  1. You don't need horse clippers. You will end up cutting dogs with them. I have used them several times many years ago. Oster in my opinion, are not a power clipper. Buy wahl. Only about $200 for km2 model. Your blades are probably jamming. A common mistake when people think they are blunt or don't work. Double K and horse clippers make your arms, hands, shoulders ache with prolonged use.
  2. I vaccinate ALL my dogs for KC and never have a reaction like that. Anything green coming out of your dog needs to be seen by the vet. Hope he's better soon.
  3. You need to take him to the vet. Until then, it's not advisable to feed a dog with diarrhoea. You need to starve him 24 to 36hrs. Completely, water only. Then just boiled chicken with a little rice for a few days. But he needs to visit the vet. It's unlikely his feet or coat change has anything to do with his illness.
  4. I second that! I don't know how people live with the smell either but i often make comment about a tightly matted and stinky dog obviously living outside, but usually the client says no, he sleeps on our bed.
  5. This is why you don't know whether to do what a client wants as they are paying, or draw the line at stupid trims coz it's bad for business, ie. Other people looking at the westie in a poodle clip and being horrified. I choose to not do radical trims, like the woman who asked me recently to have her schnauzer in a westie trim. I think it's bad for business as my business relies on 100% word of mouth. I do not advertise or even have signage on my property. When i see a terrible clip in the street, i ask where it was done and then i quickly ask if they asked for it like that. Unfortunately regular joe blow doesn't ask that second question.
  6. I suggest you see a skin specialist. Often a local vet doesn't suggest it.
  7. I also have a client with a min poodle with groin issues! Dog is clipped off with a 7 every time but i have to leave long hair (about 10cm long!) over his balls coz she "doesn't like to see them". I told her the best way to not see them is have him desexed but no, of course she is going to breed with him with her bitch.
  8. Hi. You need to contain her in the wet weather. And no, they don't develop a sense to keep dry! Lol! I have afghans that would happily lay in the rain if i let them.
  9. About 20 years ago, i had a woman with an english springer. She asked for an english springer clip. I did this and as so happens, i grew up with friends who showed springers so was confident as to how they looked. When the woman picked up the dog, she was horrified that i had Clipped off the "ruff" around it's neck. I showed her the picture in the Grooming Guide and also a current picture of a show dog. She still insisted i had ruined the best part of the dog by clipping off the ruff. She was furious, screaming in the salon, threatening to report me to whoever she could. The point of this story is, after all this time, i still remember her venom and it makes me be ridiculously careful when it comes to clients requests for fear of their wrath. So a note saying "not too short, just in proportion" or "i want him clipped but not cut" etc., just doesn't cut it with me.
  10. You thought me saying that you should be grateful that a client cares enough to write a note was bitchy. Right ... No, the first two lines were. And you're doing it again. Why are you so sarcastic toward me and surprise, surprise, full of contempt? As i said, up til post 80 i was helpful and civil to you. This is why you look like a troublemaker as i had not said anything to you to warrant you snapping. It is clear you took the thread to a tense level in post 80. As i've said before. You need to start another thread from the clients perspective. Your "how to groom a wheaten" queries are not relevant to this thread.
  11. Ari, that is exactly what i do. The clip, especially if breed specific is discussed on the phone. I then decide if i do or do not want to do that particular clip. If not, then send them elsewhere. If i do, then i ask them to bring a picture of what they want and any info. On arrival, even after phone screening, sometimes the clipping requirements of the owner cannot be met. I will again send them elsewhere.
  12. Four? In Adelaide? Both mine came from SA. Are the ones you groom Irish coated? one is but the other 3 arent. they are lovely dogs all of them! ps i dont think you were bitchy at all in your question... It wasn't the question, it was post 80.
  13. Ari, I asked what the first thing that would be done when the dog came through the door in terms of grooming. Because if the groomer is unfamiliar with a breed then perhaps, just maybe, the person who owns the dog might know more. I've not met a groomer yet who has even asked me the best way to groom my dogs and some who, on being told the best way have said, 'That's not how we do it here.' Why didn't you clarify your question politely like this before? Would have saved a hell of a lot of time. The sum total of what I wrote was: And then you went off into a rant about your clients. My post was perfectly polite. Yes. That post was polite. It is post 80 i refer to you being nasty. I did not understand your above question clearly or i would have answered it. First line is how do you groom a wheaten. So i told you. You also asked about notes which is why i responded to it. I would have understood better if you asked what i actually talk to the client about when they first walk in. If i failed to answer your question, then you only had to clarify for me, not respond how you did in post 80. Now that i understand your question, do you want me to respond?

  15. Troll!!! :D PMSL. Are you for real?? That's a first. As soon as someone disagrees with you, just call 'em a troll. Too easy, too juvenile Troll
  16. She didn't go out of her way to respond (other than saying she'd do a show clip, which isn't what I asked). She showed a complete contempt for people who provide notes on how to groom their dogs. So what if they provide notes? Just what is the big deal if they do? At least they care. She thinks they're fools. Troll
  17. But not 25 years of respect for clients, the people who actually give gashmir a living. And now, after I've pointed out that he/she is just rude about those clients, she gets all hysterical and calls me a troll. Hmmm. Troll!!!
  18. You think your clients, the people who do nothing more than make a list of items that they'd like you to cover in their dog/s grooming, are fools and liars? Given the first post of yours I responded to, all I was after from you was what you'd do in grooming a wheaten. Needless to say, your responses have revealed that those clients aren't clueless but perhaps their groomer is. As i've said before, but i'll say it again for you, Clients who make lists like "do nails, bath, dry" and they come every two months, been coming for years, YES they ARE FOOLS, if they think i need to be reminded on paper to bath their dog!! LIARS are the ones, who other people have also commented on, bring their small white fluffy, matted to the skin and say "we don't want it short, my daughter brushes it every day. We went away for the weekend and it must have got matted then.". I responded to all of your questions in a polite and friendly manner right up until post #80 when you decided to get bitchy and were obviously here only to cause trouble. I believe you are a troll. .
  19. Why would i deny it? I have great contempt for fools and liars. Speak to me honestly as an equal, i'll return the favor. Speak down to me, suffer the consequences. I don't really understand why you're in this topic considering the heading. You need to start your own thread.
  20. It's a wonder you actually have clients given your contempt of them. Thriving for 25 years! I keep other local groomers business cards by the door, ready to hand to painful people. Can't please everyone and i simply don't need the business.
  21. How would you groom a wheaten terrier? Right from the moment the dog is brought in, what do you do? Because same as last time doesn't work for me. I was just meaning if the clip IS the same as last time, i don't need a note from the client itemising nails, ears, bath, dry, etc. I would groom a wheaten however you wanted it done, within reason. If you didn't know, (and lots of people with pure breeds don't know how they should look), then i would use a show dog as an example and follow the guidelines set out in the All Breeds Grooming Guide. That said, it's all kinda hypothetical for me as for 5 years now i have limited my clientel to small breeds only. Nothing bigger than a cav!
  22. I only do small dogs now, but if i were to do a standard, i would charge min $80.
