Do you have a time out area? I found that discouraging my working breed from nipping and jumping by quietly picking her up and putting her in the laundry when she was naughty for 5 minutes made a big difference. It doesn't matter where, it just needs to be safe and not somewhere you want her to like (so not her bed)

Thanks Moggy for your response, just needed to catch up I gues

Have you tried putting a little pineapple juice in her dinner?

Is Apple Ok As A Treat?
melbournecritters replied to melbournecritters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We are getting a new pup in two or three weeks. Originally I wanted to get another adult dog but we decided to get a pup so we could raise her with the bunny too, an adult dog would have been much more difficult to retrain and we didn't want to have to break up such a good friendship -
If food treats don't walk, carry her favorite toy ith you instead to keep her attention.

I think you have it all worked out already She probably is nearly fully grown so she may not need so much. I would do the 15min take away food thing, it won't be long until she is back on track. Of course be sure there are no health reasons for her lack of appetite.

Is Apple Ok As A Treat?

Good to know, I remove seeds as they have a chemical in them which I know isn't good so I am used to removing them for my birds. Good to know she and her rabbit mate can still enjoy their evening snack infront of the tv -
My kelpie loves apple. In the evenings she and the rabbit come inside and they each like a bit of apple as a treat (as weird as it sounds they are best friends and hang out together all day). If I don't give some to the dog she will try and sneak over and steal the rabbits when he isn't looking. Is this OK for her? I have tried giving her other things instead but she really wants the apple

Ugh ... Freaky Extra Toe!

She'd probably get around faster with a wheel, like runners with wheels that kids use through the shopping centre at high speed  -
The pineapple was also recommended by my vet :D It changes the taste to very bitter apparently (much like the bitter apple that you get to spray on things you don't want them to chew).

Puppy Barking At Neighbours
melbournecritters replied to Jigsaw's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Would the neighbours be willing to be a little involved for the sake of long term peace. If she knows the command to stop barking or be quiet you could ask them to give the command over the fence and then reward her for being quiet. If it is an issue of her being unsure of them this might solve that problem at the same time. -
No worries, I just ran it past the criteria on that site and it got pretty good marks too, much better than the old bag of Purina One I have sitting in the cupboard. It has no colours or flavours, 100% au naturale and added omegas, kelp, etc too, also good for dogs with mild allergies as it is low in wheat products.

Just had another thought. My mum just got one for her dog which I think is Advance and when you put a little water onto it the outer part of it turns to gravy, even her very fussy dog likes it

You could try Coprice, I have always found it to be great and my dogs love it. Evene a friends dog that wouldn't eat dry food ate it. Depending onwhere you are in Melbourne you could get a 'sample' off me to try as it only comes in 20kg bags (but they only cost about $26 though)

A short coated breed should dry pretty quickly in a warm room, mine is dry in about 30 mins as long as I dry her well with a couple of towels.

In winter my mum puts her dogs bed over the ducted heating or she lies in front of the portable heater and I sit mine under the ducted heating(mine are in the ceiling) The DIY one at the car wash has a dryer at mine too.
-
I do mine in the shower being careful to not get water in her ears of course Alot of DIY car wash places are now installing hydrobaths and my local groomer does let people DIY there dog hydrobath for about $18
