phin my 14mth old english setter is desexed and still dosen't cock his leg.

Hi all, I went to the show yesterday and spoke to my breeder and the other English Setter people. There was a really nice lady who i talked to that took me around the stands that sold grooming tools and showed me which ones would be suitable for a setter. I ended up buying a comb with fine and medium spaced teeth. With the brushes, i am ordering one wholesale through my breeder as it will work out cheaper. He also told me which brush would actually work on a setter. As some bristles were so dense they wouldn't go through the coat I am getting one with pins that are smooth so they won't hurt his skin and will actually travel through his feathers (if that makes sense!). i have a junior RAS membership which means i can enter as many times as i like. But i will be going this thursday (15) as the English Setters are showing and Phin's breeder will be there and i will be there on the last day. It depends really, i live in moonee ponds and it is about a 5min drive/10 min train ride to the showgrounds and I have school holidays now!

thanks for that Miranda, also wondering what order should i be grooming him in (if that makes sense) eg. slicker brush first then bristle brush all over? whats the best place to buy good grooming tools, the ones we have at the moment are starting to die (a bit chewed) in melbourne? :D

i have a 13mth old english setter as a pet, should i clip his feathers for summer as we will be at the beach lots and they will probably get sandy and matted. also, he gets excited whenever i brush him and tries to eat the brush/comb. what techniques does everyone use when grooming long-coated dogs, particularly setters? TIA!

lol, thanks lablover! took phin to the park on the weekend. and there we have it, a non-stop 20 minute chase of some swallows. they like to tease those birds!! henrynchlo im going into the city tomorrow so will drop past angus and robertson to have alook for the book.

good idea divine angel!!! the trainer at our puppy schoools dog died from eating wine castings,-- leftovers from winemaking. so yes grapes are very toxic and fatal when eaten in such large ammounts.

yeah thats what i thought with my older dog, the border collie we used to go to the northern obedience dog club at aberfeldie (sp). but we didnt stay there for too long because they didnt give me much attention or were very helpful. mainly because i was the only kid there and the class was rather large. i willl check out keilor obedience club. are you in melbourne? if so whereabouts, if you dont mind me asking

yeah, that was one of my concerns, i wouldn't want to be using any of these unless i knew the right way. so is keilor obedience dog club reccomended?? our vet told us about preston obedience i think, have u heard of them.??
