  1. I feel the same - to me, a problem isn't "cured" unless the root of the problem has been addressed. If you have a dog displaying aggression for whatever reason and you address the agression to a point where the dog is displaying other signs of stress in the same situation, while you may have started addressing the problem, it's not until the dog is completely comfortable in that situation that the problem is "cured".
  2. It's still a brilliant shot Ruthless - the look on Chopper's face is priceless! I don't like the way one of my photos looks on the website. My cat's whiskas look horrible on the practically black shot and all the detail is gone from it. Next year I'll have to remember to up the contrast before I submit shots! ETA: Gah!! I just looked at my bokeh shot: http://www1.canon.com.au/worldofeos/Photo5...o.aspx?id=14129 - goodbye star details. My closeup shot is worse but wasn't anything special to start off with so I'm not crushed about that.
  3. Damn Ravyk - you and I have the same idea for splat!! Mine is all done on white though with red paint and doesn't have all the cool swirls in the water.
  4. Gah! Birds are so hard to shoot when they're flying - you did really well for not having any preparation! I've only ever managed to get two flying bird shots i like and they're both of seagulls
  5. I really can't decide - i can't upload them for photo 5 anyway at the moment so I have some time to see which one i like better anyway. Hopefully i'll actually be able to enter one of them but since the website isn't working and there's noone to let me know whether i can or can't upload them, i'll have to wait and see.
  6. Here are mine so far: Practically black: Hundreds and thousands: Bokeh: Portrait: I had an idea for "splat" but I really can't be bothered - i don't think the idea is good enough!
  7. Lol - I'm hating the 450d on 800 iso. Some of the photos are disgustingly grainy. My lenses don't help either. I love your labour photos! I just finished watching the youtube slide show. Just gorgeous!
  8. I just took the portrait photo for the photo5 competition today so I'll add it here: I call it "self-portrait" - i have paperwork floating all around my house at the moment and everytime i sit down to do it, I want to fall asleep (probably because i'm doing long hours at the office at the moment!). Camera: Canon EOS 450D Exposure: 1/6 Aperture: f/4.0 Focal Length: 49 mm ISO Speed: 800 Flash: Off I can't decide which one I like better All the exif is the same for this shot but the focal length has changed to 34mm
  9. Their website is running insanely slow - I've got a photo for everything but "splat". I just couldn't think of anything creative to do. What did everyone else end up entering? I'm uploading mine to flickr at the moment.
  10. Damn - now the site isn't working for me either. I thought it might at 3.30am but it looks like the servers are shot.
  11. I can't give you a real idea of how much an adult mallie weighs (Zero's a sibe and is 59cms and at his ideal weight, is 26kgs but he's a solid boy) but most spitz breeds need less food than other breeds because they're bred to work for a long time on minimal food. Zero only gets a cup of reduced fat kibble a day, raw meaty bones every couple of days and training treats and that's enough for him to maintain his weight in summer. In winter, I have to pull his food back because he gains weight on that diet. Anytime i give him tinned wet food (only when he's ill and the vet is trying to get him to eat), he puts on weight like crazy.
  12. I change mine every 2 days - i add some ACV to it too. Zero's only comes out on hot days though. He's not a water kind of dog unless it's hot. It's great for him because he knows if i get his leash out on a hot day, we're going for a walk but he has to go and get wet first. Usually he dives in head first so he's completely drenched before we go for his walk.
  13. Does she sparkle when she goes out in the sun?
  14. I haven't seen anything in the rules about it Nik but if you want to enter it anyway, just clear the exif data on the photo. It's not hard to do in photoshop.
  15. I have a 450d and I'm hoping to upgrade to the new 7d at some point next year. It's a great camera learn on and the twin lens kit gives you a big range of focal lengths to work with. I am not a huge fan of the lenses that come with it but for the price, they're pretty decent. It's taken nearly a year to work out their limitations and that's using them nearly everyday. Note that in australia, they're referred to as the EOS 450D and 1000D - the Rebel XSI (and rebel XS) is the american release. it's no different but i've been in a store before where the sales person and a customer were in a fight because the sales person had no idea what rebel referred to - they kept saying "it's not a rebel, it's a canon" The twin lens kit is definitely worth it - as is the 450d.
  16. I use jackpots with Zero occasionally, especially when we're working on something we're having problems with that week. This week it's stay and turning in heel. It just increases his motivation to keep up with me when he's working and makes it more likely he'll give me the behaviour I want. It seems to really work for him. I don't give it to him everytime but the second he gets it for the first time (for example, the first time he stayed for 30 seconds), i will jackpot that and then jackpot it a few more times before lessening the quantity. After that, he only gets jackpotted occasionally for the same behaviour, but i might only ask him to sit and stay for 10 seconds before i return to him and jackpot that so he never knows when he'll get a jackpot and when he won't. I used the same technique when I was training his dumbell retrieval and he just loves retrieving now. He doesn't seem to understand the behaviour I want him to perform any faster but he does have a whole lot more motivation to perform it when he does get it.
  17. I ended up buying Zero both joint guard and sasha's blend so I'll see how he goes - i don't know how much damage he has to his joints but we're just waiting for the vet i trust to have a saturday appointment. It would be nice to be able to get him done as soon as possible but i can't get him into the vet at an early enough time because of work at the moment so i'm going to have to wait.
  18. You can get the joint guard treats from vet n pet direct kissindra - I've bought a whole lot of things off them in the last year or so and they've always been great!
  19. I'll take 2 thanks! It's seriously drool worthy... but hey, what do you expect from canon
  20. What a gorgeous dog - beautiful photos Ruth!
  21. Here you go Mick, I didn't do a huge amount to it but I hope you like it anyway:
  22. Thanks for the link Puggy! I wish I'd seen it sooner! Zero's supplements are already on their way!
  23. Zero likes fishy things so I think I'll try him on Sasha's Blend and see how he goes. If he doesn't like it, I'll switch him over to Joint Guard. I'd rather get the green lipped mussel into him so hopefully he'll enjoy a Sasha's Blend sauce every day
  24. What happened to Asher?!? I must've missed something! Sending lots of healing husky hugs from Zero and I! Do you find Sasha's blend easy to use? Zero's on artemis and RMBs at the moment with a little bit of fish and other things thrown in so I'm not sure how we'll get a powder into him but I'm assuming I could just put it in with his fish. I'm also contemplating the joint guard treats - it'll be easy to get Zero to swallow them!
  25. Hey everyone, I'm a little worried about the effects of Zero being overweight for so long (he was 43kgs when I got him and now sits at 28 though I'm dropping him back to 26) and want to put him on some supplements to help him and have been recommended both Sasha's Blend and Joint Guard. I'm not sure of the difference between the two - which one should I get or would it be beneficial to put him on both? Thanks!
