be called Brockys not sure what it is called now. The pavilion down by the breakwater has a massive outdoor area where you can have dogs. Enjoy your holiday by the Sea.

Congrats, I can almost smell the puppy breath from here! Happy Birthday Husky, do you get to keep a pup?
-
Well done Clay! That puppy pic of Harvey is adorable! G139, the 50mm 1.4 or the 85mm 1.8 are both great, the 85mm especially has amazing bokeh! I started out with the 50mm 1.8 and for a cheap lens it's pretty good. The 70-200 f/2.8 is definatley on my wish list one day but for the time being I've got the f/4 and it's amazing too. I hadn't used my 24-70 f/2.8 lot but I did a shoot for a family the other day and the pictures were great, mines the sigma version and it's pretty amazing!

Happy Birthday Harvey and Clay, where does the time go? Beautiful pictures everyone! G139, are you still using the 24-70? The bokeh from that lens is quite amazing!

He looks like a Floyd to me! Super cute!

Yea after more investigation it seems that as long as they are not distracting the driver in any way it's ok.
-
Yep that makes sense, it's common sense really, I've recently got myself a barrier for between the two front seats so if the dogs are in the back seat they can't get over the front but on long trips they are clipped in anyway or in the back of the wagon behind the other cargo barrier. Jess they look good, similar in looks and price to the click it. How's your pup going, I guess not a pup any more!

We were posting at the same time. I'm still unsure about the actual laws as far as restraining, the article says "It is not a legal requirement that pets be restrained in a vehicle - rather, road users can be fined or lose points from their license if they have an animal on their lap while driving, while in some cases a driver could be fined for negligent driving if an animal is causing a distraction to the driver." So if that's the case they can be in the back seat behind a barrier but not be strapped or clipped in?
-
This one and This one seem to be the recommended harnesses to use that passed the crash test doggy test.
-
Thanks heaps I'll have a read, we are travelling on the weekend and my OH is panicking now that we haven't got the right restraints for the dogs and how do we restrain 4 in the back seat, but I pointed out that 1 or 2 can go in the back of the wagon behind the cargo barrier.
-
Sorry if there is a thread on this already, I searched but came up with nothing. My mum and my hubby heard today about new laws about restraining dogs in cars, does anyone have details on the ins and outs? I can't seem to find anything recent googling only stuff back from 2011. Edited to add, I just found THIS but it doesn't say how they should be restrained, if they need to be in a harness or a collar clip to the seatbelt if they are on the back seat or if they are still allowed to sit in the front if properly restrained?

I just today made a reindeer costume, I am artistically challenged when it comes to sewing stuff, so I just used some teddy bear material and added a few things and bam one reindeer suit! Ill see if I can add the picture, just gotta grab it off my phone. Here it is, pretty basic but will serve its purpose, the thing around his neck is one of these soft round christmas things and I sewed the bells on a bit of felt. and the thing around the middle is just a doggy xmas scarf from the reject shop.
