  1. My 3 favourite dog photos: Terranik's Jedi My 3 non-dog photos: Not so much for the quality but because it makes me really happy everytime I see it (it's the drummer from green day playing a song on the guitar - he's my favourite musician of all time and it was the first time I had seen him play anything other than the drums at the many many green day shows I've been to - the fact that he's playing it on the lead singer's BJ guitar just makes it 100 times cooler ). This was taken on my point and shoot (a canon ixus 80is) but I wish I had been able to take the slr. A shot taken to prove a point that it's not about the equipment, it's about the photographer. My brother and I had a challenge going where we had to take a photo (with my SLR, both using the same lens) of a seagull and nail it in one shot, this was mine (I should note that I won - Ryan's shot looked like a floating plastic bag over a carpark and unless you zoom in, you can't tell it's a bird ): A lucky shot at the zoo - the peacock put it's tail down about half a second after I took it.
  2. I admit I was a heavy user of the vignette when I first got light room - the novelty has worn off now though so I tend not to use it unless I really want to draw the eye. I will eventually have a play around with this shot to blur the background but without the vignette I thought the background was kind of overpowering. I should really get onto fixing it. Here the vignette is more subtle but I wasn't a huge fan of the very plain background.
  3. Great shots persephone!! What an interesting creature.
  4. Well there's your problem right there - you used the dreaded N word. Happy birthday Miss Lacy!!!
  5. Zero has cloudiness in both his eyes from being abused (the specialist thinks it was caused by blunt force trauma to the face) but they're the most expressive part of him and I think they're gorgeous: The lighter section of Zero's eye in this shot is the trauma to his right eye - it looks a little like the start of cataracts but since he had them at 2.5 years old when I got him and they haven't changed since we're hoping they won't spread and have an effect like cataracts. His left eye is also effected but I've never been able to get a shot of it. You can see them pretty easily but the light makes it a lot easier. Prey drive eyes (complete with snow-nose) Smiling eyes Serious eyes (if you look closely, you can see me in the reflection) ETA: This was a little terrier mix named Tilly that we met when we were shooting the promo for crufts. Tilly just wanted to sit on her leather foot rest and sleep but kept getting jumped on by the other dogs. Her eyes was so expressive you could just see her rolling them when she had had enough.
  6. That's not a kitty - that's a husky-cat!
  7. Sorry Huski, I didnt see this. I am in the process of getting my sh!te together so people can commission me.... I actually bought a domain name today.... I will flick you a PM shortly. I want to encourage more people with their pets then just pets my themselves. You might be ideal for my little project. :D Yay!!! I can't wait to see your shots of Bec's dogs!
  8. Pffft poocow!! Your photos are great!!! I love the ones of Ness, Tilba and Carter!
  9. If you want them I'll put them on a CD and bring it tomorrow night - the lighting was good last night. I'm really happy with the way the photos turned out, though I would have liked to have got a shot of Kenzie going over the jump. Oh well, maybe tomorrow night!
  10. See signature - definitely silly christmas pics! Kyra is gorgeous!!! I just want to cuddle her! And the lil dude looks pretty stylin' in the christmas bling!
  11. Great shots JS! You look like you've adjusted to the 50mm's differences really well! I still end up with a bunch of photos where nothing is in focus because I'm not used to it (it's been a while since i had my 1.8 and the 1.4 is only a couple of weeks old). Here's some new shots from me: Kenzie and Ness Kenzie Jedi McBucket Face Spot the imposter: Muffincav's Muffin Poocow's Morgan
  12. Lol - when people make a comment about me training Zero, I do the same thing that I do when they tell me that my "wolf" is a killing machine or that sibes can't be trained. Pull a "are you f***ing serious?" face at them and ignore. Rewards shouldn't ever be phased out of training and I'm not surprised her dog wouldn't work for her if that's how she sees it. Sounds like she just wanted a rise out of you - a lot of people have a "my dog is better than yours" attitude and just need to put you down for their own ego. She was probably just stroking her ego by making comments about Daisy.
  13. Not a problem!! He's a not so little man now - I'll be taking my camera tomorrow night to training so hopefully i can get some more photos then of him in his costume! I think Morgan might think Zero is a little bit special but that's okay, he thinks she's a little bit special too
  14. My photos are up now too in the thread Nik started.
  15. I saw a "speagle" today at the pets paradise at parramatta (it's right next to the escalators and the sign was unmissable) - apparently that's what they're calling beagle x cocker spaniel x mini poodle now. and
  16. A few (okay, a lot) from yesterday: I don't think Morgan likes that I tethered Zero...
  17. I have to agree - why not start with a base model and then work your way up? I've had my 450d for about 18 months and it's only now that I'm really feeling the need to upgrade the body because I'm not a fan of the 50mm 1.4 on the 450d with it's inability to go above 1/4000. At the moment I'm considering either the 50d or the 7d. There's no point in me even looking at the 5d mkII because I know i wouldn't be able to do it justice with my ability or the lenses I own (2 of them are just the kit lenses). If you have foxtel and ever have a look at the lifestyle you channel, some of the stuff on that was shot with a 5d mark II (the IDs played before the start of a show that come up with "it's great to be you") - the HD video on it is surprisingly good, even in low light. There were a few problems converting what was shot over to PAL from the NTSC the 5d shoots in (the change in the frame rate from 29.97 frames per second to 24 frames per second meant that some of the footage would jerk between frames) but the end product is really nice. It would be interesting to see if you're able to shoot in PAL on it or if it only does NTSC.
  18. That's muffincav's Muffin. Great shots Nik - I'm lazy and haven't finished editing my shots yet. It's definitely time for a change of camera body. The 450d just didn't cut it yesterday. I'm not happy with 1/4000 of a second limit. I would have rather have been shooting on 1/8000 or higher.
  19. Ruffwear harnesses are the best I've found - they are a little pricey but definitely worth it. They're easy to get on if your dog knows shake. It goes on over the head and then you tell your dog to shake and put it's paw (it's the left one if you're looking at the dog) over one of the straps, then it just clips up. I bought Zero the palisades pack which is a backpack as well as a harness, the packs just unclip if you want it to be a harness. Here's Zero in his: Front on (with packs on) Side on (with packs on) Side on (with packs off) - you can see where it clips underneath him in this: ETA: I should add that Zero doesn't have a problem toileting in his harness - the strap doesn't sit far enough back for it to be a problem. Oh and the handle on the top of it is brilliant - dogs should come with an inbuilt harness!
  20. Awwww - that's a great idea ripley!! Your parrot is gorgeous! *makes mental note to see what her cockatiels do if placed in the christmas tree*
