  1. I wouldn't either if I had a 1D!! I'm in the same boat at the moment Equiart - I have a 450d but I need to upgrade it. I am looking at the 7d or the 5dMkii. Which lenses are you looking at?
  2. Thanks kja. I will be learning to use the camera as I go but I do want to be able to take movement shots later. Showjumpers. race horses and dogs on the move so would I need a fast version?Harvey Norman have a package to go with the camera/lens and it includes a lens filter and a Sandisc Extreme memory card 4G. The speed the object you're shooting doesn't matter when it comes to the card. It only comes into play when you're talking about how fast you are going to write to the card. For example - if you're shooting show jumping and you only want to try and take 1 shot when the horse is up over the jump, having a slow card won't really be a problem, you can work around that but when you're wanting to take multiple photos (on continuous shooting) as fast as you can as the horse jumps (lets say, 10 shots from the start of the jump to the finish) you will need a fast card to be able to store all of those shots as they're taken. I have different cards for different purposes - I have cheap SD cards for portraiture and then the XD cards for when i want to take action shots because I want to be able to use continuous shooting.
  3. I've been talking to breeders about my next dog for about a year and it won't happen for a while - hopefully within the next year though. In that time, I've learnt who I trust, who to avoid and the type of dog I can expect out of different litters. I'm really excited but now that contact has been made and the decision to go with a certain person made, I'm impatient!!
  4. Happy birthday for monday Ivan!! And you think Chopper is the photogenic one Ruth - look at Ivan! He's gorgeous!!!
  5. She's very cute! My guess would be BC too but I'm no expert! We'll definitely need more pics as she grows!
  6. *drool* 70-200mm 2.8 IS? That's cheating though - you have an extender and hood on it!
  7. Hahahaha - I'm so insanely guilty of nearly all of those things! That being said, when I am going to heavily PP a photo, I shoot it with that intention. I rarely PP a photo I haven't shot with the intention of making it something else in photoshop!
  8. Ditto! Hopefully I'll be adding to the pack either towards the end of this year or early next year and I couldn't have done it without Steve! I'm able to take Zero to the dog beach, DOL meets, obedience training and shows without a problem and he now plays with other dogs which I could never have imagined possible!! The best part though is that he's happier in everyday life and doesn't watch over his shoulder all the time. He can actually relax when we're walking and I can let him off leash at training and trust that he won't get distracted by another dog and run off to attack them. I'm still eyeing off the orbee ball on a rope.... i really shouldn't but Zero does love to play tug....
  9. This is Zero all over: Chilled out, cheeky and absolutely gorgeous!
  10. Lol - Zero will be 6 in July and even though I never had him has a puppy, he still gets called "pup" and "puppy" all the time!
  11. You've always got to remember that they are a spitz breed - yes, they will learn fast and they're spunky little dogs but at times you will have the equivalent of them giving you the finger! That being said, I've seen a lot of videos of them competing in all kinds of dog sports so if that's what you want, they're definitely capable!
  12. Happy birthday Barkly!! I can't believe he's two already Luke!!
  13. I'll have to see what I can do - My photo from yesterday definitely wasn't done with a crop in mind but if I have time, today's will be. I will probably be without a computer at home for the next couple of days so you might get innundated when I get my computer back (yay for new software!).
  14. It's a challenge at the moment even getting the camera out at the moment. There needs to be more hours in the day. Ditto! I had such great ideas for some of the february photos and didn't have time to do them because I've been at work so much! Great shot SBT!
  15. Ooooo - I haven't done anything to do with cropping before. I mean, not intentionally anyway! I don't think I'll get one for every day of this month but a few of my project 365 things will be cropped this month.
  16. Oh great. Now I'm looking at things Zero really doesn't need. I have a feeling he'll be getting a orbee ball an a rope in the next few days...
  17. 8/52 Zero learnt a new verbal cue today - "sit up". I think I'm just encouraging him to think he's people. I love the self portraits Huga! I finally managed to get one I liked last week of Z and I was sooooo happy!
  18. I finished it!!! Here's what you guys haven't seen yet: Project 365: Day 53 "wild" (one of the optional ones wolfsong and I are doing) - when Mow gets this look on his face, I know I'm about to get pounced on! Project 365: Day 54 "choke" - on the day I took this, I couldn't do anything right with the camera!! Even Zero choked majorly with his facial expressions Project 365: Day 55 "upside down" - I was lying on my back when I took this Project 365: Day 56 "Smile" - there's a backstory to this one but essentially this lantern really makes me happy. I thought I'd lost it! Project 365: Day 57 "horror" (another optional) - not too scary in itself but when you get to work at 8am and get home at 11.30pm, you can pretty much guarantee it's been a horror kind of day! Project 365: Day 58 "epic" (another optional) Project 365: Day 59 "stamp" - my plants got stamped on... again
  19. Thanks Steve! I was going to get an early night tonight. There goes that idea!
  20. I really like what you've done! Funnily, that editing took it back towards where it was warmth-wise (off camera). I cooled it off when I saw the expression on her face I will have to see what the happens if I make it look more dramatic now! I would love to give her one with her looking soft and fairytale like and then one with her looking cold and harsh! The first was taken in next to no light with my car headlights and a speedlite bounced off a red brick wall, the second was taken in my kitchen with the speedlite bouncing off my roof so they were both terrible lighting conditions but I'm happy with it!
  21. That's awesome! My 450d is so very very grainey at 1600 so I always shoot on a low ISO. I'm pretty sure it's me and not the camera so it's definitely something to think about! I'm definitely going to take that shot further Ashanali but I'm really not sure how to go about it - my photoshop skills are sadly lacking. I'll have another play with it on the weekend - time for some research I think! I took this one as well but instead of looking soft, I think she looks kind of evil which is totally not my friend! I really want to take this one further too but again, I'm not sure what to do with it! And I think I'm in love with your boudoir photo - it's sexy without showing anything. Love it!
  22. SIGMA APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM *drool*
  23. I love it! It's very emotive. I think it'll mean something completely different to everyone. I know what you mean about not being able to judge photos outside of your comfort zone - I stepped out of my comfort zone this week too and branched into taking portraits of people in character. I think I'm happy with the result but I never know what people will say about portraits. Sometimes when I look at a photo of a friend I love the way they look but they don't!
